Chapter 76. I Will Become a Mage!

Since he couldn't accept the mission just yet, Noah decided to wrap up what was left unfinished. Out of the ten summoned glowing orbs, he had already opened them all except for one chest obtained after ten consecutive summons.

He reached out and pressed the chest.

[Essence acquired: 2500]

As always, the white orb brought an abundance of essence. He was delighted by this chest—each time it replenished his essence reserves, bringing him closer to the next summoning.

Aside from the white essence orb, two more blue glowing orbs emerged from the chest.

"Three orbs? Last time, there were only two."

The chest didn't always give the same number of glowing orbs. He remembered that during his second summoning, he had also received three orbs—it was pure luck.

[Random skin shard x1] [Sapphire Crystal]

"A shard and equipment."

As the last two glowing orbs dissolved, the summoning was complete.

"Time to sort this out."

With the items in hand, Noah decided to organize them: open, synthesize, and upgrade.

"First, let's handle the equipment."

Spreading out the items in front of him, he began to plan synthesis formulas.

He had two Needlessly Large Rods, a Blasting Wand, an Amplifying Tome, a Life Pendant, a Stopwatch, Cloth Armor, the Dark Seal, a Sapphire Crystal, and a Ruby Crystal. The two rods could be combined into Rabadon's Deathcap. As for the rest...

"I'll need to test the Dark Seal. Tonight, I'll head to Hell's Kitchen and find a couple of criminals for a test." Glancing at the magical ring on his finger, Noah planned to test it soon.

"Hmm... Blasting Wand, Amplifying Tome, Sapphire and Ruby Crystal... Seems I can craft Rod of Ages. Or make Riftmaker."

He needed a staff right now. What kind of mage would he be without one? He had two options: the Rod of Ages or the Riftmaker. Equipment from the game, when brought into the real world, gained unique abilities, and he had no idea how these two staffs would manifest.

He faced a difficult decision. The Rod of Ages, as the name suggested, manipulated time, possibly aligning with what he had bragged about to Nick Fury. The Riftmaker, on the other hand, was tied to the Void. Noah recalled that in one of League of Legends' stories, this item was created by the people of Icathia in their fight against Ancient Shurima to open a portal to the Void.

"I'll create the Riftmaker, especially since I don't yet know how to access the Void," he decided. "Also, I wonder how crafting a mythical item differs from regular equipment."

Noah habitually combined a few components together. Usually, this was enough for the system to automatically convert them into equipment. But this time, nothing happened, leaving him puzzled.

"Huh? What's going on? Why can't I synthesize it?" He picked up the Sapphire and Ruby Crystals. These two items were supposed to merge into a Fiendish Codex first and then combine into the Riftmaker.

As soon as he held these crystals, his right violet gauntlet began to emit purple energy that enveloped the Ruby Crystal.

He immediately understood what was happening. The creation of the Riftmaker required the power of the Void, and Kassadin's gauntlet, which he wore, contained just that energy. Noah quickly placed the Sapphire Crystal in his left hand.

Both crystals became enveloped in Void energy at the same time, their shapes changed, and an uneven purple gem appeared in his hands.

"This should work now."

He placed the gem between the Blasting Wand and the Amplifying Tome. This time, the three items glowed, emitting the familiar sound of hammer strikes.

"Is the system keeping Ornn captive and forcing him to forge equipment?"

Every time Noah heard that pleasant hammering sound, he thought of Ornn. If he ever summoned him, Ornn could forge equipment on his own.

As the hammering sound faded, signaling the equipment was complete, the light gradually dissipated. Once the glow subsided, the Riftmaker stood before him.

The first thing that caught his eye was the purple eye socket at the top of the staff. It seemed as if this eye had been ripped straight from a Watcher and embedded in the staff. The eye was surrounded by a golden framework, and the staff itself was a purple-black hue, as if made from the carapace of some Void creature.

"Whirr~~Whirr~"

As soon as the staff emerged, before Noah could take hold of it, purple energy rings began to spread from it. He raised his hand to shield himself from the pulses and suddenly felt the ground beneath him start to tremble.

"Is it trying to open a Void rift?"

With that thought, he quickly raised his hand, and his gauntlet glowed violet. Using the Riftwalk ability, he teleported next to the Riftmaker and grabbed it.

Fortunately, as soon as he took hold of the staff, the energy rings ceased spreading, and the ground stopped shaking.

"Lissandra, what's happening outside?" Noah asked with concern, barely containing the staff. He was afraid that a rift had already opened.

"Noah, there's been an earthquake with a magnitude of about 4.0 within a kilometer of the mansion."

"Damn, you're not a Riftmaker, you're an earthquake generator!" he thought, then clarified: "Are there any strange rifts emitting purple light nearby?"

"No, nothing like that has appeared," Lissandra replied.

"Good," Noah sighed in relief. He wasn't ready for a Void portal to open right next to his house.

After checking the situation, he looked at the staff in his hands. The large purple eye at the top stared at him. He felt the power emanating from the staff and realized it was the same energy contained in Kassadin's gauntlet—the power of the Void.

However, he suddenly noticed something strange: the Void energy didn't seem to affect him. Neither the gauntlet nor the Riftmaker harmed him, even when he touched and interacted with them. In contrast, in the lore, even the powerful Ascended exposed to the Void would lose their sanity and become Darkin.

"Maybe it's because these items are created by the system?" he wondered, searching for an explanation. Perhaps it was due to the protection offered by the Resolve Rune. Whatever the reason, he knew one thing: until he learned to fully control the power of the Void, he needed to be cautious not to endanger Lissandra and Gwen.

"Okay, time to work on the hat."

For now, Noah decided to put off experiments with the staff's power and focus on creating the next item.

Placing the two purple magical rods together, he once again heard the familiar hammering sound and saw the glow as when he crafted the Riftmaker. The light faded, and before him appeared the Rabadon's Deathcap.

The hat was made of smooth, silky material. The most striking feature was the large maw at the top, emitting a blue magical glow. Noah's eyes sparkled with excitement—it looked incredibly impressive, and he loved it.

He reached out to pick up the hat and try it on. But something unexpected happened: as soon as his hand approached, the Rabadon's Deathcap seemed to move back slightly.

"What?"

Noah blinked a few times. Did the hat just move? No, he couldn't have been mistaken.

He tried again to touch the purple hat, but this time, it shot into the air. Its maw at the top opened and closed as if in silent laughter.

"Does this hat have a mind of its own?!" he exclaimed in surprise, watching as the enchanted hat hovered in the air. He couldn't help but think of Doctor Strange's Cloak of Levitation. It seemed that the Rabadon's Deathcap, like the cloak, had its own will.

"What should I do now?" he wondered how to handle the situation and decided to try reasoning with the hat.

"Hey, hat, come down and let me try you on. Rabadon's Deathcap? Hat?" he called, feeling awkward talking to an item. But his words had no effect—the hat kept floating in the air.

"Looks like I'll have to use force," he decided to take a firmer approach. He concentrated his magical energy, trying to pull the hat towards him. But as soon as his magic touched the hat, it stopped and began absorbing his magical power, gripping it with its jaws.

"So, you like magic?" An idea formed in his mind.

He increased the flow of magic, shaping it into a glowing hand that beckoned the hat closer. The hat wavered but then lunged at the hand with its maw wide open.

Under his control, the magical hand moved slightly slower than the hat, allowing it to catch its prey. The hat snapped onto the hand, and at that moment, Noah was able to grab it.
