Chapter 7 - Taking Home

Chapter 7 – Taking Home

"Meow! Meow! Meow!" the grey kitten meowing louder and louder when it saw Danial.

Danial was a bit surprised to see the grey kitten. The kitten was wet and there was quite a lot of water in the box too.

If the kitten continued to be in the box for a bit longer, the water would accumulate and it would possibly drown.

Danial stared at the kitten without having any idea what he should do.

"That's right! There is a free cat in front of me now!" He snapped back to reality when he remembered his purpose of walking around in the morning.

Although his aim was the adult cat, the kitten was fine too.

"W-what should I do now?" Danial started panicking. Trying to find one and finally meeting one was a different experience.

He was searching for them in the morning but finally finding one and wanting to bring it home were two different matters.

"This kitten looks quite fragile. Is it okay to hold it?" Danial mumbled as he looked at the meowing kitten.

The grey kitten was small and it would fit right into both of his palms.

As Danial had no experience and knowledge of the kitten, he had no idea how old the kitten in front of him was.

He squatted in front of the box and stared at the kitten. At the same time, he shielded the box with his umbrella too.

The kitten continued meowing at Danial. It also tried to climb out of the box but the box was too high for it.

After staring at it for a while, Danial felt bad letting the kitten be in the water-accumulated box. As the kitten 'roared' as if asking to be lifted, he reached his hand to lift the kitten.

Danial lifted the kitten and its body was quite cold.

As the kitten was lifted out of the box, it did not struggle and Danial took it out of the box. However, it continued meowing.

"You will get a cold if you continue like this. Ai, I should lift you faster…" Danial felt regret that he did not get the kitten out of the box faster.

Since he did not have anything that he could use to warm up the kitten, Danial hugged the kitten near his chest.

He got up and left the area. Danial did not take the box along because it was the common cardboard box and it would break soon.

While he was walking away from the box, he remembered something.

"Is there anything useful inside the box?" Danial mumbled. He stopped on his track and went back to the box.

He watched a cat video a day ago and there was a scene where the owner said that his cat was attached to the cloth.

According to the video, his cat ended up like that because the cloth had the cat's mother's scent. The cat felt safe and calm when sleeping with the cloth.

Danial wondered if he could find something like that inside the box. It might help him take care of the kitten.

He searched the box and there was a blue towel. Since the box was filled with water, the blue towel was drenched.

Also, he found a piece of wet paper. There were words on the paper but due to the rain, it was impossible to read them.

Moreover, when Danial tried to lift the paper, it broke.

"Is this an abandoned cat? Is the paper trying to ask people to adopt the kitten?" Danial made his assumption.

This kind of thing was common. He used to see this a lot in the past where cat owners left their unwanted cats or kittens in a box with a message asking for anyone to adopt them.

"Leaving a small kitten like this in an open space under the rain… is a bit inhuman, isn't it?" Danial frowned.

Danial took the towel out of the box and drained it as best as he could.

"Hmm… I need to clean this towel a bit, but will the scent remain after washing it?" Danial was a bit worried.

The grey kitten had stopped crying and was clutching on Danial's clothes as best as it could. He looked at the grey kitten for a bit and immediately went home.

A few minutes later, Danial reached his home. He got in and put the wet towel in the bathroom and went to his bed.

"Little guy… or girl?" Danial was unsure. "Ehem, little kitten, wait here for a bit. I am going to find a dry cloth to warm you up."

Danial put the kitten on the floor. It was a bit hard to separate the kitten from him because it was clutching his clothes hard.

When he finally managed to separate the kitten, "Meow! Meow! Meow! Meow!" The kitten started crying again.

"Um… wait a bit," Danial put the grey kitten on the floor and immediately opened the cupboard nearby. The kitten continued meowing.

He found a dry and quite thick towel and decided to use it to dry the kitten.

Danial picked up the kitten and used the towel. Since the kitten was quite small and weak, he wiped its body carefully.

He did it with extra care, afraid of hurting the kitten. After he was sure that the kitten was dried, Danial put it back on the floor and used another dried towel, and wrapped it around the kitten to keep it warm.

"Meow! Meow! Meow!" the kitten continued.

"Hmm? Is it not warm enough?" Danial was confused. "Or, are you hungry?" He suddenly realized that the kitten was perhaps hungry.

"Err… What can you eat?" Danial had no idea. He knew that an adult cat could eat rice and meat but what about the kitten?

"Can you eat rice?" Danial asked the kitten but he knew that he would not get any answer.

"Let's ask the internet. I am afraid if I give you the wrong thing, you will die," Danial unlocked his phone and searched online.

He searched on how to care for a kitten.

thank you~

By the way, I need to mention this. Although I am writing about cats, I am not taking care of any cats.

I do like cats but I am not capable enough to take care of one.

Since I feel like this will be interesting, I write about cats.

So, there will be times where I am wrong and do correct me about it.

I do my research on this stuff but I may not have all the knowledge.

Again, if there is something wrong, do correct me.
