A Culinary Quest

"DING DING DING" Vent said pretending to be a bell

"Vent, are you imitating bell noises again" Jakey asked

"Yeah, here you go ma'am" He said to a woman

"So, what you doing after this, you can come to the "world again" Jakey asked

"Well, I really don't know maybe I'll come" Vent said dishing plates

"Yo, Vent stop talking and help me slide these dishes down, man" Rufe said

"Sorry, man" Vent said

"Move" Rufe said to Vent

"Jeez what's his problem" Jakey laughed

"I don't know he's always like that, I mean he's cool but yeah" Vent said smiling at a lady grabbing her plate

"Alright, Jakey I'll be there" Vent said pouring a coffee

"Great, I'll be looking forward, girls will be there too" Jakey said leaving

"Huh, cool Jakey cool" Vent said

Vent turned around to see a mad Rufe with his arms crossed

"Sorry man, uhm di-

"What are you two talking about" Rufe asked

"Something that we are planning to do" Vent said marking down an order

"Really, I bet all it involves is a bunch a shouting idiots and beers" Rufe said grabbing ketchup

"Huh, I bet so too" Vent said 

"What do you want to do" Rufe said

"What do you mean?" Vent asked

"Though you stand around and talk with that weird guy who seems to have peeked, you're a good cook I won't lie to you there" Rufe says going to the back to get an order

"I am" Vent said confused putting his back against the counter

"You are a great cook is what I am trying to say you need to get out of here, make a name for yourself I don't know, I'm 27 years old, you're 22 you have time" Rufe said leaning against the counter

"I mean you still have time too, Rufe" Vent said

"Yes I know I would prefer the time you have though, you should try Culinary School" Rufe said

"I should?" Vent said

"Only the best get in, in one that I know of, -Yes ma'am your dish" Rufe said

Vent thought to himself, he'd always want to become a chef a great one too and he did here many people comment on his dishes, he just never believed it

"Thinking about it, now aren't ya" Rufe said putting a rag down

"While you think about it, grab all those dirty dishes" Rufe said 

-6:55, 5 minutes till closing

"Hey uh, Rufe" Vent said

"Earlier you said something about a school where only the best can make it" He asked

"Do you think I could make it by any chance?" Vent asked

"Do you think you can make it, is what really matters" Rufe said

"Well can you at least tell me the name of the school, please" Vent asked

"Look" Rufe said taking his phone out

"Jeez it's huge, wait the legendary chef Arbor Sallvie attended this school" Vent says

"Yeah, all types of legendary chefs from all over the world, crazy thing is only five people are picked from 200 students, that they'll accept and then they still face off from there" Rufe said

"Damn, me doing all of this, seems a little strange" Vent said

"Well it's all up to you" Rufe said putting his phone back in his pocket

"It's nearly 7:30, Vent don't you have a what ever it is to attend" Rufe said. 

"You going close shop" Vent asked

"Well I mean I am the owner, soo I'd think soo" Rufe said

"Ha, figures" 

Vent walked outside starring away at the huge university

"I never really payed attention to that building I guess I didn't have dreams during then" Vent said 

"Looking at the building, are we" Rufe asked

"Yep ya caught me" Vent said

"Wanna go see it up close" Rufe asked

"We can do that?" he asked

"We have the ability to so yeah let's go" Rufe said running

-The two guys ran taking about 20 minutes

"Jeez the place doesn't look that far" Vent said breathing hard

"Come on" Rufe said 

Vent looked up at the huge windows and lighting

"The people who go here must be extremely successful or something" Vent said

"Maybe, it is very grand though isn't it" Rufe said touching the building

"Just imagine coming out of here a chef" Vent said

"Shit, I forgot the the- World thingy" Rufe interrupted

"It's not too late you probably could catch it if you run fast enough" Rufe said

"You coming" Vent asked

"Vent I don't attend such events" Rufe said 

-Vent ran very fast

"An ambulance" he said

"Jakey what i- BRO YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT A MAN HERE GOT MAD AT ANOTHER GUY I DON'T KNOW WHY BUT THERE WAS A SHOOTING OVER IT" Jakey said

