"The Dreamer's Forest" is a captivating urban fantasy novel that follows the extraordinary journey of Emily, a seemingly ordinary 27-year-old lady whose life is forever changed by a mysterious necklace and recurring dreams of a enchanted forest. Emily's mundane existence in the city is shattered when she begins receiving cryptic text messages and glimpsing a handsome stranger from her dreams in the waking world. As the line between reality and fantasy blurs, Emily discovers that she is a Dreamwalker – a rare individual with the power to traverse between realms. Suddenly thrust into the magical world of the Veil, Emily meets Aiden, the man from her dreams, who becomes her guide and protector. Together, they must flee from the nightmarish Shadowkin and seek refuge in the Sanctuary, a haven for magical beings. Here, Emily learns of an ancient prophecy that speaks of a Dreamwalker destined to save both the Veil and the human world from an encroaching darkness. As Emily grapples with her newfound abilities and the weight of her destiny, she must navigate the treacherous politics of the Sanctuary, master her powers, and uncover the secrets of her own mysterious heritage. All the while, her connection with Aiden deepens, adding a layer of romance to her perilous adventure. With the forces of darkness growing stronger and threatening both realms, Emily embarks on a quest through various magical worlds, gathering allies and artifacts crucial to fulfilling the prophecy. She faces betrayal, loss, and increasingly dangerous foes, pushing her to the limits of her newfound powers and forcing her to confront her own doubts and fears. As the final battle approaches, Emily must make heart-wrenching choices that will determine the fate of both worlds. With her loyal friends from the human world now drawn into the conflict, the stakes have never been higher. "The Dreamer's Forest" is a spellbinding tale of self-discovery, courage, and the power of dreams. It weaves together elements of contemporary urban life with a rich, immersive fantasy world, creating a story that is both relatable and wonderfully escapist. Emily's transformation from an ordinary young woman to a powerful Dreamwalker forms the emotional core of this thrilling adventure, which will leave readers questioning the nature of reality and the untapped potential that lies within their own dreams.

Chapter 1Whispers from the Dream Forest

The young lady stirred in her sleep, her long chestnut hair fanned out across the pillow. Her delicate features were relaxed, a small smile playing on her lips as she dreamed. She wore a simple white nightgown that contrasted with her sun-kissed skin.

In her dream, she found herself in a mystical forest. Towering trees with silvery bark reached towards a canopy of emerald leaves, dappled sunlight filtering through to create shifting patterns on the mossy ground. Flowers in every hue imaginable dotted the landscape, their sweet fragrance filling the air. Despite the lush vegetation, there was an eerie absence of wildlife - no birdsong, no rustling of small creatures in the underbrush. The forest was beautiful but unnaturally still and silent.

She wasn't alone in this enchanted place. A man stood before her, his presence both familiar and thrilling. He was tall and powerfully built, with broad shoulders and defined muscles visible on his bare chest. His skin was bronzed, as if kissed by the sun. Dark, wavy hair fell across his forehead, partially obscuring eyes that seemed to shift between deep blue and stormy gray. A strong jaw and high cheekbones gave him a rugged handsomeness that took her breath away.

The man reached out, gently caressing her cheek with calloused fingers. She leaned into his touch, her heart racing. He drew her close, one arm encircling her waist as his other hand tangled in her hair. She gazed up at him, lost in the intensity of his gaze. Slowly, he lowered his head, his lips mere inches from hers...

HONK! HONK!

The harsh sound of a car horn shattered the dream, jolting the young lady awake. She sat up with a start, her heart pounding for an entirely different reason now. Disoriented, she blinked rapidly, trying to clear the lingering images from her mind.

"Emily!" a voice called from outside, growing louder as it approached. "I hope you're dressed already, we're getting late!"

Emily. That was her name. The realization helped ground her in reality, chasing away the last wisps of the dream. She glanced at the clock on her nightstand and groaned. How had she overslept?

Throwing back the covers, Emily swung her legs over the side of the bed and stood. She padded across the hardwood floor to the window, pushing aside the gauzy curtains to peer outside. The early morning sun was just beginning to paint the sky in shades of pink and gold, promising a beautiful day ahead.

Emily's apartment was small but cozy, filled with an eclectic mix of vintage and modern pieces. The open floor plan combined living room, kitchenette, and sleeping area into one space. Bookshelves lined one wall, crammed with well-loved paperbacks and trinkets collected from her travels. A small desk tucked into a corner held her laptop and a stack of papers - remnants of late-night work sessions. Potted plants occupied every available surface, bringing life and a touch of nature to the urban dwelling.

