A Dream House

Ren lay on his bed, and the dim light illuminated the room. The cub curled up beside him had long since drifted to deep slumber.

But for Ren sleep was elusive. It always was on nights like this, where his mind refused to quiet down, and his body ached, though not from any physical strain. It was the kind of ache that came from staying on the bed for hours.

He stared up at the ceiling, his golden eyes reflecting the faint light. Ren exhaled a tired breath. He thought he would be able to drag himself to sleep tonight.

The day's exhaustion was supposed to work like a charm, but here he was, staring at the vague projections of tiny molecules dancing in the vicinity of his eyes.

An odd trick of his mind to calm him as he would chase after those tiny, black... sometimes light dots with his gaze.

Ren sat up with a huff, unable to take the stillness any longer. Slipping out of bed, Ren padded to the kitchen and made himself a cup of coffee.
