Demon Spirit System
Do you truly know your family, what they have done, what decisions they've made in the past, what sacrifices had to be made for you to get to this point not many do and better yet not many care still. What if they gave up everything they could to ensure one thing, Survival. In this world, it's a dog-eat-dog world and no one can ensure their survival without sacrifice. Ren, the heir to the Artemis clan, is waiting for the final exam to prove himself as the rightful heir for the Artemis clan. Training his whole life of twenty years in preparation for the role he has more training and resources put into him then most. He doesn't allow this to get to his head knowing full well that it was his people that got him this far and he needs to be able to return the favour when necessary. His clan, the Artemis clan, one of the reigning families in their country takes claim over the resource filled mountains filled with all sorts of treasure defending it tooth and nail with their archery prowess taking down people from miles away and with incredible force from their signature large warbows. In the last 100 years however the tides of power have begun to shift as people have learned to tame demon spirits integrating them into their very bodies for more power. Over the years these people have become known as demon practitioners striking not only awe but fear in the rest of the world slowly learning to accept this new form of power style. Others stay close to their traditional roots while some learn to harness the power of the spirits either by force or kindness. This is the age of demon spirits.
Ferocious Encounter
"Hey those claw marks you saw, im seeing more and more of them now were deep in its territory especially with kill littered everywhere." Ren comments seeing the devoured skeletons of recent kills.
"Yeah you're not wrong, keep shattering my expectations kid." Lanos sighs regretfully underestimating Ren.
"Just because I'm a kid doesn't mean I'm a fool." Ren says with a cocky grin.
"I can see that clear as day now. Here I thought you would be playing with dolls at your age" Lanos chuckles cupping a hand to his ear listening out for the forest.
"Sir, I'll be moving to the trees for better coverage from here on out. I won't be far behind." Ella says climbing the trunks of a nearby tree.
"Alright if anything happens just yell and will come running to your location." Lanos says seeing the hairs on his arms start to stand up.
"Understood sir." Ella says, saluting from the treetops.
"I'm surprised you're able to run this much Ren, where do you get the energy?" Lydia gasps, struggling a little with the intense running.
"I play in the forest constantly so this is easy for me to run through." Ren chuckles, putting a finger on the side of his nose.
"I see I might need to take a page out of your book if you're able to have this much stamina from just playing in the forest." Lydia gasps for air again still not knowing where Ren got this much stamina.
"Be happy to show you, if you can keep up with me." Ren says, pulling down his eyelid and sticking his tongue out.
"Alright why not, it's not like I got anything to lose and I stand to gain more stamina." Lydia chuckles humouring Ren.
"Good you will have to be getting up a decent hour for it though i dont keep slackers in my ranks." Ren says with an authoritative huff.
"Geez, Mrs commander." Lydia chides with a smirk.
"I'm a benevolent one at least." Ren remarks back not losing his arrogance.
"Well I would hope so, Ren." Lydia giggles seeing the brave show Ren is putting on.
"Hey kid see anything up ahead, since you seem to have an easy time getting through the roots and stones." Lanos comments out deciding to make use of Rens stamina.
"So far I don't see any movement in the forest." Ren comments, noticing how quiet the forest is growing the deeper they get.
"Still everyone draw your bows, I'm already starting to feel uneasy." Lanos calls out as he continues to lead the group deep into the forest.
"Oh, is this the famous Lanos sense?" Ella jokes commenting on Lanos's odd sixth sense for danger.
"Sadly i dont think this is the time to be fucking around somethings off. Why don't I hear the forest?" Lanos questions cupping his ears and not getting any feedback or rustle from the trees.
"What do you mean you can't hear the forest?" Ella asks, amused by Lanos's phrasing.
"There are no other sounds from the wildlife, even the wind has slowed to a crawl." Lanos comments as beads of sweat bubble out of the surface of his forehead.
"ON HIGH ALERT NOW EVERYONE!"Lanos shouts out in a panic as the hairs on the back of his neck stand up on high alert.
'Well at least this one has sharp instincts and was wondering when someone was going to say something about the eerie silence.' Ren says to himself finally seeing someone clock on the how off the environment has become.
"What's going on Lanos?" Ella asks as her face becomes more ashen with worry.
"Be prepared to strike at any moment." Lanos grunts out through his fear as he readies his daggers, his fingers curled around both blades tightly.
"Ella, any visual on the red bear." Lanos calls out watching for any movement in the forest.
"Affirmitive 50 metres out i can see some sort of disturbance growing"
"Okay i want everyone to spread out make sure you all have a line of sight with each other so we can provide cover fire. Ren make sure to stay with Lydia." Lanos orders as he frantically pulls out multiple spikes from his cargo pants pocket.
'Don't have to tell me twice, I can't risk leaving Lydia unguarded.' Ren thinks to himself already memorising the surrounding area for ways out just in case.
