-----------------------------------------------------

Within a dark and desolate valley, filled with nothing but sand and dust, laid a tall, devilish figure. The dark sky was covered in thunderous clouds, which occasionally gave off quick and bright flashes of light. Strangely enough after the subsequent bolts of lightning, there were no sounds of thunder to accompany it.

Adding to the weirdness, the clouds hanging overhead moved in a wild and unpredictable manner, even though there was no wind to move them. Physics defying phenomena such as this was the norm in this realm.

Dotted around in the distance was the occasional tree, unlike the healthy green colour they normally have, these trees were shaded an extremely dark blue and were completely and utterly withered.

Although these plants seemed to be devoid of all life, if you watched closely, you could see their eerie looking branches twitch periodically as the roots slowly carried the truck off in a random direction.

Back in the valley, with his back against the unexpectedly soft bed of inky sand was Donald. Seemingly uncaring about the apocalyptic wasteland around him, a scene that would terrify both mortals and gods alike.

Heaving a sigh, he brought himself to his feet… well more like hooves to be exact. With his body standing upright, the intricacies of his physique were more easily identified.

Cloven feet, even blacker than the ground upon which he stood. This darkness encroached up his calf forming a thick fur before fading into an extremely light white albeit healthy skin tone, forming a perfect gradient between the two colours.

Although the majority of his body past his mid-calf was the same light skin tone, runic lines of the same abyssal black colour that tainted his cloven feet and calves etched themselves across his bare body, while patches of darkness covered up his more masculine appendages.

Protruding from his shoulder blades were a pair of large feathered wings that shared the same shadowy colour as his short black hair and the long goat horns that shot out his skull.

Each part of his body that was doused in the deep black gained a wispy property that made it seem as if a small stream of mist was constantly leaking from the pigment.

This included his lazy looking eyes that were currently scanning the terrain, the similarity in colour between the pupil and iris made it difficult to tell where one ended and the other began. The quality that it gained from the darkness made the combination between the two parts look like a single wispy black flame within a sea of white.

From Donalds overall appearance, those that laid their eyes upon him would come to label him as something of devilish origin, and while this isn't exactly wrong, it isn't correct either. The origins of his birth were complicated to say the least, even to himself.

"Fuck me man, am bored out ma fucking skull" Donald said while sighing deeply.

For Donald it's been a long time since he was brought into existence, for an estimated minimum of a thousand years. At the very beginning, while he was still in the process of gaining intelligence, the decades passed by quickly. It was just a constant phase of coming in and out of a deep slumber, if he was lucky, he'd manage to stay conscious for a couple of days… he thought. It's quite difficult to get a grasp of time in this realm, so that period is still a big question mark for him.

Eventually all the sleeping ended, and the fully formed rudimental body similar to what he has now was complete . Curious about everything he delved into the ins and outs of the place which was named 'The Land of Shadows'. At the very beginning of his journey he quickly found out that he was abnormally strong compared to the other inhabitants, able to naturally suppress those lost souls around him, similar to how a beast at the apex of the food chain could assert his dominance on those lower than it.

Though briefly interested in the phenomenon, his intrigue quickly grew old after finding out that it was simply due to the difference in strength. Or so he thought to begin with.

After many centuries of exploration, and training his inborn abilities to their utmost, Donald found out the the creatures that resided in the Land of Shadows were only subservient to him. How he found this out was from one of the abilities he seemed to have inherently gained, 'Soul Search' is what he named it.

This ability allows him to read the souls of beings he comes into contact with, by reading the memories of different beings he found out about a wider world. One filled with humans, gods and a huge variety of other magnificent species.

After his first peek at this new world, Donald instantly realised that he wanted a piece of it. Powered by his insatiable curiosity, he endeavoured to find a way to leave this land.

Sadly though after spending ages trying to find a way to leave, he only managed to find one escape route. At a seemingly random position in the Land of Shadows was a massive otherworldly gate which served as a one way route into the realm.

