Without waiting for Mrs Bancroft to respond, Madam Quinn leaned back in her chair, her gaze never leaving Mrs. Bancroft as she continued.
"Tell me, how are you any different from Delilah? You paid her to stay away from your son and she respected the agreement and stayed away from your son. You took ten times the amount you gave her, and yet here you are, trying to do what you were paid not to do. I'd like to know why you think you're superior to Delilah when she is actually better than you."
Mrs. Bancroft's eyes widened in shock, her lips trembling. "I... I—" Mrs. Bancroft was speechless, her face pale.
Delilah was equally stunned. She hadn't known that Hunter knew anything about her past or had intervened, much less that Madam Quinn knew all about it.
What was going on? Why would Hunter do that when he was even engaged to Chloe and not her? At what point did he find out about her? Had he known all along just like his grandmother?
