It no longer felt like the ground was crumbling beneath Sir Felix's feet. 

The second in command had gotten used to an unstable environment in the years following the previous duke's death. It simply was the reality that he never stayed in one place for long. Knights and commoners alike needed his protection and he stretched himself thin, trying to be everywhere all at once. 

It wasn't until Henry came to the north that he realized just how exhausted he was of the hand he had been dealt. The new commander delegated some of the tasks away from Felix so he could focus on improving his own skill and other aspects of the knighthood that were in dire need of help. 

As he looked across the knight's yard from the front of where he stood as apprentices warmed up for their morning practice, he finally felt happiness returning to him. Things that were simple for many weren't so for him.
