Yan Mei the only daughter of the Yan family is divorced by her husband Wang Lu after a year whom she managed to get married through vicious ways. However, her parents did not given her time to get over it when they decided to marry her off to another powerful man, Zhang Yu without her consent. Will she be able to forget about Wang Lu, the love of her life?
Leaning her body against the white painted wall, Yan Mei glanced outside through the window where she had drawn the curtains. Her mist eyes would often dart in the direction of the wall clock where she counted each second that passed without seeing her husband's car return back to their residence.
Hours back when they were having dinner, he had received a phone call from someone which prompted him to leave in a hurry.
As she was still staring outside the window, the ringing of her phone brought her out of her trance and she hurriedly walked to it, in hopes of it being him. Looking at the caller, she was disappointed to see that it was Grandma Wang, her husband's paternal grand mother.
Nevertheless, she picked up in a hurry.
"Yan Mei," called the old woman's voice from the other line.
"Yes Grandma," she answered gently. "What is it? You don't sound good," she inquired. "It's nothing Grandma. It's late, I thought you should be sleeping," she said. "I called to tell you something important but you have to stay calm," the old woman said instead. When Yan Mei urged her to tell her, she continued to say," Wan Jia is back."
A moment of silence passed before Yan Mei replied, "Y-yes Grandma. I just found out." "When was that?" she asked, surprise evident in her voice. "She called Wang Lu while we were having dinner and as expected, he left in a flash to meet her," she said, her eyes glistening with tears.
Feeling her voice choke, the old woman sighed and said," I don't understand how she came back. But don't worry my dear I will handle everything. You would have told me before he could leave the house and I would have made sure to stop him."
Yan Mei wiped the tears that had stained her cheeks with her palm as the old woman continued to say," I will make sure to send that woman back to where she came from."
"No grandma. Let them be," replied Yan Mei and she continued to say," Wan Jia's absence has not changed his heart towards me for a single moment."
"You should not talk like that Yan Yan. You are the rightful person to my grandson. He will hear from me this time," she declared in an angry tone. "No please don't do it grandma. Not again. I am already scared that she might tell him what we did and he is going to be very pissed at me," she said. "What I did. You did not do anything Yan Mei. Listen, don't wait for that idiot grandson of mine and try getting some sleep," she encouraged and Yan Mei hung up.
She tossed the phone on the bed and she went back to stand in the same spot she was earlier. Looking at the clock, she saw that it was coming to one and she sighed, realizing that he might not come back. They were together doing God knows what, she thought as she walked to the bed and sat.
Her eyes went to settle on the photograph that was resting on the wall, which was hers and Wang Lu's on the day they registered their marriage.
She was grinning from ear to ear in the photo while Wang Lu had his usual cold expression.
Back then, Yan Mei had thought that she was finally going to win his heart since she had become his wife, but she was so wrong.
Having spent an entire year married, not once did Wang Lu stop thinking about Wan Jia, the only woman he had ever loved from college.
Yan Mei then remembered everything that they did, or what Grandma Wang did so that Wang Lu could accept to marry her.
First of all, the old woman confronted Wan Jia and told her to stay away from her grandson. She went ahead to threaten her by saying that she will destroy her family if she didn't leave Shenzhen and go far away. Knowing the influence and power of the Wang family, Wan Jia who came from a humble family had no option but to accept the huge amount of money offered by the old woman and she left Shenzhen.
After they had succeeded in getting rid of Wan Jia, Grandma Wang told his grandson to marry Yan Mei but he rejected, saying that there was only one woman in his heart, and that was Wan Jia whom he was doing everything to find.
Seeing that he was still stubborn, the old woman came up with another vicious plan with her doctor who informed the Wang family that she was in critical condition and that she needed surgery so that they could save her life.
It was there where she told them that she was having the surgery only if his grandson agreed to marry Yan Mei. Having no option as he was receiving a lot of pressure from his family to save his grandmother, Wang Lu agreed to marry Yan Mei.
Throughout the entire year of their marriage, Wang Lu had never treated her as his wife and they never shared a room unless Grandma Wang came to visit them. Wang Lu never missed a chance to tell her that he didn't love her and that only Wan Jia occupied his heart.
Sighing once again, she went in bed and covered herself with the quilt then covered her eyes to force some sleep.
At six sharp, Yan Mei was up and the first thing she did was to look outside the window to see if she would catch a glimpse of his car, but it was not there. So, he really spent the night with her, she thought as she walked back to the bed.
Throughout the time she spent married to Wang Lu, she had anticipated that this day would arrive, where Wan Jia will come back but she didn't think that it would be this hard.
She got up and went to have a bath since she had a very important meeting at work in the morning hours.
After getting dressed in a sky blue business suit, she grabbed her navy blue designer handbag and she went downstairs.
Sitting at the table alone, she was served breakfast by the housekeeper.
Before she could eat anything, she looked at her and asked," Did Wang Lu call last night?" "No Ms Wang. The young master did not call," she informed and she nodded.
Yan Mei realized that she had no appetite and she stood up before leaving the table.
Walking towards her car, she was yet to open the door when she saw the gate open and in came Wang Lu's car.
She immediately dropped the hand that was holding the door and she turned to look at his car. When it got parked, she saw the door open and out came the dishevelled Wang Lu. The moment his eyes met hers, she noticed the intense coldness in them and she watched him make fast steps to where she was standing.
She realized that Wan Jia must have told him everything. Her heart pounded in her chest.
