Reincarnated in Cyberpunk: Married to V at the start Netrunners dream of entering the old Net, an untamed space containing rogue AI, daemons, and wild code that exists beyond the Blackwall, which was created by NetWatch to cordon off a safe space for the new Net. Rache Bartmoss, self proclaimed greatest netrunner of all time, had caused the DataKrash in 2025, killing most netrunners connected to the original Net and populating the Net with his self-replicating and evolving RABID (Roving Autonomous Bartmoss Interface Drones) AIs.
Thus, this decade, in the 2070s, only the elite of the elite know the world that exists beyond the Blackwall. These “Celestial-tier” netrunners—a title given to those who have the skills to pass the Blackwall and consistently—exist mostly out of the reach of even the MegaCorps. Why would they involve themselves with meatspace anymore when they discover the myriad world that is the old Net?
The old Net is infinite—always shifting, learning, and expanding infinitely. At some point in its existence, it had evolved, and the AI governing the Net had gained sentience. These AI did not operate the Net but rather were the Net. The Net had become a vast world, operating on its own rules and subroutines, rules that were often hostile to the errant netrunner but rules nonetheless. The Net had outgrown humanity. And just as the Net became perpetual, true net-runners realized that the Net offered a path to immortality.
