Several weeks later, Abigail called Erick to her office to ask him about how Adeline was doing at work.
"She's doing great, ma'am." Erick smiled, handing her the report that Adeline made. "I've rechecked it. At least we've got someone who isn't a disappointment."
"What have you been doing with her these past few months?" Abigail stood up from her chair.
"What else? We're just working—"
"You know I live with her. Tell me everything."
"I don't understand what you're trying to say."
"You harassed her. Didn't I tell you not to?" Abigail flashed her eyes angrily at him.
"I-I'm sorry ma'am." Erick bowed. "I just couldn't control it."
"It doesn't mean that I have feelings for you that I won't have the courage to demote you. Do not ever treat her that way!"
"I-I was just playing with her...and that happened such a long time ago... I'm n-not doing it anymore, ma'am."
Abigail stomped towards him. "Don't make me throw you off this building, Erick. If you like her, treat her right."
"How can I treat her right if all she thinks about is your feelings for me?" Erick looked way. "She can't love me because of you..."
"If you're not serious about her, then you should just stop treating her like you are. She's just in the process of forgetting Nicholas so—"
"I would never do such a thing to break her heart or make her cry. I love her."
"You fell for her in just two weeks. Do you really think that's true love?"
"There's nothing wrong with that. Are you just saying this so that you can have me all to yourself?"
Grabbing him by his collar, Abigail jerked him close to her face, gritting her teeth. "Watch your mouth. I'm not an egocentric person."
"I-I'm sorry, ma'am. Ca-Can you let go now?" Erick smiled as his head started sweating.
"I don't give a damn about what you think, but you better be careful of you act around her. I won't get in the way of you and Adele, so you better treat her well. Don't make her one of your toys."
"Did I say I was? Who are you to even tell me not to date her?"
"You dare talk to me in that manner?" Abigail slapped his face. "She ran away from home, happy?"
"You..."
"She had to pay for her father's debts, deal with her parents' divorce, and get over Nicholas."
"She...never told me anything about her parents..."
"See? That's proves that she doesn't trust you, so just give up. You don't stand a chance against her first love."
"They will never be together! Nicholas rejected her!"
"How will you feel when your first love confessed to you then? Tempting right?" Abigail loosened her grip. "Even if you and Adeline end up being together, Nicholas will always have a bigger place in her heart, Erick."
"By the time he realizes his feelings for her, Adeline might have already been married to me."
"You don't know anything about her. You don't know her past nor her future, so it's best if you just back out."
"I don't know what I mean to her or even what I see in her." Erick fell to his knees. "I want her because she's different. She's not like anyone else cause she makes me happy in a way no one else can."
"You? Happy?" Abigail bursted into laughter. "What's wrong with you?"
"You have no idea how much I like her, how much she makes me smile, how much I love talking to her, or how much I wish she was mine. I do love her, ma'am."
"Leave."
"What—"
"Didn't you hear me?"
"I'm sorry for hurting your feelings, but I can't change the way how I feel about her, ma'am." Erick bowed as he made his way out of the room.
Leaving Abigail alone in the room, tears started falling from her eyes as she looked at the picture frame that contained the photo of her best friends, Molly and Adeline. It was painful seeing the person you love falling for someone else. She resented the way how Erick treated Adeline even though he fell for Abigail first, so how can she say goodbye when her heart still wants to hold on?
