Alexi's Reaction

"Alexi?" my cousin questioned me as I stared out into the distance.

I was standing before the ceiling-to-floor glass windows that encased my office, giving me the perfect view of our city. 

Harris Tower was one of the tallest buildings in the city, and my office was at the very top.

"Alexi, you haven't said a word since Taylor came with the news," my cousin tried to shake me, but I ignored her.

"Riley, I don't think—" Jade began to say before I raised my hand telling her to stop.

"If you think for one second that this changes things between me and Lilith, then it's clear that you don't know me," I hissed as I glared at my cousin and her friend.

They might be two of my highest-ranked employees, but they were also family. 

I knew they cared about me, they just cared about my wife a lot more. 

A pregnant silence filled the room as Jade and Riley stood, frozen as if any movement they made might set me off.