How he knows it was one way? For years on end he tried to push his way out but to no avail. Forcing, manipulating, even complete destruction of the door didn't allow him to escape. Once the door was destroyed it only took a few days for it to be restored back to its former self.

At this point Donald has become the ruler of the cursed land, the king if you will. During his journey he discovered the core of the realm and after bending it to his will, the entire realm became an extension of himself. Manipulating everything within its borders became as easy as raising weak undead. Everything but that accursed gate.

Due to this, Donald came to the conclusion that the gate was a foreign existence not originally from the Land of shadows. Quite possibly held together by the divinities of several gods.

Which ties in with another problem he's been plagued with. Ever since his body formed properly, he's been shackled by golden chains that coiled around every inch of his body. There wasn't must he could do about it at the time, he was on the verge of complete sentience when it happened so his memory was still a bit iffy. All he knew, was that after an intense struggle with something his body finally took the base form he still uses till this day.

Accentuating the anomaly that was the chains, was the fact that they were incorporeal. Donald can interact with the bindings, but nothing else can. The day he found that out, wasn't his proudest moment. During a fight with one of the land's stronger inhabitants, he decided it was a great idea to see if he could block attacks with his bonds.

Didn't work out so well, the dullahan's blade phased straight through the pale gold fetter and sliced his arm clean off. Not that it was much trouble mind you, but it left him feeling like a total twat for quite a while.

Though compared to the gate which consists of purely different types of divinity, these chains seem to be a mix of divinity and something similar but fundamentally different. This other component seems to be able to subtly manipulate the actions of those it surrounds, sort of binding them and forcing them to follow a certain predetermined path.

Luckily, the stronger the person it surrounds, the weaker its influence is. For me, all it's able to do is mess with my luck and prevent me from doing certain things, at most it's an inconvenience.

Still inconvenient or not, they're still a pain. First chance Donald has at getting rid of them he's taking it.

Deciding to move from out the endless desert, Donald made a simple whistling noise that seemed to pierce far and wide through the surroundings.

When the noise died down he shouted "Olc, git yer arse over here!"

Seconds later a majestic black bet rose from the sands, in contrast to it's rather holy counterpart, the unicorn. This Bicorn has a strong malevolent aura surrounding it which ended up causing all the undead treant's prowling in the distance to turn tail and run.

The bicorn had a power body, similar to the war horse's humans would charge into battle on, only beefed up to double a normal horse's size. Perched on top of Olc's head were two thick, pointed horns. Each one either side of his shadowy mane.

Walking up to the bicorn Donald clapped his neck a few times before saying "What took ye so long eh? Wait don't tell me, you were tryin tae chat up those kelpies again weren't ye"

Olc neighs in reply while tilting his head up as if he was proud of his actions, Donald just shook his head and said "Your no right it the heed man, they'd end up drowning ye afore ye even got the chance tae get your cock wet" as he climbed onto Olc's back.

Neighing defiantly in denial, Olc stomped his hooves against the sands while awaiting his master's orders.

"Right take me hame, av got a few souls lined up for searching, aw warriors tae so they should be entertaining tae look at" Donald ordered the bicorn. Not wasting any time Olc runs through the air, creating footholds consisting of dark energy to say in the airborne, the ground beneath us changed from the sands to rocks, in the centre of the Land of Shadows was a rocky mountain range, and built on the largest one of the was the castle I'd constructed as a home.

Dun Scaith, the baddest building in the realm… the only building in the realm.

Most of the species here aren't the most intelligent, and the one's that are don't give two fucks about housing.

Landing in a large courtyard, Donald says goodbye to his trusty steed and heads into the throne room where he keeps any souls of interest.

The interior of the castle was pretty grim, stone and blue fire torches never made for the most welcoming of venues, but considering that everything was made out of materials from this realm, it's a lot better than it could be.

After opening a pair of large stone doors with intricate patterns carved into them, Donald was in the throne room. Practically skipping onto his throne made of many different undead remains, he sent a thread of death energy into one of the armrests and a moment later 4 souls appeared in front of him. Each of the souls had a green tinge to them, while their shapes were indescribable. The souls form was constantly moving, at times stretching wide before shrinking back in and folding in on itself.

