Uzuna blinked at the spot several times, then she rubbed her eyes. No, this must be a nightmare. She pinched herself on the cheek, hoping she would wake up without feeling any pain. She felt it—the adrenaline rushing through her blood, quickening her pulse.

It was no dream. What she had just seen was no dream, but the sight of Jelani, her beloved, turning into an unrecognizable monster and vanishing right in front of her.

"Someone has to tell her what is going on," she muttered, flinging the sheet off of her.

Her leg touched the ground, and she felt the cold crawling through her bones, but the cold didn't bother her. After a second, she didn't even feel it; it was what she had seen that was causing every fiber of her body to vibrate.