"Well damn, so it is over I'm assuming" Vent said

"Yeah, where were you anyway" Jakey asked

"I was uh helping close shop we closed a little late" Vent said

"Alright man I'll see you tomorrow I guess" Jakey said hanging up

Vent walked back to his little apartment

"Ring Ring

"Who the hell is calling now, I'm trying to take a shower" Vent said throwing his shirt on the ground

"Hello

"Fuck, NaNa what are you doing up so late" Vent asked

"I should be asking you the same, and where were you" NaNa asked

"What d- Oh shit NaNa tell mom and dad I'm sorry I was working late again, I forgot to come for dinner" he said

"Alright, will you come tomorrow, Ven" NaNa asked

"I'll try NaNa, you know I'm a little busy now I have to pay up to keep this little room I got myself" Vent said

"Go to bed NaNa, you have school in the morning remember" Vent said

"I don't have school, it's summer silly" NaNa remarked

"Uhh I forgot, well still you need rest, bye NaNa love u" Vent said

"Love you too Ven bye bye" NaNa said

"Why is the silly little girl still up at 10:54 p. m." Vent says

"Today on Chef or Fail, three constants...  

"Hmm..what's to eat eat eat" Vent says

"Ah, nothing" He smiles

Vent grabs some crackers and a small soda while watching his favorite show

"Oh that reminds me, the university" he says taking his phone out

"Visits for enrolling open now, if interested come at your own discretion, only enroll to get in" Vent reads

"Ends in two weeks, huh I guess I have time then" Vent says scrolling

"Meet the alma mater, Shawney Covington, Delly Volace.... Kaya Gratoa, Woah Mikey Oley,.... WHAT!!!" Vent says surprised

"Rufe went here, and he didn't even bother telling me, what a mysterious man" Vent said

-8:45 next morning

Vent gets ready for work

"I can't believe it, such a prestigious school and he didn't even bother telling me" Vent said

Vent walked in the Diner and threw his apron on and made a bee line to the back

"Rufe, you is that why you took me to that school yesterday" Vent asked

"Vent what the hell you on about now" Rufe asked washing potatoes

"You, you are an alma mater at Plate Haven" Vent said

"Shit, how'd" Rufe dropped the potato in the sink

"Vent how'd you find that out I thought I told them to have no trace of me" Rude said

"Shit, of course they don't listen" Rufe said

"Yeah okay and why'd you hide, why didn't you tell me" Vent said

"I don't know Vent I didn't want you getting all upset and making a huge deal out of it" Rufe said

"I decided to stay silent because I don't want such a big life of a chef, but someone like you is different" Rufe said 

"Here take this out" Rufe said giving Vent five plates

"How would I get upset, because of something you did" Vent said

-A man in a suit with silky black hair walked in 

"Hello, Sir what would you like" Vent said

"The hell is taking vent so lo- 

"Hey wait a minute" Rufe said running over to the table

"Ruffian Foulley, it's nice to see you again" the man said shaking Rufe's hand

"This kid was just getting my order, you run a nice shop here" The man said

"Thank you, Mr. Revelli" Rufe said

"Wait, if it's not rude may I ask who you are" Vent asked

"I'm one of the people in charge of Plate of Haven Institute" Vent said

"Woah would you by any chance be sc-

"interested in a dessert special with your breakfast, Sir" Rufe said cutting off Vent and motioning for him to leave

"Sure, I'd love to try your dessert special" Mr. Revelli said

"Alright, Vent here will fix you both of your dishes" Rufe said grabbing Vent and leaving with him

"Yo, Rufe what'd you cut me off for" Vent asked

"You dont get it, don't ask him obvious questions, of course he's probably looking to scout you, they don't want some desperate idiot, Vent" Rufe said

"Shit, I didn't know it was this deep" Vent said

"Get started on his dish let him critique you on that" Rufe said cracking eggs

"Are you serious me, can't you make it you're like a world class chef" Vent said

"No I told him you, now get to work, there's no other way in Plate of Haven, Vent" Rufe said throwing him a knife
