The class leader, with a red face from anger, couldn't stand the surrounding whispers any longer. Their Miss Xaviera would never be jealous of Winifred Drew! She didn't even want to participate in the competition initially - only for the sake of Class 3's honor did she join in the end.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. The class leader abruptly stood up and retorted, "Mr. Connell, I think this matter requires further investigation. Miss Evans initially didn't want to participate in the competition; she only agreed to join after our persuasion. She has no reason to cheat!"

Xaviera reached out and pulled his hand. "Don't say anything."

She was not in the least bit flustered, her voice calm: "No matter what you say now, they won't believe it. Only evidences can prove everything."

If they were determined that she had cheated, no amount of explaining would be of any use. It would only be seen as a cover-up attempt and would cause even more contempt from the crowd.
