Other Side

Over the next few days, Alice took on the responsibility of dropping off and picking up Isabella from school. Meanwhile, Charlotte was fully immersed in the research project and making great progress, finalizing details with their suppliers and working diligently to ensure its success.

In another part of the city, David had returned home and noticed a significant change in his son. Ms. Lin, Arthur's caretaker, shared daily reports of his activities, mentioning how Arthur had become more talkative and enthusiastic lately. David was glad to hear that his son was finally making friends his own age, as Arthur had been reserved and unsocial in the past.

"She said that she will bring her laptop tomorrow so we can start some projects!" Arthur said with bright eyes, clearly excited about his newfound friend.

David found it intriguing that Arthur's new friend seemed to be knowledgeable about technology. He assumed that the child's parents might work in the same industry or have a tech-related background.

"David, how are you?" The chatter in the room quieted down as Olivia entered. She carried a basket with some food inside, trying to appear friendly and caring.

"How are you, Art?" Olivia greeted when she noticed Arthur in the room.

Arthur simply nodded in response and then excused himself, quickly heading to his room.

Seeing his son losing his enthusiasm, David felt a pang of concern. He controlled his expression, trying not to let his emotions show, and turned his attention back to Olivia. "Why are you here?" His tone was cold and distant.

"I just wanted to stop by," Olivia said, her voice faltering slightly at the unexpected chilly reception. "David, about us..."

David interrupted her, "I don't want to discuss this right now, Olivia."

With a heavy sigh, Olivia set the basket of food on the table. "Fine, David. But I hope you realize what you're doing. I've sacrificed years waiting for you to get over your ex-wife."

David's face tightened at Olivia's words, knowing that she had been harboring these feelings for a while. He felt guilty for not fully reciprocating Olivia's feelings, but he couldn't give the same feeling he had once with his ex-wife, though now his feelings is that of resentment he did love her once upon a time.

Olivia continued, her frustration evident. "I'm tired of competing with a memory, David. You know that I will wait for you but you know she won't come back, she even abandoned her son."

David's heart ached at the mention of Charlotte abandoning their child. He knew he needed to sort out his feelings and make a decision, not only for his sake but also for Arthur.

"Now is not the time Olivia," David said with a heavy sigh.

Olivia nodded, her eyes showing a mix of frustration and sadness. "Alright. I'll give you the space you need. Just know that I'll be here when you're ready to talk."

With that, Olivia left, leaving David alone with his thoughts and conflicting emotions.
