Chapter 167: I Am the Boss

Early the next morning, William was woken up by Abigail, who had gotten up early. Groggy, William lay on his pillow and glanced at his watch, complaining, "Abby, what time is it? Didn't you say you were going to work for me? Why are you up so early?"

Abigail, dressed and ready, kissed William apologetically on the cheek. "I can't, darling. Even if I resign, I need to get through this week. The day after tomorrow is the 66th anniversary of the archive's founding. I have to help the director host the evening event. I'll go to work first. How about you accompany me to try on the dress tonight, dear boss?"

Hearing about trying on the dress, William, still half-awake, perked up immediately. "Hmm, your dress is ready? Where did you order it from? I must check if it fits you properly."

Seeing the smile on William's lips, Abigail knew what he was thinking but didn't mind. With a mysterious smile, she said, "I'm not rich. I could only order a dress from an ordinary private tailor at home. Boss, do you want to personally pick a dress for me?"

"Of course. Wait a moment, I'll make a call. What brand do you like?" William put on his robe and grabbed his phone to call the private client manager at Swiss National Bank.

"Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Dior, Burberry—whatever you like, you can choose."

"Really?" Abigail gasped softly with each luxury brand William mentioned. By the time he said she could choose any brand she liked, she was thrilled. "Oh my god, which one should I pick? Oh my god, William, I seem to like them all. What should I do, darling?"

"Haha, it's simple." William, connecting with the client manager, directly instructed, "Good morning, Felix. I need the latest women's dresses, jewelry, and handbags from Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Gucci, Dior, Burberry. Can you arrange it?"

"Good morning, Mr. Devonshire. You don't need to ask if I can do it. Just tell me where you are, and I guarantee that within half an hour, the managers of these brands' stores will personally come to serve you. Sir, you're a top 100 global billionaire; any luxury brand will treat you like a god."

"Hehe," William chuckled, hearing for the first time that he could rank among the world's top 100 wealthy individuals. It put him in a great mood. "Haha, thank you, Felix. Have them come to the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington D.C., presidential suite."

"Understood, sir. Please wait for half an hour."

William and Abigail hadn't finished breakfast when there was a knock on the door. The suite's exclusive butler walked in and reported, "Sorry to disturb you, Mr. Devonshire. The people you were expecting have arrived. They're waiting outside. Would you like to meet them now or wait a bit longer?"

Abigail, already distracted from breakfast, cheered, "I'm done eating, darling. You continue eating. I'll go to the living room to have a look."

She walked over, kissed William, and looked at him expectantly.

William sighed internally. Oh, women. They have no self-control when it comes to luxury goods and jewelry. Resignedly, he said to the eager Abigail, "Alright, go ahead. Don't worry about me. Remember to call your assistant, Ms. Joplin, so she doesn't worry about you."

"Okay, no problem, boss." Abigail happily followed the butler out of the dining room to meet the luxury brand managers.

After finishing breakfast, William walked into the living room and spent several hours with Abigail, choosing dresses and jewelry. They finally selected a Burberry dress, along with a necklace and earrings.

In a good mood after lunch, William accompanied Abigail to her office. As soon as they entered, Ms. Joplin smiled and congratulated William, making Abigail a little embarrassed.

Once they were seated, Ms. Joplin handed Abigail a small gift box. "This arrived this morning. I checked the note; it's from Mr. Gates."

Abigail curiously picked up the gift box. Seeing that William wasn't upset, she sighed with relief. To avoid suspicion, Abigail directly said to Ms. Joplin, "Please return it for me, Ms. Joplin."

Ms. Joplin was surprised, looking at Abigail. When Abigail gave her a meaningful look and glanced at William, she was even more surprised.

She knew Abigail wasn't lacking suitors, but she couldn't understand why, after just one night, Abigail was so cautious, refusing to accept gifts from other men.

William knew why Bill Gates sent this gift. He didn't want any accidents. "It's alright, Abby. Open it. I'm not that petty."

Abigail, pleased, kissed William, "Thank you, darling."

Opening the box, she found the founding commemorative coin she had been looking for. This completed her collection, making her delighted as she admired the coin.

Seeing the coin, William felt relieved. He knew why Gates sent it.

The coin had been coated with a special solution. When touched, the solution would make fingerprints more easily transferred to items it contacted. Using iodine vapor on smooth surfaces like glass would easily extract fingerprints.

Certain Gates would steal the Declaration of Independence, William chatted with Abigail for a while before checking his watch. It was almost 2 PM, so he excused himself, saying he didn't want to disturb her work.

Leaving the archive, he called John Wick. "John, what are Gates and Riley doing now?"

"One is at home preparing the solution, and the other is installing surveillance and hacking equipment in the metro near the archive. They've taken control of all the archive's surveillance," John Wick said, comfortably lounging in a small truck.

This task was simple for him. A phone call got him all the surveillance equipment. After receiving it at 2 AM, John Wick snuck into Gates and Riley's place, planted trackers and bugs in their shoes, watches, and phones, wiped away all traces, and left silently.

"How can you know what both are doing at the same time? Did you find someone else to help you?" Thinking this was possible, William quickly asked.

John Wick adjusted himself, laughing, "Relax, I'm not that stupid. Haven't you heard of surveillance cameras?"

Hearing this, William relaxed and chuckled, "So, you're monitoring their every move. Got visuals?"

"Only at Gates' house, the rest is audio only."

"Get me a set of equipment. I want to listen in on Gates and Riley too."

"Sorry, I can't leave right now. I'll give you a number. Pay them, and they'll get you whatever you need, though it's a bit pricey."

John Wick was lounging comfortably. He was an expert, not an errand boy to buy stuff for his employer. He had no time for such trivialities.

But William wasn't easy to deal with either. "Don't forget, I'm your boss now. Double the price, deliver it to XX Street. I'll be waiting there. Thanks, John." Money wasn't an issue for William.

After a few seconds of silence on the line, "Alright, you're the boss. No need for double. I'll have someone deliver the equipment to XX Street. You pick it up, boss."
