Chapter 116 Spider and Bat (Part 1)_1

In a small alley in Queens, New York, Peter was hiding behind a trash can, with Pikachu crouched on his shoulder, sticking its little head out to look around. He asked, "Are you sure those monsters you mentioned are here?"

"Definitely, I've been following them for a few days, this is one of their small strongholds."

"Okay, what's your plan now?"

"I must wipe them out. Apart from this small base, there are two larger ones on the streets next door."

Pikachu jumped onto the garbage bin, locked eyes with Peter. Pikachu said, "Are you sure you can beat them? If they really are as you said, and there are seven or eight of them, you're at a disadvantage."

"Actually, I'm not sure, but I have to do it." Peter shrugged, his eyes narrowing within his Spider Man mask, then said: "I learned from Gwen that the New York Police Department is hunting these monsters, and many cops have been injured. Their bullets and tear gas are useless against them."

"This must be a quite tough opponent, but I must confront them alone. Since becoming Spider Man, I have never faced any significant adversaries on my own."

"You really don't plan to tell your friends? Aren't you afraid you might encounter dangers or troubles you can't handle?"

"No, this time I'll act on my own." Peter spoke firmly, "I am Spider Man, not someone's sidekick. If I can't get things done without others, how can I still be a hero?"

Then, Peter reached out and ruffled Pikachu's head, saying, "You must promise to keep this a secret."

Pikachu waved his hand, swished his tail and said, "Don't worry, I've got your back, mate. We're the best bros, I'll keep your secret."

The next morning, Pikachu was chomping on a sandwich, which was huge compared to his size. Shiller spread some jam on his slice and asked, "So, what are these monsters? Have you seen them?"

"I didn't, but according to Peter, they seem to suck human blood. And precisely because of that, the police are pursuing them, although it seems they're not doing very well."

"Blood-sucking? Vampire, right?" Shiller thought about the depiction of vampires in Marvel comics, but realized he barely remembered anything. The native vampires of Earth in Marvel do not seem to have any special characteristics, they're just like most legendary vampires; afraid of silver, garlic, holy water, and crosses."

"Do you think Peter can handle it?"

Pikachu swallowed down his sandwich, saying: "With Spider Man's fists and Detective Pikachu's brains, what enemy can't we conquer?"

"That being said, I still feel that Peter may need some help. He is still not fully grown."

"Help? You'd be so kind?" Pikachu glared at Shiller with his round eyes. Shiller chuckled, giving Pikachu the chills. He knew that whenever Shiller bore this kind of smile, someone was about to get into big trouble."

Just then, Steve, who had been on his morning run, arrived at his usual time, saying, "Morning. I should have asked for a breakfast allowance from S.H.I.E.L.D., considering I always eat here."

Shiller didn't mind. He indicated to a chair nearby for Steve to sit down. After all, the western breakfast was self-served. He wouldn't eat much anyways given that he had to warm up the bread and make his own coffee."

Unexpectedly, Agent Coulson, in his suit, also came in. He appeared somewhat flustered and said, "There have been some disturbances in the Queens District lately. Captain, I'll have to work extra hours. I've arranged for another agent to take care of your meals and daily needs. He will come over for the shift this afternoon."

"Don't worry, I'm not an infant. Can't I take care of myself?" Steve took a bite of his sandwich and asked unclearly, "What happened in Queens? I noticed the agents have been quite busy lately. Are you guys dealing with someone?"

Coulson grimaced a smile. He apparently knew something but didn't want to share. Shiller said, "Our friendly neighborhood Spider Man has taken quite a liking to that place recently."

Coulson paused and asked, "Spider Man? What's he doing there?"

"I heard he's been monitoring a group of monsters there and still investigating them. He appears to be intending to carry out this operation on his own."

After Coulson left, he picked up his walkie-talkie and said, "Director, good news. Spider Man plans to go against the vampires in New York all by himself, and he seems to have a well-established operation plan...."

"Yes, I know. They must have something to do with this. Otherwise, how dare Spider Man cook up such a big thing all on his own?"

"True, the Hand Union has also been stirring lately, we're short-staffed. I'll arrange for those two squads from Queens to come back now. After all, if Stark and the Captain are willing to help, even if it's just behind the scenes, those vampires will be taught a lesson."

That night, Spider Man cradled Pikachu, swung through the buildings with a thread of spider silk, tossing over two garbage bags during their run. Chasing them were a group of large bats, their eyes glowing red, their large fangs exposed and making sharp screams from time to time. They looked extremely frightening.

Spider Man shouted while running, "You flying rats! You think you can catch me? Then try!"

After he finished speaking, he sped up, jumped on a tall perimeter wall. The bats whistled past him.

