Chapter 37: Giving In

Micah

“Hi, Alpha Micah!”

Reece’s voice reaches my ears like an alleycat serenading its mate three blocks over.

If it also happens to hate its mate.

I try not to cringe as I approach.

“Hi, Reece,” I say, my hands pushed way down into the pockets of my jeans. “What are you doing out here?” I can’t help but notice she’s wearing a slinky blue dress that might qualify as a shirt if it was a couple of inches shorter. Her hair is curled at the ends, and the fragrance wafting off of her reminds me of the air freshener my mom keeps plugged into the electrical outlet in her closet. Rosewater and ivy….

“I was waiting for you, silly,” she says with a flourish of her wrist and a giggle.

I clear my throat. “Waiting for me for what?” I am exhausted. I see the top of my house in the distance and long for it to suck me in through the attic window.

“Well, I thought we could catch some dinner!” she proclaims. “Why not? We both have to eat.”
