Chapter 140

The sky became the territory of bats, and thousands of them covered the clouds like a moving black screen.

These bats were not only Cain but all the vampires still alive in this part of the city, who joined Cain's body in the air while they were under control.

"We won't be able to stop this."

Zatanna said.

They had to stop flying because Cain's red energy got stronger. They were now on a roof and looking up.

The black screen then moved and fell towards them like a waterfall.

The bats were moving very slowly and in an odd way because there were so many of them.

A few seconds later, a hand made of gathered bats moved closer to the ground.

Its fingers were wide open, and the hand was over forty meters long and wide.

It was surrounded by red energy.

The world was dark and tinged with red, and the scene was scary and hopeless.

"Let's attack together!"

Starfire shouted to encourage them, but her raised hands glowed with a very faint green light.

She was so drained that her starbolts couldn't even be released anymore.

"I got this!"

A voice shouted from afar.

The Green Lantern flew in like a comet and stopped right below the giant hand.

He pointed his ring upward and fired his transparent green energy beam.

The beam in the air began to expand while forming the same shape as Cain's hand, with the same size, and the two collided in the air.

"BOOOOM!"

The sound of the collision sounded like a giant clapping.

The three women looking down were shocked when the two huge hands exploded in the air.

However, the bats were not killed like Green Lantern's construct was and they only changed their form.

Cain descended all of those groups of bats to the ground without giving them any shape. They fell like rain from the sky.

Zatanna raised her wand to give her all to stop her enemy at great cost.

Raven did the same while lowering her head and revealing her true form, which changed the natural white color of her body.

Of course, no one noticed this because everyone was looking at Cain.

Starfire didn't have much energy left, but that didn't discourage her. She didn't lose her courage, since she could still fly.

The swarm descended and destroyed the upper floors of the tallest buildings first while descending slowly, which caused pure destruction.

"It ends now!"

...

Finally, they returned to Earth while retracing their steps and exiting through the portal that Madame Xanadu left on the street.

It was a quiet journey, except when they saw a woman in the distance toward the end.

Dio's better vision didn't pick up on many details because she was so far away, but he could see she was waving and jumping with joy.

It was only Dio who could see clearly, and the person was just a tiny dot in his field of vision.

So, Dio shared the scene with the others and found it quite amusing.

Then Xanadu told him it was probably Death.

"The thing is looking grim."

Dio looked at the sky and agreed with Boston; things were indeed looking grim.

Dio didn't see any heroes nearby; they were surely occupied.

"I could feel him,"

Andrew Bennett said with only wearing blue jeans on their side.

In fact, Cain should have been sealed again when Andrew came back to this reality at this point.

Andrew had to push Cain through the door by himself now that they had cheated to bring Andrew back. That's what Xanadu said.

According to her, Andrew was now not inferior in strength to Cain.

"Well, this city sure is the worst."

"Constantine, only those from Gotham can speak ill of Gotham, so shut up!"

Dio shouted at him.

It seemed like a long time had passed, so they spent a lot of "time" together, and Dio still didn't like Constantine.

In fact, it actually got worse.

"I have to go."

Andrew said this and looked at a wave of bats destroying Gotham.

"Go then, Andrew Bennett, fulfill your destiny."

Madame Xanadu encouraged him.

Wings grew on his back—four bat wings—and Andrew flew north.

"Kírix and Boston, let's follow him to see if everything goes well, Constantine."

Madame Xanadu looked directly at him.

"Don't do anything, absolutely nothing."

Madame Xanadu warned him.

Madame Xanadu took a card from her dress and threw it on the ground.

The card grew while reaching two meters in height and one and a half in width.

"Get on, let's go."

Madame Xanadu shouted at Dio and jumped onto the card.

Dio did the same, and the card began to fly in the direction Andrew had gone, with Boston by their side.

"It ends now!"

Andrew roared in the air and looked at the bats that didn't stop.

Dio could see Raven, Starfire, Zatanna, and Green Lantern below. He was relieved to see everyone well here.

Andrew raised his hand high and commanded, "From Dust to Dust!"

It seemed like magic, all the bats turned into dust and rained on the city.

In the middle of all this dust, Cain appeared in his monstrous form surrounded by his red energy, and flew with his wings toward Andrew.

Andrew pointed at him when Cain got too close.

"BOOM!"

It was an explosion of energy, the same type Cain had used before, but the difference was that he was bright sky-blue, while Andrew's was shining azure.

Cain fell to the ground with his entire body burned.

"THUD!"

Andrew slowly approached him on the road. Then Cain reverted to his human form and looked at Andrew with pure hatred.

