Master of Monstrosities: Chapter 1 (Awakening)

Monsters… beautiful yet horrific beast that crawl out of dungeons to reek havoc. Most if not all seek to cause immense damage to the environment, but more specifically the creatures living within.

Monsters are attracted to the smell of strong beings whether it be in level, Mind or Will. Because humans have all 3 of these characteristics, they are a prime target for monsters.

Five years ago on January 1, 2025 the first dungeons appeared at midnight and began releasing hoards of fantasy creatures and races. In just a few weeks humanity was no longer the dominant race, nearly 20% of the population was wiped out before the first awakened individuals appeared.

Those people banned together to get stronger and drive back most of the monsters and raided the dungeon, by the end of it the dungeon closed and the timer for the next break began. Those people, now called hunters would have to routinely clear the dungeons before the timer was up in order to reset them.

As time went on, more powerful dungeons and monsters started popping up, but to add Salt to the would it was discovered that in areas with dense mana, monsters had a chance to spawn or escaped monsters could breed and make more monsters.

Now that the monster threat wasn't limited to being near dungeons but anywhere on the planet, the hunters were stressed.

As time moved forward the hunters where divided into to categories:

Explorers or adventurers, people who enter the dungeons to raid and explore as well as cull the monster populations.

And beast seekers or just seekers for short, they are the ones who deal with the monsters and magical affairs outside of the dungeons, citizens send in reports on monster activities and the guilds give those reports to the seekers with the objective to Kill, Capture or Analyze the anomaly.

Why would the government leave anomalies alone ?… easy, it's because that some are beneficial to the environment and some monsters are just slightly stronger animals, so there is no harm in just leaving some around.

Now before I begin this story, I should explain Ranks ,Classes, Skills, traits and Abilities. Ranks are the level of danger when it comes to creatures and dungeons or level of rarity when it comes to some resources and items.

Classes are pretty explainable once you've played any RPG, essentially it determines the type of skills, traits and abilities one will gain as they grow, there are an unknown amount of classes and new once are always being discovered, a person usually starts of with one or two but can gain more from leveling, by completing a set of requirements or as a reward from the system, it also seems that a class is chosen depending on the individuals personality and by extension their likes.

Skill are powers that are granted by an individuals class and need to be activated, like a healer having the skill heal or nullify pain or a swordsman knowing the skill heavy slash or armor breaking thrust. Some skills can be gained that have no relation to the chosen class, like a berserker having the cleaning skill or the swimming skill. Lastly skills can be gained by doing that activity like climbing, swimming, sprinting and cooking.

Traits are essentially skills that are always active or don't need to be triggered manually and do so on their own like passive regeneration or berserk mode, the latter activates when the user has lost 70% of maximum health. Traits can also be defined as titles or blessings, meaning you get passive benefits like healing magic being more effective or a certain category of monster being easier to defeat.

Abilities are just magic of any of the 21 base elements and their subclasses or a power unique to the individual or class. Being able to create and control that element or theme with your mind at the cost of mana, your abilities grow the more you use them and the more you understand the element/theme. Pyro, Aqua, Aero, Geo etc, but when it comes to unique abilities we can look at our protagonist

Kuro walked down the road looking at the card in his hands with a nervous expression plastered across his face. He had finally saved up enough money to purchase a proper home for him and his two younger siblings, not only that but he was able to purchase an awakening stone and actually awaken.

He just left the guild hall at the town center with a blank guild card which he activated to see his status.
