Killed by a Smile

The glowing Zora City is nothing short of outlandish. The buildings are sleek and had a cool feel to them. The glowing stones are well polished and have intricate designs embedded into them. Everywhere you turn, there is a water fountain.

Water slides extended everywhere, the Zora used them as a travel lane, swimming at high speeds to their destinations. The occasional Hylian or Goron popped here and there.

The bridge leading into the city is well guarded, breaking through by force wouldn't been quite difficult especially since Ganon had wanted to do it without any siege machines.

With a smile as friendly as a smiling dog, no one could tell that this man is actually a murderer. A Zora child bumped into Hatsotan.

"Oh, why hello there little one" (Hatsotan)

The child looked up and giggled, the mother came shortly.

"Forgive me, she's a little excited today. I told her we are visiting the park" (Zoran Mother)

"It's nothing to scoff over, children should be children" (Hatsotan)

Hatsotan seemed pleased as he watched the child, not because he liked children. He is happy that this child may die in the future attack. Just imagining the child and mother pair dying made Hatsotan's smile even brighter.

Many of the Zora elderly had a look on their face as if saying he didn't belong here. Hatsotan made a mental note of this.

A Hylian suddenly collapsed. A small crowd formed around the man.

"Sir, sir wake up" (Random Zora)

"He's not breathing, hurry someone get a herbalist or alchemist" (Random Zora)

'Herbalist, shouldn't they get a doctor?' (Hatsotan)

As Hatsotan thought that he walked through the crowd towards the fallen man, no one is performing CPR.

'I guess if you have magic medicine that can heal wounds in an instant, there wouldn't be a need for doctors' (Hatsotan)

Kneeling before the man, Hatsotan performed basic CPR. Why would a murderer know how to do CPR? Learning how the human body works allows for a cleaner kill. Not only does Hatsotan know basic CPR, but he also has basic knowledge in anatomy, biochemistry, and other useful subjects that aren't generally associated with bloodthirsty killers.

It didn't take long but the man was breathing again.

The man coughed a few times.

"What happened?" (Hylian Man)

"You collapsed, this person saved your life" (Random Zora)

The man looked at the smiling Hatsotan.

"You have my deepest gratitude, please allow me to treat you to lunch" (Hylian Man)

"I'll take your offer" (Hatsotan)

Why did Hatsotan save the man's life? Well, it would be a waste if the person died from something like a heart attack. Killing someone up close while they cry and beg for their life brings pleasure to Hatsotan's vacant heart.

The pair are now in a restaurant, the Hylian man thanked Hatsotan once more. It may seem like a waste of time for Hatsotan to be having lunch with a random stranger, but Hatsotan wants to know this man's story.

"This place is great, the food is delicious and it's one of the only restaurants that allow Hylians like us" (Hylian Man)

"Do the Zora have a grudge against Hylians?" (Hatsotan)

"Yeah they do, they're blaming us for the death of Mipha or something like that. We all suffered because of that Ganon guy, so don't go blaming us. Though it's mostly just the elders, the younger ones don't really mind us" (Hylian Man)

"I see, that makes sense now" (Hatsotan)

"Thank you once again, it runs in my family, the sudden collapses. Usually someone would bring an elixir and then I would rack up a bid debt. Again, thank you" (Hylian Man)

"No problem, I guess you could say, you now owe me your life" (Hatsotan)

With that same fake smile, the Hylian Man took it as a joke. Make no mistake, Hatsotan will use this to his utmost.

"The names Preston, I'm from the Akkala region, just passing through" (Preston)

"I go by Hatsotan, I'm from Hateno" (Hatsotan)

"Hateno, that's all the way down south. They are the biggest producers of Hylian Rice. Too bad it always rains in this city, if it didn't, then rice can be brought in without spoiling" (Preston)

Ganon did succeed in infecting Vah Ruta, but with the death of Mipha, her spirit is able to keep Ganon from fully operating the Divine Beast.

