Retreating rebel forces from the north wall brought the news of the fall of Gene Miller and the outcome of the battle, slapping Sigmund and the rest of the rebel leadership hard in their faces. Although Gene had a bad reputation among the Nexian youth for his violent past, none of the noblemen believed that it would cause the negotiations to break down. They were rather optimistic that the kid would bring them the results that they sought, yet the opposite had happened.

The kid couldn't be blamed as another unforeseen factor came into play – the Nexian expeditionary forces had already reached the Northern wall, rescuing the town's guard and bolstering the fortification's defense. It was just right under their noses as they had recently repelled an attempt from the expeditionary forces to reenter the walls, south, but none had predicted that the enemies would be able to make it to the northern wall so quickly.