Realizing she was still in her nightgown, Emily hurried to the bathroom and freshened up. In a flash, she rushed out and opened her closet. She quickly selected a flowing sundress in a vibrant teal that complemented her eyes. She rushed into the bathroom, brushed her teeth and freshened up, all in a flash. She stepped out of the bathroom and slipped her dress on, ran a brush through her hair and applied a touch of mascara and lip gloss. No time for anything more elaborate.

A rapid knock at the door made her jump. "Coming!" she called out, grabbing a pair of sandals and her purse as she crossed to the entrance.

Emily opened the door to reveal a young lady with short, spiky blonde hair and a mischievous grin. "Sandy! Come on in," Emily said, stepping back to allow her friend entry.

Sandy bounced into the apartment, her energy palpable. "Girl, I thought you'd be ready by now! We're going to be so late." She was dressed in ripped jeans and a band t-shirt, her multiple earrings glinting in the morning light.

"I know, I know," Emily sighed, fastening her sandals. "I overslept. I was having the strangest dream..."

Sandy's eyebrows shot up with interest. "Ooh, do tell! Was it that mystery man again?"

Emily felt a blush creeping up her cheeks. "Maybe," she admitted. "It was so vivid this time. We were in this incredible forest, and he was about to kiss me when your horn woke me up."

"Sorry not sorry," Sandy laughed. "As much as I'd love to hear all the juicy details, we really do need to get going. The others are waiting for us at the cafe."

Emily nodded, grabbing her keys. "Right, of course. Let's go."

As they left the apartment and headed down the stairs, Sandy couldn't resist probing further. "So, this dream guy of yours... any idea who he might be? Someone from your past? Or maybe a glimpse of your future Prince Charming?"

Emily shook her head, a small frown creasing her brow. "That's the weird thing. He feels so familiar, like I've known him forever. But I can't place him. I've never met anyone who looks like that in real life."

They emerged onto the bustling city street, the morning rush hour in full swing. Cars honked, people hurried past with coffee cups in hand, and the smell of fresh bread wafted from a nearby bakery.

"Maybe it's your subconscious telling you to get out there and meet some new people," Sandy suggested as they weaved through the crowd. "When was the last time you went on a date, anyway?"

Emily rolled her eyes. "You know I've been busy with work. I don't have time for dating right now."

"Uh-huh," Sandy said, unconvinced. "Keep telling yourself that, hon. But if your dreams are any indication, your heart might be saying something different."

They reached Sandy's car, a beat-up Volkswagen Beetle painted a garish shade of orange. As they climbed in, Emily couldn't shake the lingering feeling of the dream. The forest, the mysterious man - it had all felt so real. More real than her waking life, in some ways.

Sandy started the engine, the radio blaring to life with an upbeat pop song. As they pulled into traffic, Emily found her thoughts drifting back to the dream. There was something about that forest, something important she felt she was missing...

"Earth to Emily!" Sandy's voice cut through her reverie. "Where'd you go just now?"

Emily blinked, realizing she had zoned out. "Sorry, I was just thinking about the dream again. There was something off about that forest. It was beautiful, but... empty. No animals, no birds. Just silence."

Sandy shot her a concerned look. "That's a bit creepy. You sure it wasn't a nightmare?"

"No, it didn't feel scary," Emily said slowly, trying to articulate the sensation. "Just... strange. Like I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be, or hadn't been invited to yet."

"Hmm," Sandy mused. "Maybe it's symbolic or something. Like, the empty forest represents some part of your life that's beautiful but unfulfilled? And dream guy is the missing piece?"

Emily laughed, but it sounded forced even to her own ears. "I think you're reading too much into it. It was just a dream."

But even as she said the words, Emily wasn't sure she believed them. The dream had left her with a sense of longing, of something unfinished. And beneath that, a growing certainty that these weren't ordinary dreams at all.

They drove in silence for a few minutes, the only sound the radio and the hum of traffic. Emily found herself staring out the window, not really seeing the familiar city streets. Her mind kept returning to the man in her dream, to the warmth of his touch and the intensity of his gaze.

"Hey," Sandy said softly, breaking into her thoughts. "You okay? You seem really caught up in this dream stuff."