"It is a shame, but it's not like anyone can change the weather" (Hatsotan)

"Someone needs to tame that Divine Beast, its disrupting trade and causing chaos. There aren't any troubles down at Hateno, around here we have to worry about Guardian attacks and monsters of all kinds" (Preston)

"You don't say, I've never encountered a Guardian before" (Hatsotan)

"Oh they're terrifying creatures of death. Thankfully the Northern Akkala University develops weapons to fight against the Guardians, though they're a bit pricey for the most people" (Preston)

"The University, have you ever gone inside" (Hatsotan)

Hatsotan heard about the university from Ganon. Death Mountain and Zora's Domain create a narrow path to the Akkala region, getting monsters in is troublesome so attacking the university is almost impossible.

"No way, you have to be a genius to go in there. Otherwise, you'll work as a maid or something, but even that has requirements. I heard there's a suit of armor that makes you immune to Guardian attacks" (Preston)

"Not possible" (Hatsotan)

"I believe it, they created arrows that can kill almost anything. I saw a lynel killed with just one of those arrows. What were they called..." (Preston)

As Preston thought hard about what the arrows are called, Hatsotan became more and more curious about this university. He is tired of using swords and bows, maybe there's a firearm being developed there.

The waiter finally came, she is a beautiful Zora girl with light blue scaly skin and a well-defined face. She has a nice figure and is not too short nor too tall. Despite her young appearance, she could be several decades old.

"Hello, have you decided what you wanted?" (Waitress)

Preston briefly looked at the menu.

"I'll have the grilled Hyrule Salmon with hazelnut stew. Order whatever you like, it's on me" (Preston)

"Why thank you, I'll have the creamy bass stew with assorted vegetables" (Hatsotan)

"Okay, one order of grilled Hyrule Salmon with hazelnut stew and one order of creamy bass stew with assorted vegetables. Coming right up" (Waitress)

After she left, Preston remembered the name of the arrow.

"Now I remember, its called an Ancient Arrow" (Preston)

Hatsotan got up.

"Excuse me, I'm going to take care of some business" (Hatsotan)

Walking out and behind the restaurant, Hatsotan turned invisible and snuck into the kitchen. While no eyes were on him, Ganon vomited into a large pot full of soup, mixing in the Malice.

After the ordeal, Hatsotan went back to his seat.

"My, that waitress is something" (Preston)

He is talking about the girl who was serving them. She is taking orders from a table over.

"Zora women are something else" (Preston)

"I suppose" (Hatsotan)

"Do you have someone special?" (Preston)

"No, I'm single" (Hatsotan)

"A handsome man like you, stop lying to me. Come on, you have to have one" (Preston)

"I don't, I see no need for one" (Hatsotan)

Hatsotan doesn't have the capacity to love, something in his brain doesn't allow it to happen. That is why he is able to kill with no remorse. His former host not only had crippling depression, but he was also autistic and a bit psychotic. A perfect body for Hatsotan.

It wasn't long before the food came.

"Here you go, enjoy" (Waitress)

The waitress winked at Hatsotan before leaving.

"I think she has a liking to you" (Preston)

"Perhaps" (Hatsotan)

Underneath his bowl is a note.

[My shift is almost over, if you wait for me we could go have some fun

Hatsotan smiled a little, he hasn't brutally killed someone in days.

"Your smile just got bigger, what happened? She gave you a note didn't she! Let me see" (Preston)

"Let's just eat" (Hatsotan)

Preston continued to talk about how he's going to make it rich one day and other things that young people do.

"Please once again, thank you for saving me from a large debt. I owe you one" (Preston)

"Of course, you owe me your life" (Hatsotan)

"Well, I'll let you meet your lady friend. If you need me, I'm staying in the western residential district, when you get there just ask around, people will point you in my direction" (Preston)

"Thanks, I'll visit sometime" (Hatsotan)

Hatsotan has a near-photographic memory, if he sees your face he will remember it.

An hour later the waitress's shift is over.

