Hilltop Without Alternatives

Paul Rovia, known mostly as Jesus, was a survivor of the zombie apocalypse and a resident of Hilltop. Within his community, Paul received the role of ambassador and was in charge of finding other survivor communities and establishing trade routes with them for exchanging goods and benefits.

Everything was perfect; they had many groups of communities with whom they traded resources, but everything went wrong when a new group known as The Saviors demanded half of what they acquired in a month.

The worst part was that if they didn't cooperate, the Saviors would kill many of the people here. Everyone wanted to resist, or at least that's what they intended, but when it came to the fight, many were terrified.

Jesus, who had been warned that the Saviors were coming, called everyone to prepare, but as soon as he saw what was outside, he completely doubted their chances.

"Are those machine guns?"

"Nobody fires a single shot; if we do, they'll turn us into sieves." Jesus was focused on keeping everyone calm; if someone panicked and fired by mistake, they would surely be killed.

"I have no weapons; if any of you shoot now, you will be wiped out by my men, who don't want any trouble."

When Jesus heard this, he came out from behind the huge wooden gate and asked, "Then what are you doing here?"

"Saving your lives."

Jesus walked slowly, carrying no weapons, which was very considerate to calm the nerves of both sides. "Sorry for this aggressive welcome; we don't usually have visitors, and just yesterday we were threatened."

"We are from the army, trying to restore order, so we are interested in taking you to a safe base in Washington," Dominic said as he approached Jesus, who was confused; didn't the army disband long ago?

"Do you have a question?"

"Why now?" Jesus had doubts about why they were only now receiving help.

Dominic understood this and said, "What happened is that we are at war against the walkers in Canada. To establish a defense line, we have mobilized all the walkers from the north in this direction, so we are taking the survivors before this place becomes a sea of the undead."

"That's…"

"My name is Dominic, General Commander of the New Dawn Unification Association. It would be a pleasure if you would listen to my words," Dominic said, extending his hand to greet Jesus, who was very confused.

"Paul Rovia, everyone calls me Jesus." Jesus's attitude changed to a friendly one upon learning that Dominic's people had taken the trouble to come to this place to take them to a safer location.

"My people are currently in Washington. We have our main base there, but we will expand to Minnesota later to defend that defense line from the Canadian walkers who will be invading us in the coming days," Dominic said, signaling his people to approach.

"If your people were threatened, then you are not safe here. We can offer you a better place." Dominic only wanted to take the most potential people from each community here and get manpower to clean the sites being cleared by his soldiers.

Jesus was about to say something when Gregory came out through the main door, looked at Dominic, and shouted, "I am the leader of this place. Anything you want to discuss with me can be done in my office."

"That's…"

"Then that's fine; let's go to your office." Dominic made Merle follow him, but from the beginning, everyone had their orders.

When they arrived at the office, Gregory said, "I have worked hard to bring this place forward to abandon it on the word of a stranger. I'm not convinced with just words."

"We have cleared Washington of walkers. We need a mayor to lead that place. What do you say? We'll take you there and give you that leadership position." Dominic showed a fake smile, which Jesus noticed, knowing that they shouldn't play with these people.

"That sounds good to me." Gregory didn't expect it to be so easy, but at that moment, Dominic, who was sitting in front of him, looked at Merle, who nodded, took out a silenced pistol, and shot Gregory in the head.

Bang!

Jesus was startled, expecting anything but Dominic ordering Gregory's killing so easily.

"You're in charge now, Jesus. Prepare these people for evacuation. Helicopters will move them from here to Washington. Take light luggage and be ready before sunset."

"Alright…" Jesus had nothing more to say.

"Oh, and lastly, mark on the map the following communities you think I should know about before I leave this place."

"I'll do it right now."
