Did I just proposition Rex? Crap. I wish I could say I’m ready for that, but really, I barely know him. I know he’s okay with one night stands but sex means something to me. Usually, anyway. Rex is suddenly quiet, fidgeting as he’s driving, almost as if he’s nervous.

"Rex?"

"Hmm?"

He won’t look at me. His grip on the steering wheel so tight his knuckles are turning white. He swallows so hard I can hear the gulp from where I’m sitting next to him.

When I lay a hand on his forearm he almost jumps out of his seat.

"You okay?"

"Fine," he croaks.

"You don’t sound fine."
