Contingency (Multiverse Travel starting in Marvel)

My name is Jason hunter and I am a mercenary. I am a simple guy really , you pay me and I do the job.

Now you maybe asking, how did I get here ? Oh well , My story started with me being abandoned on the front of an orphanage without anything else except for a basket with a blanket.

Life in the orphanage was not easy, now the staff did try their best but really what more could they have done with lack of budget and a complete lack of staff, there were just too many children really.

Now with an over worked and underfunded orphanage, is it any surprise that I fell into the wrong crowd . I think I was five year old when I was approached by strangers for a simple job, one dollar for transporting every bag of powder which really in hindsight was probably coke and oh well I had no parents to warn me not to trust strangers.

You see, children make the greatest smugglers because most people think children are pure, untainted by malice or that they are just too innocent.

Now let me tell you all children are monsters to an extent because really children have not learned the concept of empathy as such they're capable of far more evil given the right circumstances.

Now at five I became a smuggler along with some other children. Now you see out of the twenty children recruited by "boss" you see not many survived.

I mean really children most probably below ten and probably orphans or with really trashy parents do not have the most highest common sense or heck they would not be in the position that they were in .

Now you see some died from crazy clients, some died from trying to steal the merchandise , some even overdose on the merchandise.

In that time, the only thing that saved me during my times was my unbelievable luck and being smart enough to know when to not mess with people more power then me.

The one good thing that came with it was me learning a very valuable lesson , always think, always plan and when things do not go according to plan then have a contingency if not then be ready for anything.

Life continued and with my at this point surprisingly good luck I survived.

I did not thrive but hey at least I somewhat got the better end of the stick , after all I survived while all my other co workers died.

Now , yeah I think as you can say, I was not the most stable of individuals and fortunately I was a child at that time and I still had not learned about the concept of human decency,

You know I mostly survived because of my surprising luck, you would be surprised how many times I came near death.

Now of course when I was like ten, I did eventually officially join the gang and for my initiation I had to shoot a bound and tied up man who had not pay their dues.

I still do not know the name of the man I killed by shooting in the head, I would have done things differently but it was either me or him .

I actually never try to find out more then necessary about my victims ,unless absolutely necessary, that has been the one thing in my mercenary career that has kept my sanity.

I would do it again because it was me against him and I would always choose me.

The surprising thing is that when I was fifteen I actually got out from the underworld because of my absurd luck.

You see all of my higher ups died in police shooting this inevitably leading me to be the only one capable of actually leading the gang and I ran like no tomorrow.

I mean really how does that even happen? I was flabbergasted and that was not even as weird as the fact that the moment I went to just process what happened and check if I was the only person alive from the gang I literally found a bag full of cash in one of my bosses hideouts .

I knew where the tides where going and I am not always gonna be lucky so no point in looking a gift horse in the mouth.

I then ran and I decided to do the smart thing, I used the money only to cover living expenses and nothing else, I literally just used the money to live and did not spend it on anything else because if I did then people would be wondering where I got the money from .

I also put all my efforts into academics because really I know what life I would have if I did not. It took me a year to catch up and a year to get ahead of my peers and when I was fifteen, I graduated from high school because all I did at that time was focus on my studies and nothing else . I had plenty of motivation for it.

I then decided to go to college and got into MIT because really I was literally an orphan with zero support system and I even met all their requirements so they realized I had potential and gave me a scholarship.

Now I am gonna be honest with you if it was not for my motivation due to me knowing what would happen if I did not. I also was absolutely lucky to find that money because without it I would have just joined another gang due to me

I also spent some of my money on learning some self defense with focus being boxing for punching, taekwondo for kicking,judo for takedowns and Brazilian jiujitsu for incapacitating.

I always had a suspicion that maybe one of my coworkers would take a visit . I did manage to complete my bachelors in computing and with it I could have easily taken a job in some good company due to me getting my degree rom MIT but due to my paranoia I ultimately decided to join the military.

I even did not date anyone because of my paranoia after all a whole gang just does not get wiped out overnight and you do not just get that much money as I had without someone searching for you .

I spend like four years in the military and I really only joined for the training invade my coworkers came knocking and spending four years was part of the deal.

After getting out of the army, I found a job with my computer science bachelors from a company that I could do at home. I also started working as a mercenary as a side hustle , I used my contacts in the underworld to get in.

You see becoming a mercenary was a planned risk to not only find out more about my possible "coworkers " but also to keep my skills sharp , just in case they came knocking.
