Former subordinate

As soon as Dilliard destroyed the wall, he stretched his hand to the front and dozens of different weapons began to appear on the ground.

The Khan members dressed as civilians laughed at the sight of both the destroyed wall and the weapons that had appeared in front of them, then without much thought, they began to pick them up and charge towards the still confused government agents.

Among the weapons on the ground they had left a katana and a bow, which Nathan picked up and equipped himself, then stood and watched as the Khan members began to attack the agents.

In less than a minute, everything was filled with screams, blood, and death.

The Khan members were bloodthirsty, but the agents were not far behind and after understanding what had happened, began to defend themselves.

The deaths began to accumulate on both sides, however, the Khan members were in the majority, so in the end it would be the agents who would succumb.

Nathan remained with an indifferent expression on his face, then reached under his coat and pulled out his mask before putting it on.

'...Do what you have to do'

Remembering Dilliard's words, Nathan sighed and started walking towards the wall, where the battle was beginning to end after almost twenty minutes.

Dilliard, who had refrained from combat, went to the top of the wall, and watched the other side, hoping to see some calamity.

Nathan dodged corpses as he headed for the big hole in the wall, then frowned when he saw the other side.

Everything was in tatters, with no sign of life, but the entire infrastructure seemed to be completely fine.

It was as if the government had decided to sacrifice a part of the city to make it the battlefield against the wave of the cataclysm.

Not knowing whether it would actually work or not, Nathan raised his head when he heard Dilliard speak.

"From now on we'll take over this area while we wait for orders! Finish anyone who comes near!"

Everyone raised their hands and began to cheer for the victory he had achieved, as easy as it had been.

Nathan was momentarily stunned to see the indifference of all for their now dead comrades. He watched as they moved their bodies undisturbed and began to pile them into a mountain before someone with a fire-producing technique or relic began to burn them.

Nathan did not know most of the Khan members, including those who had died, so he did not have much sympathy for them. It was different for them, however, as they had known each other for years and had been through dozens of situations together, surviving day after day.

'They care more about their goal than their lives' Amelia whispered in his head.

Nathan nodded silently and stopped looking at the members, then focused on the other plumes of smoke rising in the distance.

'Then it's done'

Khan's plan was simple, attack quickly and forcefully, taking advantage of the fact that the government would have its bulk of agents in reserve in case any of the areas they were defending were compromised. What they had not expected was a large-scale attack by Khan.

Which would force them to further divide their forces, thus making it easier for Khan to decimate them.

A short time later Nathan heard the first grunt of a calamity in the air, which meant that the wave was already beginning to approach.

Still, he had no intention of confronting it, and would only watch how the Khan members performed.

Climbing up the wall and approaching Dilliard, who was watching the city in front of him with a serious face, he asked him.

"What are we waiting for?"

Without looking back at him, Dilliard replied.

"An opportunity"

Nathan was about to ask again, it was then that Dilliard turned and raised his bow, then quickly and without a second thought fired an arrow charged with essence into the city, creating a cloud of dust as soon as it hit something.

Nathan's eyes widened slightly, surprised by Dilliard's sudden attack.

"This opportunity" Dilliard said before lowering his bow.

In the city, right where Dilliard had shot, the dust cloud began to fade, then a middle-aged man appeared, with black bags under his eyes, messy hair, and an unkempt beard.

Nathan had to pucker his eyes a little to get a full view of the man, then sighed at the sight of his uniform.

'They were quicker than I thought' Nathan thought as he saw the other agents appear behind the man.

Beside him, Dilliard smiled and spoke loudly.

"Long time no see!"

Nathan frowned and covered his ears at Dilliard's essence-enhanced voice, leaving him stunned for a moment.

Turning back to look at the man in the middle of the city street, Nathan saw how he had a grimace on his face, as if instead of being annoyed, he was tired.

"Did they really have to do it right now?" the man said before yawning.

"I was taking a nap, damn it"

Even being so far away, Nathan could clearly hear the man's voice, realizing that the man had a Dilliard-like control to be able to increase the volume of his voice to that level.

Suddenly, the man seemed to realize something, then rubbed his eyes and stretched his neck forward a bit.

"Captain?"

Seeing that the man recognized him, Dilliard smiled placidly.

It was then that the man stretched out his arms and two lumberjack axes appeared in his hands.

"I never thought I'd see you here again, Captain. I really thought we would never meet again"

Positioning his axes in front of his chest, forming an x with them, the man smiled, leaving all his weariness behind.

"Fortunately we were able to meet again, so I can finally kill you"
