The Files Are Gone

Every day should be lived to the utmost because life is a magnificent journey. Life is a wonderful gift, but that doesn't mean you're always prepared to enjoy every moment.

One thing she learned while taking care of her father was money is useful, a commodity that can be exchanged for some basic needs and nice "wants," but it cannot solve all of life's ills.

Many individuals are getting by on very little, but their lives are rich and full of joy nevertheless... unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are making a lot of money but are really unhappy.

A comfortable home, a good car, amazing shoes, and a little financial stability are all attainable goals, but money can't mend a broken heart, alleviate loneliness, or provide the lasting "happiness" that matters most in life. You can't buy happiness. Never expect happiness from the "stuff" you can purchase; that will never happen.

"The company is in a crucial state right now, Dad. It's been a long time since you visited it. You need to recover fast."

Cassie's eyes were fixed on her father as she prepared all his medicines. Ever since they moved out and admitted her father to the hospital where she works, she decided to be his doctor.

She will do everything to make her father heal fast.

Keagan tried to talk but only gave a faint 'hmm'. He can talk, unlike when he was at the mansion. But he shouldn't force himself.

"Don't rush it. Your therapist will come here before bedtime. You should cooperate to heal faster."

Keagan nodded his head and smiled at her.

No matter how cruel Keagan was before his illness fell, Cassie still admires him and never lets herself hate him.

She loves her father more than he knows. She always wants to make him happy and proud, but time sometimes, won't cooperate.

"I don't know what to do with Myla and my sister. Should I put them in jail because of what they did to you?" She walked toward Keagan's bed and sat on the side. "I have all the evidence to prove them as murderers," she added.

"Lawyer…" Keagan soft voice lingered in Cassie's ears.

She's not used to seeing Keagan in his vulnerable state. He used to be a cruel monster.

"Do you want me to meet your lawyer?"

Keagan nodded. "T-The files…"

Cassie frowned. "What about them?"

"G-Get it… Vault…"

"Is it important? Do those files hold important information? Do you want me to get them for you?"

Keagan nodded.

"Where?"

"Office in… in the mansion. Vault," he said, almost whispering.

"Okay. I will check it after my clinic hours. If you need something, you can call the nurse," she said, and after that, she left the room.

Cassie needs to distract herself to avoid any thoughts about Theo. She admits, despite her best efforts and meticulous preparation, there are occasions when her ideas simply do not materialize... that's perfectly ok.

We go into life with these grand plans and expectations, picturing our "perfect" existence, but sadly, that's not always how it turns out. Life is full of setbacks, and sometimes, we simply decide to change our minds in the middle of a project. It may take a few tries before we discover the correct path, or we may need to make some mistakes along the way.

After her clinic hours, she dropped by their mansion, and she was surprised when she didn't see Myla and her sister.

She asked the maid when she entered the mansion, but Myla never informed them.

"When did they leave the house?"

"About a week ago, Ma'am," the maid replied, making Cassie frown.

"And they didn't even inform you?"

The maid nodded her head and apologized. After that, Cassie walked toward the stairs, followed by a short-haired girl who was unfamiliar to her.

"Are you new here?" she asked as they walked toward the study area.

"Y-Yes, Ma'am."

"For how long?"

"Two weeks ago, Ma'am. I am Nana Berta's granddaughter."

Cassie stopped and turned to face the newbie. "What's your name?" she asked and flashed a smile.

Nana Berta is the oldest maid they have, and she's been working with the Morgans since Cassie was born.

"What's your name? Where's Nana?"

"I'm Lisa, Ma'am. Nana retired before I entered—"

"What? Retired? Does my father know about this?" Cassie interrupted.

Lisa shook and bowed her head. "It's Madame Morgan."

Cassie clenched her fist. That witch! "Tell Nana Berta to come back. It's my order. And tell the butler that from now on, all of you will only take orders from me and my father."

Lisa nodded her head. "Yes, Ma'am."

Cassie sighed and continued to walk toward the study room. "Wait for me here," she said to Lisa as she opened the door and strode inside.

She moved toward the vault under her father's table and checked for it. Her father gave her the number lock combination earlier, and she was baffled that it was her birthdate.

She somehow felt happier amidst the situation they'd been through.

She pulled the vault door when she successfully entered the password, and her eyes widened when she saw nothing inside.

Cassie couldn't help but curse inside her head when she saw the empty vault.

'Damn those witches!'

Cassie dialed the telephone number at the hospital, and when the nurse picked it up, she asked to pass it to her father.

"Dad, the files are gone."

"Lawyer…" her father uttered.

"I will contact him and get back to you afterward. Bye," she said and ended the call.

Cassie stepped out of the room, furious. "Don't ever let those witches enter the Morgans premises again. If they will cause a ruckus, call me immediately," she told Lisa as they climbed down.

Mixed emotions linger inside Cassie's chest. She knew from the start that those two would only cause problems for them.

If Myla loves her father, she will not attempt to kill him.

Keagan Morgan worked his ass off to help them and even gave everything they needed, and they will kill him in return?

"Dad, how important those files are? Don't you have any copy?" Cassie asked as soon as she entered her father's room.

"I have a copy. The lawyer has it," Keagan said softly.

"And this lawyer can be trusted, right?" Cassie can't be at ease. She can't trust anybody that easily.

Keagan nodded.

"I don't want all the fruit of your hard work to be in vain. Morgan Corporation is huge, and it will only belong to us." She somehow regretted rebelling. If only she knew what would happen after two years.