"You actually stayed. Let's go do something fun" (Fotola)

"And dangerous" (Hatsotan)

Again, with that same smile, the waitress thought it was meant as a joke.

As they walked throughout the city they introduced themselves.

"Hi, my name is Fotola, my family owns the restaurant you just ate at" (Fotola)

"You can call me Hatsotan, I'm a hunter" (Hatsotan)

"You're a hunter?" (Fotola)

"Probably not the same kind you're thinking of, but yes. I am a hunter" (Hatsotan)

"My dad's a fisherman, we cook the fish he catches. Where are you from?" (Fotola)

"Hateno" (Hatsotan)

"All the way down there, I want to go to Gerudo Town but I'll need to save money. Why'd you come here?" (Fotola)

"For the viewing pleasures" (Hatsotan)

As he said that he slowly gazed at her, she blushed a little.

"Anywhere you want to go?" (Fotola)

"Somewhere private, where no one will see us" (Hatsotan)

Her face flushed red even more.

"It took a lot of courage to write you that note, I never thought you would stay" (Fotola)

"I think this is well worth the wait" (Hatsotan)

With his sweet and earnest voice, no person would ever suspect Hatsotan. Seeing that she is under his charm, Hatsotan gathered his information.

"Will the government tame that beast anytime soon?" (Hatsotan)

"It's been over a century and they haven't done anything. I remember when I was young that Mipha had tamed it. When Ganon's Malice crazed it, Mipha tried to calm it down. She didn't make it out, after that our hopes diminished" (Fotola)

"Have faith, I heard the hero has awakened" (Hatsotan)

"I don't have faith in the hero, when Mipha needed him most he wasn't there by her side. She had to face Ganon alone" (Fotola)

Hatsotan smiled.

'Excellent, the people dislike the Hero. This will make my job easier' (Hatsotan)

Hatsotan knows briefly of the Zora Champion Mipha. She had the ability to heal any wound, but alas she was no match for Ganon.

"How do you like it here?" (Hatsotan)

"It's great but taxes have risen lately, it's been hard these past few years" (Fotola)

"Any reasons?" (Hatsotan)

"The government has been increasing military spending lately, we don't know why" (Fotola)

'A stronger military, this could be bad for us' (Hatsotan)

They walked across the Eastern bridge towards Mikau Lake. Little did she know, she would never make it home.

There were other couples around and about.

"Mikau Lake, we call this the Couples Lake" (Fotola)

"We're not at our location yet, I have somewhere more secluded in mind" (Hatsotan)

Fotola followed him without thinking, the only thing on her mind was having a good time. He is by far the most attractive person she has ever laid eyes on. They walked further south, a small cave hidden behind some bushes. Hatsotan noticed this small cave when he walked down the stairs leading to the East Reservoir Lake.

He pulled her into the cave when she least expected it, pressing her against the wall she rather enjoyed the situation.

"Is it true that Zora's are weak to electric-based attacks?" (Hatsotan)

A rhetorical question, Hatsotan just wanted to watch her reaction.

For the first time since she met him, Fotola had a bad feeling.

"My race is weak to electricity, why?" (Fotola)

"Just making sure" (Hatsotan)

In that split second Hatsotan revealed a small yellow chuchu from his sleeve that Ganon had just created. She had no time to scream as Hatsotan shoved it in her mouth, slowly the chuchu released short and weak bursts of electricity. To any other race, it would only feel like a sting, but to a Zora, it is more than enough to slowly chip away at their health.

Slowly Fotola watched as her health depleted little by little. She began to cry as she struggled to break free of Hatsotan's grasp. He is too strong, tears rolled down her face as she knew death was awaiting her. Not only did the chuchu release electricity, but it was also blocking her air tube suffocating her at the same time.

"It's okay, shh, calm down. Relax, it will all be over soon" (Hatsotan)

Hatsotan smiled again, but not the nice smile that he has been putting on. This smile is his true smile, the smile of death.