"You, what did they do to you in the afterlife!?"

Cain asked with confusion and anger.

"I am your opposite, so I returned everything you stole."

Andrew explained.

It's true.

Dio felt the magic in the air return to normal.

"It doesn't matter; your great powers are finite, and I am immortal. You cannot kill me!"

Cain shouted.

"I cannot kill you, but I can send you back to where you belong!"

Andrew extended his arm, and some of the still falling dust transformed into a sword in his hand.

He flapped his wings while appearing on the ground behind Cain and swiftly decapitated him.

There were no more words. Cain's body turned into dust.

"And everything returns to its proper place."

Madame Xanadu said.

So Cain was gone and left behind a mess of biblical proportions.

The team gathered as soon as the fight was over.

Dio was immensely relieved to know that everyone was okay, but the state of their clothes made him laugh, and they also chuckled at the hole in the side of his armor.

The meeting didn't last long.

Batman began shouting his orders and directed them to search for and help the wounded.

That's when Dio met Flash; the guy was cool and so fast that he couldn't even see him running.

Andrew Bennett didn't stay to receive the applause of victory. He said his kind had done enough, and his body turned into mist as he flew away.

They also didn't hear from John, but since they didn't find his body, the old man must be okay.

Madame Xanadu didn't stay to help either.

After bidding farewell to Zatanna, she came to Dio and kissed him on the cheek. Kid Flash watched everything and had his mouth wide open.

Before leaving, she told me how Dio could reach her if needed.

Dio still had to ask Zatanna why Madame Xanadu was so kind to him, but that could wait.

Boston didn't stay either.

There wasn't much he could do here.

Boston also gave him a way to get in touch with him before he left.

The good thing about all this chaos was that Dio ended up making a new friend.

The last problem was Mary; they couldn't find her.

Dio was sure that the damn Mary was still alive and well and ready to cause trouble in the future.

So, Dio was sitting on the rubble of what was left of a house or shop.

"What do you want, Constantine?"

Dio asked Constantine who was standing on the road in front of him.

"I just wanted to say that my part of the deal is officially done. I'm off, going to take a nice bath, and maybe get a prostitute."

Constantine said it shamelessly.

"Your words are always charming."

Constantine waved, turned around, and walked down the road.

Dio knew very well why he came here; it was a warning. Constantine was reminding him that he'll collect on his part of the deal in the future.

Dio always tried to keep his word, even without a magical contract binding it.

Therefore, Dio made a promise at the end of the battle that he would keep no matter what.

Dio used the shadows to appear behind Constantine and grab his shoulder.

"What?"

Dio turned him to face him and caught him off guard.

"BOOOM!"

Dio landed a punch with all his strength on his face, which made him spin in the air and crash into a car on the other side of the street.

Constantine was alive; Dio saw a magical protection surrounding him, but he definitely broke some bones.

"Now, I need a vacation."

Dio said and smiled happily. He never enjoyed throwing a punch so much.

In one of the alleys, a little while after Cain's death, Mary was crawling on the ground in her naked form while trying to move away from the chaos.

She could walk now that her legs are back together, but they haven't healed enough yet.

"Mary."

A voice sounded that she recognized all too well.

Mary pushed to turn her body and looked at Andrew Bennett standing in the alley.

"You're alive; that's certainly a new trick."

Mary laughed.

Andrew crouched down and helped her to the alley wall, where she sat supported up.

"So, did the good guys win?"

Mary asked.

"Yes."

Andrew replied.

"Great, I didn't want to live in a realm without humans or without being queen; that would be too boring."

"You're dying, Mary."

Andrew informed her.

"Even a vampire's cure has its limits, but I just need one thing before I go."

Mary requested and looked at him with tear-filled eyes.

Andrew couldn't resist and gently touched Mary's face.

"What do you need?"

Andrew asked.

"Your blood!"

Mary shouted in response.

Mary gathers all her strength for an attack to aim for his neck.

"BAANG!"

A bullet pierced through Mary's head from the side.

At the end of the alley, John was holding an old rifle, which he lowered when he saw Mary's body slowly turning into dust on the ground.

"It shouldn't have been you."

John said with a cold expression.

Andrew stood for a moment and stared at the dust on the ground.

"Thank you; I really didn't think I could do it."

Andrew expressed his gratitude.

The reason he came here was precisely to deal with Mary.

He was almost about to do it during her attack just now, a little before John ended it all for him.

"Come on, Andrew, let's go have a drink."

"Yeah, let's."

Andrew agreed.

He ran his hand over what was left of Mary before getting up.

The dust gathers and transforms into a beautiful white urn, which Andrew took before leaving.
