Chapter 5: The woes of being a Toddler

Several months had passed, and the end of the year was approaching. Malach sat on his bed, contemplating the events in this magical world. Firstly, there had been a noticeable uptick in reports of Death Eater attacks within the Ministry, seemingly spurred by Voldemort's desperation triggered by a certain prophecy.

Secondly, Malach had finally outgrown his diaper phase, a development he welcomed with immense relief. Randomly soiling himself and lacking control over such basic bodily functions had been nothing short of embarrassing. Alongside this achievement were milestones like learning to speak without stumbling over words, forming complete sentences, mastering the art of walking, and developing the necessary leg muscles. He also began learning to read, write, and even doodled impressive pictures, such as an outstanding drawing of a car.

Thirdly, over the past month, as Malach neared his third birthday and demonstrated above-average intelligence for his age, his mother decided it was time to initiate his education in wizarding etiquette. He practiced proper postures for sitting, standing, and walking. He learned how to use cutlery while receiving drilling in table manners—essential skills for a young wizard. Even though he possessed knowledge beyond his years, he had to feign a more typical two-year-old's pace in these matters. The only aspect he could control was his bodily functions, but he believed that these embarrassing problems would gradually fade away by the time he reached four years of age.

His mother had informed him that formal lessons in other subjects would commence when he turned three, which was fast approaching. Until then, he would continue to engage in typical activities for a child his age. The only notable difference was the presence of his system, which had released some tasks for him to complete. His bloodline activation had significantly elevated his talents from their previous levels.

Currently, the tasks were beyond his capabilities, but that wasn't a concern at his current age. There would be ample opportunities in the future to persuade his mother to provide him with a teacher.

More importantly, the challenge he faced was concealing his true intellect. He understood that he had to feign the intellect of a two-year-old while secretly harboring the knowledge of someone much older. He planned to reveal his true capabilities when he was older, making it more acceptable to his mother.

Unable to accompany his mother outside the house due to frequent Death Eater attacks, Malach had been confined to the Slytherin Manor. This situation might change at the end of the year when Voldemort was defeated, and the Death Eaters either went into hiding or were captured by the Ministry. However, he suspected that the Ministry might release them using the Imperius Curse as a flimsy excuse.

Malach chose to focus on the present rather than dwell on the uncertainties of the future. While the Slytherin Manor lacked a television, he found entertainment in doodling and daydreaming about wielding magic, much like the house-elves and his mother. The thought of finally performing magic, like the heroes in his beloved Harry Potter series, filled him with excitement and anticipation.

However, not everything had gone smoothly during his first few months in this enchanting world. Despite his deep knowledge of the Harry Potter universe, he had been unable to perform any magic since his initial accidental spell. He had not sensed any magic within himself, and his system, rather than granting him immediate magical prowess, seemed to require hard work and effort before rewarding him with slight increases in talent.

Malach's expectations of effortlessly performing wandless magic, a common trope in reincarnation stories, had been dashed. His system followed a different path, one that required laborious effort to achieve even minor improvements. Still, he couldn't help but lament the lack of instant magical prowess.

As Malach ruminated on these thoughts, a soft knock at the door announced his mother's presence. Veronica entered to tuck him in and bid him goodnight.

"How is my sweet sugarplums doing?" she asked tenderly.

Malach turned toward his mother. "Feeling tired, Mother."

"Aw, sweetie, let mommy tuck you in," she cooed.

Malach nodded, and Veronica gently lifted the duvet from the edge of the bed, covering him. She leaned forward and planted a kiss on his forehead.

"Goodnight, sweetie. Sleep well," she whispered.

With those soothing words, Veronica turned off the light and exited the bedroom. As the sound of her footsteps faded away, Malach closed his eyes, preparing for another night in the enchanting world of magic.
