Chapter 1The Path to beginning

The first thing I noticed when I opened my eyes was... water, or rather, some clear liquid, and I was surrounded by it. Am I drowning? No, I wasn't as surprised that being near the liquid felt comfortable, or more specifically, breathable; it was a strange sensation. From the corner of my eye, I could see some blurry figures; they seemed slightly familiar in shape. Humanoid? Maybe? I don't know.

As my mind started to clear out, the place started to feel claustrophobic. I wanted to get out of here! Wait, isn't this some type of bio chamber? Shit! Am I caught up in some shitty experiment?

Wait, didn't I die? Then how in the hell did I end up here? And why does my body feel small? Was it always this small?

And why are there so many humans watching me? They are all wearing some kind of lab coat. And what's up with that big ass injection? I got caught in some shitty experiment; fuck my life. I hope it doesn't hurt too much.

Fuck, mom, it really hurts.

"It cried. The subject gave a signal. Hurry, send a word to the holy pope. We need assistance. The integration of the hero's DNA was successful. Give me the vitals."

"Blood Pressure, Normal. The heart rate, a little above normal, is attributed to the first sensory contact in two years. No atrophy in muscles was detected. The subject has a higher-than-average regeneration rate. The energy levels have stabilized at two and a quarter times the level before the DNA transfusion. The vitals are all normal except for minor signs of stress and hysteria."

"Obviously he will have stress. The kid almost died. We had his vitals listed for around a whole minute before we could resuscitate him. I would be worried if he didn't have signs of stress and hysteria."

"Almost every member of the crew who was involved in administering an excessive amount of the hero's blood to the test victims had been killed by Valper Galilei. They overstepped their boundaries because they were required to report on the greater adaptability to the hero's blood."

"Results were the main motivation. This kid may be just what we need to get rid of those imposters and recover what is truly ours. The idiots nearly ruined this opportunity. This specimen was the only one to have undergone the proper genetic recombination. Other subjects all perished. He is more valuable than we could ever fathom. This child truly is a miracle."

"I agree. They got what they deserved. Praise the Lord for it."

"Yeah, praise the lord!"

Ok! I can definitely understand them, but that wasn't the most important thing because their discussion piqued my interest. DNA transfusion, the holy pope, the hero's blood, and Valper Galilei? Isn't this— DxD!? Praise the fucking lord!

Suddenly, everything felt empty. My mind was encompassed by a single thought. I wanted to be free. I don't know how long I was trapped in this bio-pod, but it felt like an eternity. I threw myself on the glass with all my strength in desperation, but there was no room to build up any kind of force, so I wasn't able to move even a bit.

I wanted out. I wanted out. I wanted out.

How do I get out of this?

I think I blacked out for a moment. Suddenly a thought popped into my mind. It felt cold and alien. It was like a computer.

[Next path: Close your eyes and sleep for the next six hours.]

I did so.

(Scene Change)

I woke up feeling refreshed and calm. My mind was clear, probably due to the rest I had, as at that point I was probably too stressed out to make any rational decisions. Now that I think about it, I feel stupid.

Anyway, as I was coping with my paranoia, the door opened, and a few people came in while I merely turned my head in their direction. My eyes work much better now that they have adjusted to, well, seeing. The one in the lead is the scientist that came in most frequently while I was in this room, followed by three more people.

The first was a man who seemed to be in his fifties, though he had a dignified aura around him that screamed respect, and he was wearing royal priestly clothes that made him look like some minister from a king's court.

Next was a fat man with greasy skin. This man seemed like a goblin; he had a moustache that perfectly complemented his grotesque-looking face. And for some strange reason, just by looking at him, I felt angry. It was a strange sensation, as the more I saw him, the more I wanted him dead.

The third and final was a soft-looking woman with golden hair and blue eyes; she was wearing standard clothes that you would see a sister wearing in a church, though her assets were definitely something to talk about.

"What is the situation of the child?" asked the old man.

One of the scientists started answering, "The subject is fine..." However, he was interrupted by the woman with a sharp voice.

"The child is not a subject," growled the blonde-haired woman, stilling every scientist in the room. Damn, this woman is scary! And wait, did I pee?

"Now, now, Griselda, no need to get pushy for the child. I mean, they are the ones who conducted the experiment that resulted in the subject's success, no big deal or anything. But, uh, badmouthing them? That's just like, insulting our Lord, you know? Like, I'm pretty sure it's in the Bible or something." The greasy-looking man said, punctuating his words with a self-satisfied grin.

"Shut up, you insignificant worm! Your very presence makes me want to retch, and your pig-like aura is an affront to the Lord. Don't you dare bring our Lord into such trivial matters, as if he would stoop to acknowledge a pathetic creature like you? Keep that disgusting mouth of yours shut, unless you want to see my wrath unleashed upon you." The woman said coldly. While the greasy man gritted his teeth in anger.

Hot damn lady, is it that time of the month?

"That's enough." Finally, the old man interrupted causing both of them to shut up.

Uhh... What should I do?

[Next path: remain silent for the next 33 seconds, then, with a left forefinger, tap the observatory glass five times.]

I decided to follow the command, as previously it asked me to do something sensible, which helped me greatly, so after exactly waiting for 33 seconds, how exactly long did I wait? Well, a timer appeared in my mind, or rather, I instinctually knew when the 33 seconds passed, and just as it said, I used my left forefinger to tap on the glass five times.

