CHAPTER 65

INES

The faint creak of the door opening shattered the brief sleep I had managed to slip into. The sound was so soft it could have been missed, but not by me—not after everything. After my long, drawn-out conversation with Miles, I had spent the entire night on edge, waiting, hoping, praying that Adan would finally return to his house.

I didn't even go back to my place. I wanted to make absolutely sure he wouldn't have an excuse to avoid me. To cover all bases, I had also instructed one of the security staff to call me the moment Adan showed up at my house. That call never came. It was all the confirmation I needed—he hadn't been there either.

"Don't bother tiptoeing," I snapped, my voice raspy and rough from exhaustion. Pushing myself to my feet, I ignored the throbbing headache that had become a constant companion over the past hours. My glare found him instantly, sharp and unrelenting. "I'm already awake."
