Battle Of Shiganshina

Year 849

"I entrust everything to Eren.... My dreams.... My life.... Everything!! I'm sure... Eren... Eren will reach the sea! He'll look at the sea... For me!"—Armin Arlet

——————————————

The quiet evening sky seemed to press down on them as Floch Foster's voice, strained with urgency, pierced the silence. "Captain... Levi... I finally found you..." He struggled to keep steady, barely making it up the crumbling house, lifting Commander Erwin on his back.

The commander's body was limp, his blood soaking from his pierced clothes. "He's in bad shape... His stomach... it's gouged out, and his internal organs... they're badly damaged... The bleeding won't stop."

Floch's desperate words echoed in the air, as if the very earth beneath them was holding its breath, waiting for a decision that could change everything. His gaze locked onto Levi, pleading silently for an answer. "I thought... the injection... it'd save him... right?"

Levi's bloodied hands midway of handing Eren the small, metallic black box. Inside the box lay the answer to saving a life—but whose? Eren's fingers hovered over it, the choice pulling at his soul.

He could feel Armin's lifeless body behind him, burned nearly beyond recognition after his heroic stand against the Colossal Titan. Bertholdt had been captured, but at what cost?

Levi's voice, calm but unyielding, cut through the moment as he retracted the box slowly placing Erwin on the roof. His fingers floating over his bloodied nose checking for any signs of life. "He's breathing... He's alive..."

Levi's gaze shifted at Eren who in deep shock knowing what was gonna happen next,"It's decided then..." His firm grip tightened on the metallic box, "Sorry, Eren... But Erwin gets the shot."

Eren's eyes widened in disbelief, his gaze locking onto Levi's. "But you said you'd use it on Armin..." His words trembled in the thickening dusk, disbelief and grief clouding his mind.

Levi's sapphire eyes bore into him, as cold and resolute as the evening wind that swept over them. "That was when Erwin wasn't here... Erwin's here and that's all that matters" His voice was flat, unshaken, the finality of his decision echoing in the darkening sky.

Behind them, Mikasa's grip tightened, tears clinging to her lashes as the wind teased her hair. Her movements were silent, but the soft metallic rasp of her blade being drawn spoke louder than any words. She stepped forward, her presence a warning.

"You two... do you have the faintest damn clue what you're doing?" Levi's voice cut through again, sharp as steel. His eyes flicked between Eren and Mikasa.

"This is Erwin we're talking about... the commander of the Scout Regiment..." His tone carried the weight of authority, but the desperation in the air, the battle between duty and heart, was suffocating.

The air crackled with tension, the weight of the decision heavy on all of them. Levi's voice, cold and commanding, cut through the standoff like a blade. "Get out of my way... Eren. We don't have enough time." he growled, but before he could take another step, Eren's hand shot out, instinctively grabbing the box.

"Hngh..."

Levi reacted in a flash, his fist connecting with Eren's jaw, the impact sending him sprawling with a brutal thud. The sound of the punch echoed in the stillness of the evening, as Eren's body landed on the demolished rooftop.

But Levi had no time to follow up. In a blur of motion, Mikasa, fueled by rage, leaped at him, her hand clutching his throat as she forced him down. The cold steel of her blade pressed against his neck, trembling.

"Stop it, Mikasa!" Floch yelled, his voice cracking in panic, but she only tightened her grip, her eyes blazing with a terrifying mix of anger and desperation.

"Shut up!" she snapped, her focus fixed entirely on the injection in Levi's hand. She reached for it, her fingers brushing against it as she tried to wrest it free.

Levi, breathing heavily, struggled beneath her, but his strength was nearly spent after the brutal fight with the Beast Titan. "You two... know damn well that without Erwin... we can't save humanity. Without his leadership... we can't fight the Titans..." His words were labored, yet determined.

"That's the same with Armin, Captain." Eren's voice, raw and hoarse, broke through as he slowly pushed himself to his feet, wincing from the pain.

"He's the saviour of humanity. He was the one who came up with the plan to plug Trost with the boulder... He's the only one who figured out Annie's identity, who helped us uncover Reiner's hiding spot, and the only reason we defeated Bertholdt... He's the one who can save humanity! Not me! Not the commander—it's Armin!"

