Resumen

Gazing at the Starbucks café at the airports had become a ritual for her. A desperate attempt as she hoped against hope to see him again, probably get one more chance to kiss him again. Looking at the store all lost, she walked ahead, but stumbled and bumped against someone.  The cup of coffee that he had in his hand spilled all over just like the first time when she had met him.  "Jesus Christ", he muttered.  The moment she heard the voice she looked up and saw his face. It was the same face that had promised to stay next to her, till death did them apart. Tears flooded her eyes and she could barely speak, "I knew you would come back for me Raymond". She raised herself on her toes in an attempt to kiss him, but he blocked her lips with his palm. "Whoa, whoa, Miss !!! I guess you have mistaken me for someone else." "What are you saying, Raymond? It's me, your Akira. The love of your life, your fiancée," she said and stretched her hand showing the ring on her finger. He stared at the ring for quite some time and then looked at her face apologetically and said,  "Miss please, I am already a married man." And then he silently walked away. ----- [Instagram - niharikabhol] [Join me on discord at] https://discord.gg/cPVJ69e [Warning: This novel has mature content. Reader's discretion advised]

Chapter 1That fateful collision

[At CHANGI International Airport]

"I need a ticket to New York. ASAP", asked a barely-there frail voice.

"Give me a moment to check Ma'am."

The stewardess said politely and looked back at the screen, typing into the computer.

"Ma'am the earliest is CS airlines, but the economy is full. Would you like to opt for the business class in CS airlines or shall I schedule you for tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow?"

There was no way in which she could possibly bear to stay there for another night. Tomorrow was not an option for her.

"Can you please check for any last-minute cancellations? I really need to go back."

She asked with a pair of pleading eyes and a quivering voice.

Seeing her plight, the stewardess asked,

"Would you like to book a ticket in business class then?"

All Akira could do was to nod because right now that was the only choice that she had.

The girl who always compared the yogurt brand prices to save a couple of cents didn't even flinch for a second as she swiped her credit card and shelled out 3700 US$. She tried to restrain the tears prickling her eyes but it was becoming next to impossible to contain them. The pain she felt in her heart hounded her. All she wanted was a quick escape.

An escape from the cruel and harsh reality of this world.

She gripped her boarding pass tightly in her hand and rushed towards the security checkpoint. All she wanted to do was to get far away from this place, as soon as it was humanly possible. She didn't think she belonged there, she was not meant to stay.

After clearing her immigration, she went to the nearest information panel for flight information. As soon as she reached there, the huge screen flickered with an update. Red letters sprung out beside the flight number and destination.

China Southern Airlines

Flight to JFK - Delayed. New Boarding Time - 03:30

Her flight was delayed by 2 hours.

Two hours !!!

Even the universe seemed to have contrived to imprison her. Just like everyone else, even fate was standing against her, thwarting her free will.

She didn't bat an eye as she stared at the screen. With each passing second, her spirit crushed further, lying in the dust on the ground… shattered into trillions of fragments. She took in a deep breath, trying to control her emotions, to compose herself, but she failed miserably. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she fled away from the information panel. She was desperate to be alone, to find a hidden corner where she could unburden her tears, away from prying eyes.

So when she saw the sign to the washroom, she dashed towards it.

She clutched her purse and started sprinting. But before she could even enter the lounge area she bumped against someone.

A head-on collision.

His built was rock solid, so he didn't move an inch but she fell down because of the impact of the collision. His musky fragrant smell which she had just inhaled was suddenly overpowered with the smell of coffee within a split of a second. He was wearing an expensive suit and from the look of his shoes, she knew that he meant business. His coffee had spilled and the documents that he was holding were scattered all over the place.

"I am so sorry. I am really really sorry."

Saying that she immediately started collecting a few of the sheets which were strewn all over the floor, but she had no courage to lift her head up and look at him as she didn't want him to see her in her messed-up state.

