Chapter 2
"Ugh, I'm going to throw up."
In late of night, with the moon shining brightly over him, a dark-haired man was stumbling down an alley. Littering the alley were trash bags and broken glass bottles. A cat could be seen scouring around for mice as the sound of cars echoed across the concrete walls. Feeling his stomach was about to burst, the man turned to the wall and threw up.
"Bleugggh...why did I have to drink that much..."
The man thought of the day he just had. His boss had given him a large project that was due next week, making him feel very overstressed. It would not be much of an issue by itself, as he was one of the more experienced employees and had done many other projects just like it. The issue was that everyone else was away for the holidays. As the only one who was still working, his boss had given him everyone else's work.
Which led to him drinking himself silly.
After finishing throwing everything he drank back up, he continued walking towards the end of the alley. After reaching the end of the alley, he looked at his phone to check the time.
'It's uh, 10...no 11:30, I should get home.'
Following the route that he had taken for over two years, the man reached a crossroad. With him being drunk, he had no care in the world, completely ignored the red light, and started to walk across the road. He also didn't notice the car speeding towards him. By the time he reached the middle of the road, the car was about to crash into him.

"Fuck, my back is starting to really hurt..."
The man finished crossing the road. He heard someone shouting but couldn't make out the words. Looking back at the road, he saw a car speeding away as the shouting became ever so distant. He couldn't care what people thought of him. As he looked over the road, a wave of nostalgia hit him
'Strange, I feel like I've done this exact situation before...déjà vu, huh.'
After the wave of nostalgia passed, he saw what looked like a body on the road. It had the exact same outfit and backpack as him. It looked like it was hit by a car, with its whole body covered in glass shards and twisted in unnatural ways. The being's blood was also leaking out, creating an ever-increasing pool of blood. However, the moment he took a step towards the body, it disappeared and left nothing behind; no glass, no blood, nothing.
'I must have hallucinated it. I guess I am extremely drunk.'
Pushing what just happened to the back of his mind, he continued on his journey back home. Slowly, he reached the convenience store near his apartment. He paused in front of a store debating whether he should go in or not.
'Should I buy some water? I'm feeling pretty thirsty...nah, I'm almost home, I'll just drink some water when I get back.'
He was prepared to continue his walk home, but before he could leave, he was hit by another wave, this time, with the feeling of regret. He would have ignored that feeling of regret had the other feeling of thirst not become unbearable.
'Fine, I'll go buy a couple of water bottles...I hate me sometimes.' He went into the convenience store and bought 3 water bottles. He instantly downed the first 2 bottles.
'Jesus, do I really need to drink all three right now...' Finally walking home, the man opened the third bottle of water, but before he could drink it, he saw someone run towards him. The kid was being chased by someone, and they were running straight at him.
"Hey, you okay? Hey, wait, watch out, WATCH OUT!" The man jumped out the way, and unfortunately, the water from the bottle spilled all over him.
"Hey! Watch where you are goi-huh?" The man looked around to find there was no one there, it was just an empty street with a few cars here and there.
"How drunk did I get? Now that the water went to waste...Oh well, I guess the water woke me up."
After about 5 more minutes, he reached his apartment building. He punched in his password into the digital lock and entered the apartment. He reached the elevator and waited for the elevator to reach him. Once the doors opened, he entered the elevator and reached his floor. After he walked out the door, he reached into the bag and scrambled around for his keys. He grabbed his keys, reached his home, and was prepared to open the door when he heard a noise inside.
"The fuck was that?" He thought he once again hallucinated it. However, when he heard another noise, that confirmed that he did not hallucinate the noise and there truly was something or someone inside.
'Did someone break into my house?! Why? I don't have any valuables...Do I have anything to defend myself with? I mean, I have my backpack...yeah, I can do this.'
He grabbed the top strap of his backpack and used his free hand to carefully unlock and open the door. He peeked through the crack of the door and saw that the robber was taking all that he could. When the robber went to another room, he entered his apartment room and quietly went to go grab a better weapon.
Fortunately, the man was able to grab a better weapon from his kitchen, which was a knife. Armed with an actual weapon, he was more confident to deal with the robber. He snuck toward the room the robber went. He peeked into the room and what he saw angered him, he saw the robber take the one thing precious to him, a cube made of pure onyx given to him by his sister.
Seeing this angered him, but he did not lose his cool. Right now, he had the advantage. If he recklessly charged in, he'd probably lose his life. The man came up with a plan; wait for the robber to turn away, sneak up to him, and stab him in the head, and if that didn't work, stab him in the back.
The man waited for the robber to look towards through his clothing draw before making the attempt. As he drew closer to the robber, he silently took a breath and then took a stab at the robber's head. Unfortunately, the robber heard something behind him and turned to look, moving his head so that the knife stabbed his shoulder instead of his head.
"Wha-, who the hell are you..." The robber was momentarily stunned and the man pulled out the knife. He tried to stab at the robber's stomach this time, but this time the robber was prepared. He grabbed his arm and hit the knife out of the man's hand. Having no other way of defending himself, he threw the strongest punch he could muster, which landed square on the robber's jaw. The robber felt his head spin as the man pushed the robber onto the ground and picked up the knife.
The man stabbed the knife in the robber's stomach, which caused the robber to start crying in pain.
"ARG-mphh!" The robber tried his best to scream out loud, but his mouth was blocked by the man. The man then tried his best to knock the robber out as he let out punch after punch.
After knocking out the robber, he left the room, locked the door, and called the police. After the police arrived with paramedics, they asked him some questions before leaving, the man went to go take a shower. Finishing his shower and putting on some clothes, the man collapsed onto his bed.
"Ugh, I'm so tired. And that bitch, I'm gonna have to get some compensation...thankfully he didn't break the cube..." The last thing the man remembered was holding onto the cube while he fell into the gentle embrace of sleep.
