"I have said I was sorry," Nephta repeated as they climbed down one of Vexarion's head, who was giving them a lift from the top of the mountain. "I had no idea that I was being followed."
Spheris said nothing, only walking to where he had kept Smallbutter's diary, picking it up and then putting it into his Eternal Satchel.
"Well you can say something you know?" Nephta asked him. "I'm not going to take the silent treatment from you. Are you angry at me."
"The energy for anger is something I do not have, Nephta," Spheris said, though not turning to her. "I'm not angry. I just want to get this done."
Nephta nodded her head, then smacked her lips loud enough for him to hear. "You seemed angry."
Spheris's eyes turned to slits, and he finally turned to address her. "What is that supposed to mean?"
She shrugged. "You killed three men."
"You mean the men that attacked us?"
