The Forest Guardians

The Forest Guardians are not who you think they are. They are the protectors of the Worlds inside the books(pun!) and of Imagination. Imagination appears everywhere and is almost like an omnipotent being. However, one opposing force threatens the annilation of the whole Guardians: Dark Shadow who wants to engulf Imagination for power. With only Mike and Omen, the last few Guardians to survive, will they be able to rally up enough allies before the war that Dark Shadow will bring upon the Worlds?

26. Chapter 11

At Dark Shadow's Castle

(Note! This is NOT Omen's POV)

"You nearly botched our plan."

Damon Windsor flinched at Dark Shadow's words.

He was back in DS's castle. Even though he was comfortably seated on the armchair, he couldn't feel the comfort from it because he was under his piercing gaze.

"It wasn't my…"

Damon halted at DS's raised hand.

Immediately, he clamped his mouth shut. If DS wanted him to be quiet, he had to be quiet. Ally or not, the consequences of offending him would be dire.

"Nevertheless, a job well done."

Dark Shadow smiled.

Damon felt a cold chill from it.

It should have been the other way... Damon thought glumly. How could a rogue Guardian scare the former King of the demons?

Unfortunately, once Damon Windsor signed a deal with Dark Shadow, he could no longer extricate himself from it anymore. It didn't matter to him then but it won't matter now.

As long as this unfair world, universe or whatever dies away, his revenge will be complete.

Once that was done, he could finally join her.

"You can go now."

Dark Shadow chuckled ominously as he watched the demon slinked away to the darkness.

"Just a hiccup. But very soon, I will get my goal in the end. Am I right, Countess?"

A tall curvy woman with waist length curly fiery hair stepped out from the shadows.

Her black satin skin-tight dress hugged her figure. There was a slit at the side, exposing one of her snowy white legs. While her sleeves covered her arms, the tailors used an elaborate lace with the design of thorny roses twisting and curling around her arms. As she moved, her dress flowed naturally around her.

From a distance, one would be enchanted by her seemingly passionate red eyes. Yet, her cold but melancholy expression with the naturally flowing black dress would strike a sense of premonition to those who saw her, especially men.

However, Dark Shadow was a special case.

How can a madman feel fear when he was already as mad as the Hatter in Alice in the Wonderland?

"Of course."

She purred softly, her voice like an alluring allusion, yet neither real nor fake.

"Countess," Dark Shadow chuckled. There was an unknown gleam in his eyes. "Your spells don't work on me."

"It doesn't matter…"

Countess simpered.

The seductress prowled towards him, holding onto his gaze while her heels clacked against the marble floor.

"For so long…"

Wrapping her arms around his neck, blowing her breath down his neck and ears that promised of sinful carnal desires.

"… We have been planning for that moment."

Her exposed leg was slowly and smoothly rubbing the back of one of his legs.

"Can you guarantee that we will have our revenge?"

As Dark Shadow was a head taller than her, she had to look up. The madman looked down at her with an expression that made the seductress vampire flinched and retreated a step. She had to suppress her shudder when his ice-cold fingers caressed her cheek softly.

It wasn't his actions that made her fear him.

It was both his soft tender strokes and the unmistakable sadistic glint in his eyes.

"We will have our revenge soon, my dear."

Omen's POV

"You found it."

The tone of mystery girl's voice was in disbelief.

"You actually found it."

The girl took advantage to bring me into the white space when I entered the portal to return to the Library. Now, she was ogling at the beaded goldfish in my hands. Her hands posed in the air, as though she was afraid of touching it. I found her actions funny.

"Was this… actually something hard to find?"

She shrugged.

Without a moment to lose, she plucked it off my hand and scrutinised it.

Well, that was rude.

Then the girl shook her head in disappointment.

"It is not this one."

I gasped in disbelief.

If it was not this one, then where can I find the one that she wants?

"There is nothing inside. Just a trinket."

She confirmed before she threw it back at me. In alarm, I quickly caught it in the air before it suffered irreversible damage. After all, Mia gave it to me. Turning back to reprimand her, I stopped when I saw her sitting down cross-legged, sighing heavily. Her expression was of deep worry and of unspoken troubles.

"Is it really that the only one that can recover your memories?"

The girl looked up at me, giving me a 'duh' look.

"Yes."

I frowned.

I simply couldn't comprehend the meaning behind her persistence in finding an object. Besides, her eyes weren't telling the truth. There must be more objects that could recover her memories. Yet, she wanted the beaded goldfish.

Then, the girl shook her head dejectedly.

"When you find the final Alice letter, I will find you."

I raised my hand to grab her, to have her clarify. But when my eyes blinked again, I was standing on the welcome mat of the Library. My hands reached out awkwardly until there was an awkward cough beside me.

Turning my body around, it was Mike.

This chapter is confusing, I know. I can't think of anything to smooth over the scenes. I did my best but unless I think of how I can do it better, I will just leave this chapter here.
