White Rabbit (Part 1)

The place where the original owner worked was a medium-sized supermarket that had both morning and evening shifts. The original owner usually handled the evening shift due to her good looks, which endeared her to the female boss of the supermarket. Whenever the original owner needed time off, it was always granted without hesitation. However, the original owner was diligent and hadn't actually taken many days off.

Amalia entered the supermarket and was met with a disdainful look from a man. He was the manager of the supermarket, responsible for overseeing various matters, including the staff, all except one person – the original owner.

Due to the owner's favoritism towards the original owner, her job was always the easiest with shorter working hours, yet she received the highest salary. It wasn't surprising that others were envious.

"Isn't this Amalia? Haven't seen you for a few days. You don't even need to take leave, why bother coming to work," the male manager said with a sarcastic tone. People around them were used to this, as good-looking individuals tended to be met with more patience and tolerance. Moreover, Amalia had been diligent in their work despite the boss's favoritism, which made them well-liked by other staff members.

A colleague approached Amalia and whispered, "Don't mind it, the manager was just scolded by the boss recently. He's not in a good mood, and you're not the first one he's targeted."

Amalia turned to look at the boy who was relaying the message. He was responsible for the cash register and his name was Nil Morata. For some reason, his face turned red when Amalia looked at her.

"I'm going to start my shift," Nil said and hurriedly left, his face still flushed.

Amalia was puzzled. She were already on shift, and she wanted to ask where the boss was since she were actually here to resign.

"Hey, I'm talking to you," the male manager, unable to find a point of mockery, grew more irritated and approached Amalia.

"Where's the boss?" Amalia asked.

The male manager paused and sneered, "What, want to complain to the boss? Don't think your good looks can fool the boss. People like you..."

Amalia turned to ask other colleagues and an experienced one told them that the boss was currently away dealing with supermarket matters and might not be back until tomorrow. The matter of resignation had to be put on hold for now. Looking around at the busy crowd, the supermarket was running a special promotion, and the customer flow was several times higher than usual. As a grown woman, Amalia couldn't just stand there doing nothing, so she rolled up her sleeves and got to work.

The male manager, unable to find a target for his mockery, decided to set the matter aside for now, given the busyness of the supermarket.