"Sir getting closer 20 metres away now!" Ella calls out watching the bear like a hawk with her spyglass.
"Almost done in just a couple more seconds." Lanos roars out as he shoves spikes into the ground in a flurry threading cord through each one parallel to each other setting up a corded grid in the clearing.
"10 metres." Ellas voice grows more timid with fear seeing the sight of trees tremble in front of her.
"COME ON YOU BASTARD JUST GET IN THE GROUND." Lanos screams out struggling with the final spike to complete the grid.
'Don't tell me we're gonna die from a half baked plan.' Ren thinks to himself seeing Lanos desperately struggle setting up his trap.
"Screw it, it will have to work half done." Lanos scoffs, slamming his foot into the spike barely getting it deeper into the rough earth.
"Its here sir and it doesn't look happy one bit. It seems we aren't the first to challenge it either, the last people who fought it seem to have claimed an eye whether."
"Well at least we have somewhat of an advantage. Get your bows drawn, people we need to bait it to the corded grid."
In a lunging feral ferocity the Red bear rampages through the dense brush ripping up the rough terrain with ease. Deep scars adorn its body telling a blood story from the amount of battles this one bear has gone through.
"ROOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAR" The red bear bounds through the forest with ease.
"It's here to let your arrows loose." Lanos says as a deathly calm washes over him.
A screeching sound emits from the arrows as they pierce through the air honing in on their target. Arrow after arrow is let loose from ella Lydia and Lanos pelting the bear in an onslaught as they burrow into its hide.
"Are you kidding me, did the arrows even go deep enough?" Ella questions in utter horror not wanting to move from the tree she's cowering in.
"Sir, it's getting ready to charge. I think that just pissed it off more." Ella says timidly as she notices the bear begin to rampage further.
In a blind rage the red bear lunges forward crashing into the tree Ella is watching from carving deep into the bark slowly ripping into the trunk of the tree bringing it down in its unbridled rage.
"ELLA! Lydia give me cover fire now!" Lanos screams out, making his legs explode forward towards his comrade.
"Already on it sir Ren stay close to me i'll protect you!" Lydia calls out as her blue eyes quiver in fear seeing the immense beast in front of her.
The very ground itself starts to be ripped up along with various roots and grass as the bear's gigantic claws tear through it with ease. Its large coiled muscles discharge an immense amount of force as the bear quickly closes the gap between Lanos.
"Lydia quickly COVER ME!" Lanos pleads desperately for any sort of hope.
Before the arrow can be let loose long gnarled claws burrow their way deep into Lanos's flesh spewing blood all over the green forest. The bear's teeth become coated with saliva by the enticing smell of fresh kill.
"LANOS!" Lydia screams out in absolute horror seeing the blood pour out. Her eyes begin to fill with tears as she pulls back the arrow as hard as she can, letting loose the fierce arrow leading it to stream through the air before finding a home deep in the bear's shoulder.
"ROAAAARR!" The red bear roars out infuriated by the searing pain in its shoulder.
Before her blue eyes can even track what's happening the fierce predator has already changed target drooling over Lydia with its fierce hunger. In one cruel swipe her body is sent careening into a nearby tree trunk. Fracturing a couple ribs and shattering her dominant arm in the process.
"No no no, mom, mom i'm so sorry mom this isn't what i thought it was going to be i failed you." Lydia's thoughts swirl in a vortex as the pain blinds the rational part of her mind.
The red bear stands tall over its downed kill bearing its bloody fangs as it lunges forward seeking to sink every fang into its kill.
"I let you down guys. I'm sorry I couldn't even land a decent shot." Lydia cries out full of regret as tears stream down her face.
"Lydia, open your eyes, you're not going to die here. I already promised no harm will come to the thatchers." Ren says grinning full of confidence staring the beast deep into its eyes. A 20 year old confidence beams out of the 6 year old Ren leaving Lydia in a confused awe as her eyes drift to the bright red drops trickling off of Ren's mangled right arm.
"Ren...your arm, what are you doing you should've run why are you here. YOU'RE JUST GOING TO DIE RUN YOU IDIOT. DONT TRY AND PROTECT ME!" Lydia screams out as the guilt and regret torture her seeing her friends and family slowly be ripped apart.
"Don't worry, I don't plan on dying here." Ren says not a hint of fear in his eyes taking full advantage of the adrenaline Ren completely ignores the pain grounding his mind from the shock.
The bear's teeth sink further and further into Ren's left arm making bone shatter and skin rupture apart. However much to the Bears confusion its prey stares back unwavering and fierce stunning it in its perplexion.
"Got your fill you foul beast!" Ren cackles as he thrusts an arrow head deep into the Bear's other eye blinding it completely in the process. stabs an arrow head deep into the bear's other eye. .
"AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRHHHHHH!" The bear howls out in agony as its eyes are torn to shreds by the arrow head.
