It's Los Angeles, California 1997 and Xander Ashmore is the school nerd with the IQ level of Albert Einstein and star student in Math and Science. Then there is tall, drop dead movie star gorgeous, and popular as all hell Jared Brenner. Jared is the king, former star quarterback, crack addict, and alcoholic. Jared also suffers from ADHD, anxiety, and severe depression. His parents work in The Twin Towers and when they come home they completely ignore him. The two are paired together in science one day for a lab in which Jared surprises Xander by asking him personal questions, and later complimenting him in the halls before escorting Xander to class. During the school dance Jared outs Xander as being homosexual before regretting it and then later apologizing to Xander in the bathroom the next morning, things really get heated up from there! Until one fateful day when Xander has had enough of Jared's abuse he writes a suicide note to him proclaiming that he is going to commit suicide. Seeing this note causes Jared much distress and he decides to write Xander a note as well explaining why he behaves the way he does.
