“Do you mind if I ask you about your relationship with your wife?”
Mr. Williams smiled. “Not at all. In fact, I’ll appreciate that. Beth is my favorite subject in any conversations.”
Dion chuckled. “I’m sure she is.”
Mr. Williams sighed softly. “Beth and I first met each other forty-five years ago outside the post office.”
Dion was surprised to hear that. “The post office?”
Mr. Williams laughed a little. “A young man like you probably hasn’t stepped into a post office in a really long time now. In these days and age, you have e-mails, Facebook, and the internet, and all those fancy gadgets. Back then, people from my generation had to go to the post office to deliver their letters, and it might take days, weeks, or even months for some of them to reach the recipients, depending on the distance.”
Dion snickered. “I bet.”
Mr. Williams shut his eyes for a moment, possibly reminiscing about the distant past. When he opened them, a lone tear streamed down his cheek.