Emily sighed, turning to face her friend. "I don't know. It's just... these dreams have been happening more and more frequently. And they always feel so real. Like memories rather than imagination."

Sandy's brow furrowed with concern. "How long has this been going on?"

"A few months, I guess," Emily admitted. "At first, it was just flashes - glimpses of that forest, or the man's face. But lately, they've been getting longer, more detailed. Last night was the most vivid yet."

"Have you thought about talking to someone about it?" Sandy asked hesitantly. "Like a therapist or something? Not that I think you're crazy or anything," she added quickly. "But if these dreams are affecting you this much, it might help to get a professional perspective."

Emily shook her head. "I'm not sure what I'd even say. 'Hi, I'm having recurring dreams about a hot guy in a magical forest'? They'd think I was nuts."

Sandy chuckled. "When you put it like that... But seriously, Em. If this is bothering you, there's no harm in talking to someone. Dreams can be our subconscious trying to tell us something important."

As they approached the cafe where their friends were waiting, Emily felt a sudden chill run down her spine. She glanced out the window and froze, her breath catching in her throat.

There, on the sidewalk, stood a man who could have stepped right out of her dream. The same tall, muscular build. The same wavy dark hair. He was fully clothed now, wearing jeans and a leather jacket, but there was no mistaking him.

The man turned, as if sensing her gaze. For a brief moment, their eyes met through the car window. Emily felt a jolt of recognition, of connection. Then the traffic light changed, and Sandy accelerated through the intersection.

"Emily? What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost," Sandy said, glancing between her friend and the road.

Emily twisted in her seat, trying to catch another glimpse of the man, but he had vanished into the crowd. She slumped back, her heart racing. "I... I think I just saw him. The man from my dreams."

Sandy's eyes widened. "What? Are you sure?"

"I don't know," Emily said, shaking her head in confusion. "It happened so fast. But it looked just like him. This is crazy, right? I must be imagining things."

They pulled into a parking spot near the cafe. Sandy turned off the engine and faced Emily fully, her expression serious. "Okay, let's think this through. You've been having these intense, recurring dreams about a specific guy. And now you think you saw him in real life. That's... a lot to process."

Emily nodded, feeling slightly overwhelmed. "Tell me about it. What do you think it means?"

Sandy bit her lip, considering. "I'm not sure. But I don't think we should dismiss it, either. Maybe... maybe there's more to these dreams than we realized."

As they sat there, the implications hanging heavy in the air, Emily's phone buzzed with a text message. She pulled it out, grateful for the distraction. But as she read the message, her face drained of color.

"Em? What is it?" Sandy asked, alarmed by her friend's reaction.

With shaking hands, Emily turned the phone so Sandy could see the screen. The message was from an unknown number, and contained only five words:

"The forest is waiting, Emily."

Because the moment you start to want more from me, I will divorce you. And the moment you break your promise and try to fight me… I will ruin you and break you apart completely. Mercilessly. You will regret ever meeting this devil tonight." His threat was given in the same soft but cold voice. But Elle did not even flinch. Her gaze never faltered either. This man was ruthless, and she knew that clearly. His eyes that moment promised nightmares and darkness without any promise of respite. But no matter what he says now, it would still not change her decision. She truly had no other choice. "I understand now…" she said quietly, steeling herself. "Since you don't trust that I will keep my word, how about we do this? You prepare the divorce documents beforehand now and I'll sign it. "Really? Or is it because last night affected you so much that you couldn't stand being around me?" "Don't flatter yourself, Snow. You didn't affect me at all." He smirked, stepping closer. "Is that so?" His fingers brushed my chin, tilting my face up. My pulse quickened. "We're at work," I snapped, swatting his hand away. "This isn't professional." "You're my wife," he murmured. "You're supposed to obey me at all times." I bit back a retort, a hint of rebellion flaring within. Slowly, I stepped closer, letting my fingers graze his chest. His smirk wavered for a second when his wolf reacted and Snow bit his lips. "Careful, Boss," I purred seductively. "Don't hurt those lips. I'm sure plenty of girls would love to kiss them." Snow leaned down, his lips brushing my ear. "And you? Are you dying for a taste?" Caught off guard, I hesitated, then regained my composure as I looked him in the eyes. "Unlike other girls, I have strong resistance against—" I didn't get a chance to finish when Snow's lips crashed onto mine with a fierce kiss that left me breathless. *************** MATURE CONTENT Participating in the Viral Book Call Contest.
