Making Enemies

Fan Zhongyang proved himself handily as the top disciple of our squad for the Contest of Knowledge, able to handle the majority of the questions himself. Nan Hong had specialized knowledge in famous battles of both the Mortal Heaven and the more famous battles in other Heavens that those here were still taught about, and cultivators who fought in them. I contributed mostly to questions related to magical beasts—Chen Huan had been a great help to my studying that particular area.

After the written test, there was also a puzzle challenge. We were led to a hall where the staffer said there were 99 puzzle rooms, and we had to solve as many as possible in 2 hours. I had unexpected difficulty standing out in this event, because the puzzles had been encoded in such a way as to make them easy to perceive. Still, by working faster than usual and abandoning any Divine Image puzzles I came across, I solved as many as Fan and Nan combined, with our full total breaking 50.
