The Battle Of Gaia Part 3

POV Spartan 001 Gage

I was stationed at a defensive fortification with 002 Jenny. We were co-located with many droids. Our job was to defend FOB 2 for as long as we could.

001: "Jenny how are you on ammo?"

002: "I still got 30% left. How about you?"

001: "24%. We will need to vacate this position soon. The Covenant will overwhelm this position in a few minutes."

002: "I think we can hold this position for a bit longer."

001: "Negative we should leave in the next couple of minutes."

002: "Yes captain."

We continued fighting for a bit but the Covenant forces started to destroy most of the droid forces with us.

001: "This is Spartan 001, we are retreating from defensive position 4 to position 5."

Snake: "Copy that. You will have 70 seconds to retreat from your current position before defenses are activated. Good luck."

001: "Activate the auto attack on the EWHB-12. Then follow me."

002: "Got it!"

We run from our last positions while the gun auto-fires on the enemy. As we get into our new positions I hear a massive explosion. I look to our last position and see a massive debris cloud.

001: "Good thing we got out in time."

002: "Yeah no kidding."

I activated the EWHB-12 that was placed here then I made a B1 operate it while we refilled our ammo and prepared for the enemy to attack our position.

POV Tex

B1: "The Assualt Carrier is down!"

Tex: "Excellent ensure the Hypervelocity cannons retarget correctly."

B1: "FOB 1 has fallen and FOB2 has been pushed to the second to last defense line."

Tex: "Unfortunate but expected. Did FOB 1 evacuate in time?"

B1: "Yes sir. They are repositioning at FOB 4 as per the plan."

Tex: "How many starfighters do we have left?"

B1: "We have 1038 Vulture Droids and 549 Trifighters. Further Green Leader is requesting to dock at the nearest Mid-Line ship."

Tex: "Grant it."

'Hmm, we are losing more ships than preferred. Now we have to hope the enemy follows predicted patterns and once the Hypervelocity cannons are destroyed they will send in the Super Carrier.'

POV Spartan 001 Gage

An explosion goes off and I am thrown from my position. I am discombobulated but I feel someone grab me and drag me to safety. Once I regain my senses, I see Jenny had dragged me to safety.

002: "You still with me captain?"

001: "Yeah I'm good. What happened?"

002: "A Suicide Grunt was thrown at our position. They were practically covered in Plasma Grenades. We were thankfully on the edge of the blast radius so you were thrown while I was knocked over. Now we need to get moving. This position is going to fall any second now."

001: "Got it, let's move."

We move to defensive line 6, and I call in our retreat. We make it to our position, but we have almost no time to get ready before the enemy arrives. I use the EWHB-12 and start firing at everything that moves. As we are fighting, 002 takes a nasty hit to the shoulder.

001: "Jenny! Are you alright?"

002: "I can keep going captain. I'm not done yet."

As we are fighting I have to abandon the cannon as we retreat into a building. As I enter the building I hear an alert over the base alert system.

Base: "All hands evacuate the base. I repeat All hands evacuate the base. The evacuation point will be open for 12 minutes. I repeat The evacuation point will be open for 12 minutes."

002: "Well looks like it's time to go."

BOOM

I look to the blast and see a large group of Elites.

001: "It looks like this is where we make a stand."

002: "Let's do this."

Both: "For the Emperor!"

We open fire and take as many as we can while slowly backing off from our position. Another explosion goes off and we are thrown into a wall.

002: "Come on captain we can do this!"

001: "Let's make the end memorable!"

We fight as hard as we can but eventually, Jenny's shields fail and she is killed. I throw down grenades and take her body to a closed-off room. Her body vanishes and I breathe a sigh of relief.

Snake: "Captain where are you?"

001: "I have been pinned down in sector 15. I won't be able to make it to the Evac point."

Snake: "Negative we can swing around and pick you up."

001: "Don't worry about me. I will make my own way home. I promise. Now go!"

POV Snake

006: "Where is Gage?"

Snake: "He is doing what a soldier does. Sacrificing himself for the lives of others."

006 looks saddened by those words but starts to fly the Quinjet out of the secret hangar and away from the base.

POV Spartan 001 Gage

The door that was keeping the enemy out was blasted apart. I grabbed 2 DC-15s and started rapid firing into the enemy.

001: "Suck laser!"

One of my guns was shot out of my hand but I wouldn't stop firing. Eventually, I ran out of ammo and I was knocked to the ground. As I was on the ground I saw several Elites rushing at me with Energy Swords. I kicked one in the head allowing me to grab the sword and stab it into another attacker. I punched another Elite in the face grabbed a plasma grenade and threw it at an Elite with a gun. The blast threw me away and I was able to see my HUD say I had broken my left arm and left leg. The screen was cracked in several places which made me remove it so I could see the enemy better. I knew I wasn't going to be able to keep fighting. I saw several Elites get closer and I knew it was time for the final hurrah.

001: "Sorry but I am a Spartan and as such I won't be captured by you."

I grabbed a detonator I had attached to my waist and I pressed the button.

POV Snake

BOOOOOOOM

I look from the window of the Quinjet at the massive explosion from Sector 15.

Snake: "I will wait for your return soldier."

006: "We will arrive at FOB 4 in 14 minutes."

Snake: "Understood. Don't take any chances. If an enemy vessel approaches just avoid them and take a different route."

'I hope we diminished the enemy forces enough for the remaining FOBs to survive. We should have. Or at least I think so.'

POV Oorchimaru Shadow Clone

I emerge from the wall and check the position of the Stealth Quinjet before I activate the detonation.

Bang Bang BANG!

'They are already here I need to hurry.'

I activate the terminal and start the overloading process. I then time it so my Explosive tags go off with the explosion.

POV Tex

I look as FOB 2 overloads and explodes taking most of the remaining enemy forces with it.

'Now begins phase 2.'

Rio: "It's here."

I look out the viewport and see a massive vessel come out of a Slip Space gate.

'Seeing the data and seeing it in person is truly different. We are very lucky that we are facing a greatly weakened Covenant. A nation capable of creating such massive vessels would be very difficult to defeat.'

Tex: "Have our starfighters pull further away from the enemy's forward line."

B1: "Roger Roger."

We wait for a bit and I see the enemy's ground forces are the first to deploy. After them are the starfighters. The ground forces escape the targeted range but most of the starfighters don't.

Rio: "Dropping warheads in 5 seconds."

Tex: "All ships activate EMP defenses."

I look out the viewport as over 30k Gates are opened and dropped in the enemy's midline.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

A blinding light is emitted from over 30k warheads detonating at once.

Tex: "Operation Uppercut is a go. Send updated info to the Sucide Fleet. Lastly are the lanterns ready to assist?"

B1: "Sending info now. Blue and Green Lantern will be ready in 6 minutes."

Tex: "Send them the coordinates we need them at. How many enemy vessels are left?"

B1: "Interference is making it difficult to tell but we are counting 127 Vessels. 98 in the Forward line the rest are part of the rear line."

'We have lost 106 Dreadnoughts and we are unlikely to have any left at the current rate we are losing them. We just have to hold on until Operation Uppercut succeeds. FOB 3 is expected to last for only 1 and a half hours more. FOB 4 should theoretically last longer.'

I start repositioning our ships to better focus our firepower on the remaining 4 ORS Heavy Cruisers. I also recalculate our odds of victory.

'91% if Operation Uppercut succeeds. 48% if it fails.'