"Sir, the sub... the child is tapping its fingers on the pod," suddenly the scientist, who happened to be standing at the back, noticed the child tapping its fingers on the pod. Instantly, this caught everyone's attention, and soon enough another one spoke as he read the vitals out loud for everyone to hear. "The heart rate of the child is stable, oxygen intake is perfect, and the efficiency rate is 99.7%. No stress or hysteria was detected. The child is conscious!"

"Open the pod!" The old man for the first time gave a command. Soon enough, the entire liquid was drained from the pod, and with a hissing sound, the glass barrier was slowly opened, and I fell to my knees as I was probably too weak to stand. Soon enough, the lady came up to me and helped me stand up; she held me in a rigid yet comfortable position.

"Are you alright, my child?" she asked softly.

I nodded my head in acknowledgement.

"Can you speak, child?" The old man walked up to me and asked with a smile.

"Yes, sir, I can," I answered clearly.

"Lord Pope, my esteemed leader and holiest of holies, I beseech thee to grant me custody of this child, for I alone possess the knowledge and expertise to unlock the secrets of his success. I assure thee that I shall study the parameters of his being with the utmost care and diligence, and deliver to thee the most pleasing results. I beg of thee, please, please grant me this child!" The greasy man's voice was wheedling and high-pitched, and he licked his lips repeatedly as he looked at me.

Damm! He is a Pedo shit! And this one's case appears even more severe than a certain snake.

The Lord Pope's expression darkened, and his voice boomed through the room. "Silence, Valper! Your lascivious gaze and depraved desires are not lost on me. You shall not lay a finger on this child or any other child, for they are under my protection. This project is dismissed, and the child shall be trained to become an exorcist, as befits his potential. Any further attempts to claim custody of him or any other child shall be met with severe consequences." The old man's eyes flashed with righteous anger, and the greasy man visibly cowered under his gaze.

"Dear child, I want to express my sincerest apologies for all that has befallen you. No child should have to go through what you have endured. As the head of the Sellzen family and a servant of the divine, it is my duty to ensure that you are taken care of, not just as my responsibility, but as my own flesh and blood. I know that the circumstances of your birth are unconventional, but that does not change the fact that you are a precious and valuable member of our family."

Huh? Wait what?

"My dear child, please know that you are not alone. You have a family, a community, and a God who cares for you deeply. Let us walk together in faith and love, and may our actions always reflect the grace and goodness of our Lord."

Is this man preaching the bible or what?

"From this day forward, you will be known as Freed Sellzen, the grandson of Jeremiah Sellzen, a name that carries with it the weight of our family's long-standing devotion to the divine. You shall be a beacon of light, a symbol of hope, and a reminder of the mercy and compassion of our Lord. You will be given every opportunity to grow and flourish, pursue your dreams and find your purpose in this world. And most importantly, you will always have a home and a family that loves you unconditionally."

The room cheered with the pope's gracious speech while I…. froze.

Fuck.

So I am THAT crazy priest.

Naruto: The Outsider's Resolve

[A Naruto Fan Fiction] Make the best of what you have, they said... But what I am supposed to do when the best I have are red-eyed freaks, a child who's supposed to be the jailor of the most dangerous being in the world, a snake bastard with serious boundary issues, and a whole world of super soldiers with licences to murder. And you know the best part? None of them like me so much... Oh shut it, old man! Take that Will of Fire and shove it up your— Yeah, this second swing at life isn't panning out... --------------------------------------------------------------- What to expect: - Gradual strength progression. Meaningful growth. The MC is a normal guy dumped into the Narutoverse, starts out weak and has to work and struggle for everything he gains. - "Slow" paced. My writing style is a zoomed-in look camera that follows the protagonist. It might seem slow, but I ensure something is always happening to progress the plot forward. - Gritty and often bloody fights and actions scenes with a focus on taijutsu—you'll see individual combat, team fights, and large-scale battle. - A different take on the Narutoverse. The world is full of superhuman mercenaries with liscenes-to-kill—that along with the protagonist's struggles paint the world in a much darker light. - Additions and expansion to the "chakra" power system. I consider myself a conservative when it comes to adapting the power system—and aim to retain the original feel while highlighting the best parts. - The Outsider's Resolve version of Narutoverse uses the [Naruto Manga] as the base—with additions from anime, books, and even Boruto (though very less likely). --------------------------------------------------------------- DISCORD SERVER: https://discord.gg/w5dJ82SfMr --------------------------------------------------------------- PATREON LINK: https://www.patreon.com/fictiononlyreader --------------------------------------------------------------- DECLARATION: This story is also present on: FFN, Ao3, SpaceBattles, SufficientVelocity, and ScribbleHub RoyalRoad [to be verified] --------------------------------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER: I don't own any character other than my OCs. Vahn was an atypical youth. Due to a rare mutation, his blood had the potential to target and attack ailments within the human body. Touted as a universal cure, people had elevated his status above the norm and given him the classification "Panacea". In the media, he was hailed as a great hero who would usher in a new era or human wellness. However, behind the scenes things weren't so bright. Being a unique individual, Vahn spent his entire youth locked up in a lab with various scientists and research teams using his body and blood to perform endless amounts of experiments. The only solace in his suffering was the various anime and manga made available to him between experiments. He often imagined himself as the protagonist in a world of his own, finally in control of his own destiny. For years he nurtured this desire, until at the age of 14 he died when an organization had tried to kidnap him from the lab... "Finally, I don't have to suffer anymore..." This was Vahn's last thought as he faded into the endless black abyss... "You poor soul."
