Carter glanced over Penny's shoulder and was alarmed to see that it was dark outside the window. The last time he had been awake, it had been daylight.

"How long have I been out?" She could sense his anxiety rising as he questioned her.

There were worry lines etched in her furrowed brow as Penny replied, "For an entire day."

Carter struggled to sit up. He hissed at the pain on his side and saw that his legs were too weak to support his body weight. He realized he was not sufficiently healed to go searching for his mate.

From the mind link with Gideon, Carter knew he could not use it to find his mate.

Being separated from Dahlia was driving him insane. He had so much pent-up anxiety over where his mate was that he could barely keep his body still.