Most of the souls that get pulled here end up like this, during the process of being pulled to the Land of Shadows, the fragile souls get taken through the wringer. Causing a high percentage of a egos to shatter and dissipate, hence the rock bottom IQ of most undead. Without an ego, souls can't hold a stable shape, resulting in situations like these.

Just as Donald was about to inspect the freshly fallen souls, a shocked expression dawned on his face. A gap appeared in his realm, this can only mean one thing… The gate that's trapping him has finally opened.

Over the past few years the gates have been having more and more faults, which allowed weaker undead and spirits to slip out. To Donalds calculations it would've been another few centuries before he'd be able to leave.

Excitement bubbled up within him, he's not complaining if he gets to leave earlier than expected.

Throwing the souls back into his throne, Donald sank into his shadow and disappeared from Dunn Scaith

The same moment Donald reappeared from one of the shadows next to the Gate, which was now slowly opening. Leaking from the gaps was the breath of a place he'd never felt before, everything felt… alive.

Even though the vigorous breath of the outside was trying, it still never made it very far, the Land of Shadows corrupted everything that made it through the gate, fueling the darkness and death that plagued the realm.

After momentarily taking in the scent of the human world, Donald began to sprint towards the gate with a borderline crazed look.

What he's been waiting for all this time, freedom. It was that close he could taste it. Donald's wings sprang from his back, stretching them wide he separated himself from the ground speeding up even more.

The closer he got the more he was bathed in the warm, bright light that heat up his cold body.

This was it, freedom is at hand, all those sights he's seen through the eyes of humans, all the new mysteries waiting to be unveiled, all the new burds just waiting to be shagged rotten by his long fat boaby, all of this was at his fingertips.

As his body passed through the gate, his eyes attuned to the darkness were blinded by the sun's glare, but he didn't care, he was free.

"Where's the burds at-" Interrupting his words was a dark shadow rapidly approaching, quickly Donald transformed his eyes to dial back on the brightness and see what was approaching but all he managed to do was mutter "Wit the fuck" before being skelped with a blood red spear, throwing his back inside the gate.

Pokemon Alternate Universe Adventures

A man from an Earth gets the choice to start over in any Universe and chooses an Alternate Pokemon Universe. Let us see if his journey to the top is succesful and the impact he will have on his new world. Pokemon is owned by Nintendo, Game Freak and Creatures Inc. I just use their sandbox for the plot of my MC and my OCs. This will be a "slow" paced story, in fact it's "super slow paced", so please don't expect the MC to directly start his journey in 20 chapters or so, actually multiply that by like 15. A lot is going to happen before that happens. The first 10-20 chapters or so are information heavy, depending on what kind of reader you are. I try to keep my chapter length between 2000 and 3000 words per chapter. My release rate is 4 chapter/week for now. I have a patre*n for those that want to support me with access to some advance chapters as a thank you. patre*n.com/Azrail93 This is an alternate pokemon universe so there will be differences to the games, manga and anime. So if something in the story is different it is most likely on purpose. The original sources are seen as suggestions not laws. Differences can be: Type variants, evolution conditions, strength mechanics, world building and more. If I am at some point asking for reader input I will do so but otherwise I will ignore most suggestions. So please don't spam things like catch this pokemon or do that next. I have my plot planned and external input will be considered when asked for. If I see a suggestion that I believe fit my plot flow I will use it and will credit the commentor. Comments on spelling and grammar mistakes are welcome. I will try to correct said mistakes with time. Constructive criticism will be read and considered. Insult and hate comments will be ignored or deleted depending on severity. Readers naturally can comment their dislike but one worders will be ignored. If the reason for the dislike is explained I will read it. Like previously mentioned pure insults and hate comments will be ignored or deleted. The same is true for simple hate reviews or insulting ones. Reviews complaining about something I warned about, such as the slow pace, will be deleted as well.
