Azumi: A Veil of Worlds

In this world, humans and demons alongside other races exist. They can coexist and a lot of places are already doing so.

Although the Religious Human Continent came in and disrupted the peace after the treaty was signed many years prior.

They started with slogans that would discriminate against demons and demi humans and other races that weren't pure blooded humans.

After two of the world's biggest wars of which happened in the year of 267 and 481 on the Seven Heavenly Gods calendar, the third war broke out.

The religious continent of the humans, known commonly as the Human Continent, decided to attack the Hell Continent's capital. The demons didn't expect this attack and were getting massacred by the human armies.

The Queen and King of Demons were killed by the Holy Mages that were stationed outside of the Royal Castle.

After that, everything went downhill for demons. But this story isn't about how that all started and how it ends. No. It is about someone you will soon meet...

"Hey, Fay we should hurry up and go. We don't want to miss the ship!" said a man who donned black fox ears, hair, and a tail. Alongside him was a beautiful woman who was a fox demi humans as well but had orange hair.

"Yes, dear. I know but we can't just go off without saying our proper goodbyes to our daughter, can we?" Said the woman.

Her name is Fay. And the man who is her husband is named Gabriel. They are both B-rank Explorer type adventurers and have been doing that kind of stuff for the last 13 years together. Although they stopped doing it so much around 8 years ago.

The reason why? Their child was born. Her name is Azumi. She looked like her mom, had silver-white hair and black eyes.

After the birth of Azumi, Gabriel and Fay took a long time off adventuring to raise their daughter.

As both of them finished talking, Azumi walked downstairs in their house to see what the commotion was about. "Hi mom, dad. Huh? Are you going somewhere?" said Azumi.

Fay and Gabriel looked at each other and both had the same thought, *We have to tell Azumi that we won't be back for a while.* Fay leaned over towards Azumi and got down on her knees to speak at the same level of height as their daughter.

Fay then said, "Azumi. Honey. Listen, we have heard news of ruins over on an island far away from here. It may have more information on our ancestors and why they got into a war with the Religious Kingdom of Heilan."

Azumi looked at her mother and father with a face that had a worrisome look. "So...I won't be able to see mom and dad for a long time? Where will I stay without you?" Gabriel walked towards Azumi and got down on his knees.

Gabriel then said, "Don't worry. We have already told grandma and grandpa about the situation and they said it's fine for you to stay with them while we are gone." Azumi's eyes lit up like a fire with gasoline doused onto it. "So I can go see grandma and grandpa again? I like them. They are nice to me. Will cousin Tifa be there like last time?" Gabriel nodded his head.

Gabriel continued, "Well, they're should almost be here by now. They left yesterday night as soon as the letter got to them. Although we wanted to drop you off on the way, they insisted that they come here. I guess they might've done that to come and see how the magic plants they helped me plant have been developing. Haha. Too bad we already had to remove them due to us accidentally leaving a cursed bracelet from one of our adventures outside. They absorbed some mana and evolved into [Man Eating Trapper Plants]."

Fay bonked Gabriel on the head with her palm as if to say "shut up now". As they were done talking, a carriage that wasn't at all fancy, but it was sturdy, came in view from the front window. "Ah! They're here!" said Fay excitedly.

Fay then grabbed a box containing clothes and other things Azumi would need for spending time over at another place. She handed it to Gabriel who walked outside with it, placed it down on the front porch, and waved at the carriage.

They carriage slowed down when they got to the small wooden gate surrounding the small wooden house that Azumi lived in with her parents. There were three people in that carriage. Tifa, grandma Ashley, and grandpa Lorm.

Tifa jumped out and ran towards Azumi and picked her up and squeezed her tightly in a bear hug. "Look how big you've gotten in the past year!" said Tifa. Azumi giggled and hugged Tifa back.

"Welcome, mom." said Fay. Gabriel gave her a hug and said, "Please take good care of her." Azumi was next to Fay and had her luggage ready to go alongside her. Azumi excitedly said, "Bye bye mommy. Daddy. Get home soon!"

Azumi waved goodbye as her parents headed for the city of Ryflain which was where the ship that was headed for the ruins was stationed.

Tifa picked up Azumi and put her in the carriage she arrived in. The horses that had pulled the carriage where then starting to move. "Let's get going now." said Ashley. Everyone got in and were ready to depart.

[1 Year later]

"What?! No, no, no, no! Fay and Gabriel are..." Ashley cried after reading a letter that was delivered to her minutes ago.

Her husband Lorm walked into the room and tried to comfort his wife. Azumi overheard everything in the letter since Lorm read it aloud so that Tifa could hear.

"Oh shit. Azumi..." said Tifa who was worried about how Azumi would fare with the news. Azumi went back to her room on the second floor and sat there, dead eyed, in a daze. This is what the letter contained;

[Dear Ashley, we have regretfully received news that the ship that had your daughter and her husband, was attacked by a Water Draco Serpent. I know this will be a harsh time for you and Miss Fay's daughter. So we will leave your family alone for a good amount of time to allow you to mourn your losses. As I am the owner of the guild, I shall say this. They died an honorable death, m'lady. I will write again in three months. Once again, I'm sorry.

The letter was burned by Lorm and they all sat at the table, in pure silence. The funeral was held one week later.

Almost nobody showed up since all of Fay's friends had been on business trips or had already died during adventuring or due to health problems such as cardiac arrest or simple poisoning.

Everyone was worried about Azumi since she hasn't spoken much since that fateful day.

After the service had finished, everyone went back home.

Tifa had left after the funeral to return to her own village in another kingdom. And as this all was happening, something else was stirring in in the kingdom of Heilan on the Human Continent.