She didn't want to be pitied. So she stood up in a hurry, bowed to apologize, and proceeded to run into the washroom before he could utter a word to her. As soon as she found an empty stall in the washroom, she rushed in to cry her heart out.

Seconds became minutes.

But the stream of tear didn't stop for quite some time.

Finally, after she was able to tame them, she came out and started wiping her face in front of the mirror. At that moment only did she realize how disheveled she looked. She was in the pajamas she had changed into yesterday night and her hair was tied in a messy bun that looked more like a rat's nest than anything that should be on a human head. All this crying had left her looking like an absolute mess. But she didn't care.

She took out her phone which was in silent mode till now.

57 missed-calls. 2 from her brother and the rest from Anthony. She kept staring at the screen and then decided to check her Whatsapp messages. She had 220 unread messages. All from Anthony. She started reading them one by one.

"Babe listen to me. It's not what you think."

"Can you please pick up my phone? Can we talk like adults?"

"Do not jump into assumptions ok? At least hear me out. Do not overthink babe. Please just pick up my call babe."

"Where is your trust? Can you just trust me this once? It's all in your head. I have nothing to do with her. She is just a friend and you know that."

"I knew that you would prepare something for me and stay up late in the night. So I didn't tell you that I was back in the city. Trust me, babe, I had no other intention. I had no idea that Becky would come to surprise me. It was all her."

"Where are you, babe? Please talk to me."

"I love you and only you babe."

Akira kept on scrolling down reading the messages.

She wanted to believe in his words and his logic. It hurt her to even wonder if all his feelings for her were false. Even though she had seen it with her own eyes, her heart refused to believe it.

She had come all the way from New York to Singapore to surprise her boyfriend. Little did she know that she would be the one receiving the shock of her life. Instead of surprising him, she found her life falling apart in front of her eyes.

She gasped for air as she recalled that horrendous sight. But she knew that now was not the right time or the right place. So she tried hard to recompose herself and dialed a number.

"Bro !!! I am coming back. And yes, you were right. Anthony is an asshole."

And the dam broke again. Tears rolled down her eyes and she let the grief consume her.