Eren's words hung in the air, heavy with emotion. His eyes were wild, filled with determination and grief as he faced Levi.

"You're wrong... The only one who can save humanity is Erwin," Floch muttered through gritted teeth,as Levi's gaze shifted at him, still resisting Mikasa's grip. But the truth weighed on all of them, and it was impossible to ignore.

"Shut up..." Mikasa once again shouted.

Floch, standing off to the side, his voice shaky yet resolute, suddenly cut through the argument. "And why should I. Don't think you're the only one who have been through a lot!!"

His voice faltered, pointing at the distant Wall Maria, its looming shadow stretching across the district," You two have no idea... on the other side of that wall, there's not a single person left alive... Everyone was crushed by the boulders the Beast Titan threw at us. The only exception was me and this bastard... Erwin's the reason everyone died..."

Floch's voice took on a twisted tone, a manic smile curling at the edges of his bruised lips as he relived the nightmare. "When I found him... breathing... barely hanging on... I wanted to kill him right there... but that would've been too easy, too kind."

He paused, his eyes wide with a crazed intensity. "Death would've been a gift from him... He ought to taste more of this hell... And that's when I realized my task.... To kill titans we need a devil like him ... And no matter what happens, I'll bring that devil back to life... So get out of my way!!"

With a fierce shout, Floch stepped forward, determined to push Mikasa aside. Her muscles tensed, and in a split second, she raised her blade, ready to cut him down.

"Hngh..." Mikasa grunted, the tension about to snap like a taut string.

"DON'T DO IT!" Levi shouted his voice desperate.

Just as the situation seemed ready to explode, Hange burst into the fray, grabbing Mikasa from behind, locking her arms in place, and pulling her away from the chaos.

"Stop it... Mikasa!" Hange's voice cracked as she fought to keep Mikasa restrained. Mikasa, however, was consumed by her selfishness, pushing back against her with desperate strength. Levi, seeing an opening, pulled out the injection, ready to bring Erwin back.

"ARGHHHH!" Mikasa screamed in frustration, trying to break free from Hange's grip, her body trembling with fury. But Hange held firm, her voice filled with urgency. "Mikasa... this is Erwin we're talking about. We can't lose him..."

Hange's words fell on deaf ears as Mikasa's rage overwhelmed her reason. She finally overpowered Hange, shoving her away and rising to her feet, her blade gleaming in the fading evening light. But before she could strike, Eren was there, gripping her wrist tightly.

"Eren?" she whispered, startled by his sudden touch.

Eren's face twisted with a storm of emotions, his hand still holding hers as he slowly pulled her behind without saying a word. His eyes burned with anger and defiance. "Fuck it all..." he muttered, stepping forward. "I don't care anymore."

With a furious shout, Eren raised his hand to his mouth, teeth bared, ready to transform. "I'm done convincing you guys... Armin gets the shot... even if I have to kill you all! I took out Bertholdt, so I'm the one who gets to decide."

"OI, DON'T!" Levi yelled, panic flashing in his voice, but it was too late.

Eren was about to bite down when a sudden blow knocked him sideways. "Ugh!!" he grunted, collapsing right there as Jean stood over him, panting heavily. Jean's face was pale but determined—he knew if Eren transformed now, the explosion would kill them all.

"Hey, why wou—" Mikasa shouted, but before she could move, Hange struck her with the hilt of her sword, a precise blow to the neck. Mikasa's body went limp, falling beside Eren, unconscious.

"Ar...min..." Eren whispered, struggling to lift his hand as the world around him spun in a dizzy haze. His fingers twitched, trying to reach out, but his strength was fading fast.

"Sorry, Eren..." Hange's voice was soft as she knelt beside him, her gaze full of sadness. "You'll understand. I know how you feel... but we can't lose Erwin.... No matter what."

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows over the rooftop as the chaos finally quieted, leaving only the sound of their ragged breaths in the cold evening air.

"Sorry, Armin..." Eren's voice cracked, barely a whisper, as his body gave in, fainting under the weight of exhaustion and heartbreak. The last remnants of strength ebbed away, and he lay still, eyes glazed over, succumbing to the cruelty of the world.

"I wasn't able to save you.... Old friend..."