Behind the walls was a dump, where a huge garbage truck was parked. Peter's movement was agile, and he quickly ran to the back of the truck. The piles of garbage here were uneven, not conducive to the bats' flight, they transformed back into their human forms, pale-faced, red-eyed, and with sharp claws on their hands.

Peter and Pikachu were crouching on the side of the garbage truck. Pikachu said, "Listen, you really have to pick your moment. If they catch up, we'll be outnumbered."

"Don't worry, I've never felt my brain so clear." Spider Man said, "Doctor Connors was right, humans need to use their brains more, it's the only way to become smarter."

"Do you think you've become smarter?"

"Of course, my thinking is very clear, you go into the cab of the garbage truck, I'll draw them over, then lead them around, and when they get close to the rear of the truck…"

Soon, the group of vampires saw Peter standing on top of the garbage truck, waving at them while mocking, "Hey! you bunch of stinky flying rats! You're nothing like my rat friends! Do you want me to get you some peanut butter to eat?"

There were about a dozen vampires in the group, they weren't from New York but had recently been transferred. They found the defense here was lax when they arrived, even vampire hunters were absent, so they ate to their heart's content, even drained two young cops.

They were shocked by the weird-looking guy in tights who dared to mock the noble vampire clan. The leading vampire instantly turned into a bat and swooped toward him.

The bat, transformed from a vampire, had a wingspan of approximately two meters. It was tremendous when flying from the air. Peter wasn't afraid at all. He agilely tumbled to one side and jumped off the garbage truck.

The vampires flying over his head didn't think but swooped to the vicinity of the garbage truck. Peter took the advantage of speed. When the bats lunged to the left side of the truck, Peter made a roll to the front. When they lunged to the right side, Peter led them to the rear.

Sure enough, after a few rounds, the bats couldn't hold back. They split up in two ways to encircle Spider Man. Peter was expecting this. Some bats circled from the left while others surrounded from the right. However, Peter quickly rolled to the rear of the truck, where a few bats met all together.

Peter shouted, "Pikachu! Do it!"

After shouting this sentence, he attached a spider silk to a pile of garbage, jumped away quickly. The bats hadn't reacted yet when the rear shield of the garbage truck opened, and the mountain-like piles of garbage instantly buried everyone.

Although these bats were large, the garbage was much larger, and the bats, although they had wings, did not have powerful limbs to struggle, and the ones who did not run when the garbage fell, were buried alive.

Peter took another airborne leap, jumped to the front of the truck, and high-fived Pikachu who had jumped out of the cab. Peter said, "They're probably just lackeys. I heard from Gwen that these monsters should have magic."

Before Peter could pull the vampires out from the garbage pile and beat them up, the sound of police sirens resounded from outside the dumpsite. Evidently, the cops had been watching the area and had now caught up.

Peter jumped onto the hood of the truck and looked over. Pikachu said, "We have to go. Now's not a good time to deal with the cops, after all, you don't look much better than those monsters in your suit."

"I'm doing good deeds!" Peter said.

But after hesitating for a moment, he listened to Pikachu's plan, stuck a spider silk to a building nearby, and quickly left.

In mid-air, Peter excitedly said, "Somehow, I feel today's operation went particularly smoothly."

"Did you see? When they were about to surround me, I might have rushed up in the past and knocked one side down first. I might have really ended up surrounded, but not today. Did you see my cool roll? I gathered them all together in one fell swoop…"

"You do seem a bit different today. You really loved throwing punches in the past, today you actually defeated the enemy by using your brains. I have to say, it's a big improvement. Well done."

Peter swung to the top of a building, put Pikachu down, and then sat on the edge of the rooftop. He was very happy. Peter said, "Now I realize what my friends have been saying is right, only intelligence plus strength can better defeat them. Using brains is not a shameful thing."

"And don't forget the thing Detective Pikachu taught you."

"What?"

"It's reconnaissance and preparation. If you haven't been on a stakeout for the past two days, could you figure out their speed and mobility in the bat form?"

"That's not what you taught me, it's Doctor Schiller. As I see it, the only thing you taught me is that there are good rats and bad rats."

Pikachu turned in a circle, using his tail to whack Peter's shoulder hard. Peter cried out in pain, rubbed his shoulder and said, "What did I say wrong? Aren't you a rat?"

"But they are bats, not rats."

Peter

made a face, holding his shoulder he said, "Speaking of which, it's strange. Where did these monsters come from? Why can they turn into bats and need to drink human blood?"

"Gwen has been worried sick recently because the two cops attacked by the vampires are still in critical condition. She is very worried that her father will also be attacked." Peter lowered his arm and looked into the distance saying, "What's worse, they seem to have a special power that can turn ordinary people into their offspring."

"So, you better be careful. Even though I think your battlesuit has pretty good defense, if you do get scratched, you might turn into a rat."