So when he meets the cute and naive Lucinda Perry at the club, he decides to keep his true identity from her and find out if she was worth keeping. ***Excerpt*** What is more entertaining than a crazy side character? Say hello to Sonia and Bryan. Sonia's heart stopped beating for a second, and then different thoughts started flying right through her head at that same time. Bryan Hank? Her celebrity crush was kneeling right in front of her and asking her to be his wife? Was he mistaking her for someone? Was it possible this was a skit, or maybe this was like one of those celebrity pranks, and there were cameras around, waiting to capture her make a fool of herself? Or perhaps she was dreaming? Sonia wondered as she looked around them, but all she saw were curious onlookers. "Please! Be my wife and make me the happiest man on Earth," He said in a very loud voice that caught the attention of everyone. Her editor who she had been waiting on for over an hour because he was trying to sign a deal with a movie producer who was interested in one of her stories, showed up at that moment, "Sonia, you know Bryan Hank?" Her editor asked in genuine surprise as he watched the scene before him. It seemed like an hour had passed since Bryan went on his knees, but it had only been a minute. Bryan knew no lady would be crazy enough to accept such a crazy proposal, and even if any were, paying her off and calling off the whole thing would be easy since all he wanted was the scandal that could come from this. The headlines were either going to be about his rejected Marriage proposal or his supposed engagement, which would be enough to let Sophia off the hook. "Yes!" Sonia said as she bobbed her head excitedly and extended her finger for him to wear her the ring. "Yes?" Bryan asked in confusion when he heard her response. "Yes! I will be your wife and make you the happiest man in the world!" Sonia said with a giggle and wiggled her fingers until Bryan slid the ring down her finger. Surprisingly the ring was her exact size, and it sat on her finger like it was made just for her. The sound of applause erupted all around them as Sonia stood up with a big smile on her face and embraced Bryan before kissing him right on the lips. Bryan was slightly taken aback by her boldness but quickly recovered since this was his game, and he had to play along. He was the one who had approached her first, after all. So when she tried to break the kiss, he held her chin and slowly nibbled on her lower lip before parting her lips with his tongue and sucked on it in a teasing manner, eliciting a moan from Sonia. Sonia felt light-headed. This was too good to be true. It just had to be a dream. How else could she explain that one moment she was seated at the lobby of a hotel waiting for her editor, and the next she was engaged to her celebrity crush and was kissing him right here in the open? I RARELY give out a full five stars. But this really deserved it. This has everything that I would ever look for in a romance. The characters are believable and distinct. While they have typical traits of female and male leads and the friendzoned guy bestie; they all still come alive. I cannot stress enough how difficult and uncommon it is to find such realistic romances like these. Yes, Raymond was interested at first sight, but he didn’t go gaga love at first sight completely at her. It was an attraction that turned to realistic frustration when seeing her with another guy, for feeling that their encounter was special to only have it come shattering down. Very very believable. Also, the same with Akira. Although I thought for a moment that her fleeing from Anthony and erasing him from her life without explanation after being so devoted to him seemed somewhat inconsistent in character, actually when you love someone so much and have strong pride (like not wanting to take the backdoor), then this extreme reaction is plausible. Lastly, another plus to this romance is the pacing. I absolutely hate it when they get in bed so quickly or even become girlfriend boyfriend so quickly. It’s just. Not. Realistic. I always ask, where is the period of crushing?! Where the uncertainty pricks painfully as you wonder if they feel the same or if this’ll work out?! I miss that ******* and build-up in a lot of romance stories on here... But your story delivered! Good, correct writing. Enough detail, emotion, and fluidity of settings. I didn’t realize that I read past my typical 20 chapter mark for reviewing longer stories, that’s how good it was. This is probably the only review where I felt like nothing needed to be changed. Really amazing, I’ve actually never been this uncritical as I usually have some suggestions after finding gaps, flaws, or inconsistencies. Then again, I haven’t read that far into the story either. Only to chapter 23, so my opinion could very well change. But as it stands, my expectations were reached for a romance story’s beginning, and you have yourself a firm reader. This is staying in the library!

This is one of the purest things I've read on WN. You don't see this level of realism often. Characters are very relatable and funny, not just sticking to one stereotype but proving themselves to be 3D, with each having their strengths and weaknesses. The family bonds between Akira, her brother, and Vickram is superb. I like how you made it so that it was diverse--usually, the MC in a novel like this is Chinese and everything is set in China. But not with this one(you know, just a typical trait of WN) Writing Quality Definitely very powerful when it comes to wrangling with emotions. You can feel the characters come alive. The flow is nice but personally, I don't like reading large blocks of texts. Then again, this is a opinion and I am in no position to ask an author to change their writing style. Some spelling/grammatical mistakes, but not to the point where a reader doesn't know what's going on. Overall, a much higher quality than what you usually find on WN. Updates From what I see, the updates are stable. People will say your chapters are a little short as most novels here are usually 1.2k-2k per chapter, but I say screw them and go what you think you should go. Story Development Nice pacing, not too fast yet not too slow. Already, we can see the structure of what seems to be the main conflict in the later chapters. Establishment of character goals/motives in roughly the first 25 chapters. Strong relationships between characters makes the story feel alive. Realistic reactions to scenarios and quite realistic ways of coping(I would list them but then this would have to be a spoiler), allows for more character development in the future chapters. Character Design I have nothing more to say than that your characters are rich(in both senses of the word) and have vibrant personalities. You used an old trope with your own unique twist on it. World Background Earth. Usage of companies(I haven't read enough into it for me to know anything about the companies other than one is a game start-up? I'm not great at business *sweats*) Either way, it's a 5.
