First night

Throughout the entire day, whether it was during the registration process, the freshman orientation, or when we went to check our assigned dormitories, my entire focus was fixed on that one girl. She was simply too outstanding. Even in a large crowd, I could spot her from a mile away and couldn't resist secretly staring at her. I wasn't quite sure what I was feeling, but I figured it was the taste of love. At the moment, however, I was still in the stage of secretly admiring her. During our first class as freshmen, the teacher took attendance, and I paid special attention to the girl's name. I was delighted to find out that her name was Wang Qinyuan. While this was a fairly common name, I personally thought it sounded incredibly beautiful, like a heavenly melody. Our homeroom teacher was an old man who, after taking attendance, chatted with us about school policies and also introduced some of the top students in our grade.

As it turned out, after the teacher's introduction, I learned that not only was Wang Qinyuan beautiful, but she was also academically exceptional. She had graduated from elementary school with straight A's, scoring 100% in both Chinese and math. This was simply amazing, and I couldn't help but fall even more in love with her. Of course, I wasn't the only one who had a crush on her. The other boys in the class were also paying attention to her, especially my desk mate Zhang Kai. He and Wang Qinyuan had been classmates before and were both from Guanshen. According to him, Wang Qinyuan's parents were both teachers at Guanshen Elementary School, so she had received strict education from a young age and always excelled in both character and learning. It was truly fortunate for us to be classmates with such an impressive person. "Don't you dare try to pursue her, got it? She's my girl. I've been chasing her for over two years now, and she's almost agreed to be mine," Zhang Kai warned me at the end. However, I ignored him.

In the first class, the old head teacher went on and on, and then began to dictate the selection of the class monitor, study committee member, and the youth league branch secretary in a somewhat dictatorial manner.

To my surprise, Zhang Kai was selected as the class monitor. I was shocked because he seemed unremarkable and his grades were not particularly good. Later, I heard that the head teacher was his uncle, and then I suddenly understood why.

Zhang Kai being selected as the class monitor was an exception. The other positions were mostly selected based on fair criteria. Wang Qinyuan was selected as the youth league branch secretary due to her outstanding grades and good image. The selection of study committee members was more complicated, and everyone volunteered themselves. I also raised my hand and was selected as the physics study committee member. Damn it, I only wanted to participate, teacher, don't take it seriously. Hey, listen to me, I'm really not suitable for this position...

"Enough, Liu Yihen, don't decline anymore. This matter is settled. You will be the physics study committee member. You need to study hard from now on. If your grades are not good, I will remove you!" The old man once again acted in a dictatorial manner and pushed me into the spotlight.

It is necessary to introduce the old man here. His name is Zhang Shiyuan, in his fifties, and a substitute teacher. He is short in stature and has a relatively round head, giving people a funny impression at first glance. He looks a bit like Jack Ma, but after getting to know him, I realized that this old man has a loud voice and a powerful presence, just like a dynamite barrel. Therefore, although he doesn't look very fierce, most of the students in the class are afraid of him.

He teaches Chinese, and his level is said to be very high. It seems that he even won the title of "Xiucai" when he was young. Therefore, he is slightly dissatisfied with some things about our party deep down. Therefore, his class is quite interesting. You see, for young people, there is probably nothing more attractive and interesting than cursing the country for no reason.

I need to make a disclaimer here: I love my country and the Party, but it's a process. It's inevitable for young people to have radical thoughts, and they're easily influenced. This is not the main topic, so I won't go into details. If you want to learn more about similar content, turn left when you go out and read "Those Years, the Rabbit, and These Things."

Now, let's continue with what happened on the first day of school. After the class teacher assigned everyone's roles, she started to arrange for us to get our textbooks and workbooks. By the time we finished, it was already two or three in the afternoon, close to the end of the school day.

We didn't have lunch because the school canteen wasn't open yet. At noon, we simply ate some pancakes and drank some plastic-bottled drinks from a small shop. Zhang Kai and Wang Qinyuan rode their bikes together, laughing and joking. They went home for lunch, and now I understand why houses in the school district are so expensive.

Since it was the first day of school, we finished at four in the afternoon to allow the students who lived on campus to go home and get their things. I felt a bit awkward because I already had everything with me and didn't need to go back. So, I just went to the dormitory to tidy up my bed and decided to go out and buy some daily necessities since it was still early.

I remember back then my parents gave me twenty yuan per week for my living expenses. Don't underestimate this amount of money, it was quite valuable at that time and could buy a lot of things. I was always a frugal kid. As I walked out of the school, I observed my surroundings and realized that there was a hill to the east of the school, covered with green trees. The scene was a bit gloomy, but I felt relieved when I scanned the area with my third eye and found that there wasn't much negative energy. After that, I went to the street to buy some toiletries and food, and then returned to the dormitory to have dinner and go to bed. Since it was the first night, there were few people in the dormitory, and the atmosphere was quiet. But I didn't feel lonely because Xiao Huzi and Yun Qingyue were with me. So, I spent the evening alone in the dormitory, chatting and laughing with them, enjoying myself.

After eating and washing up, it was dark and I lay down to sleep. However, in the middle of the night, I suddenly felt a wave of cold Yin energy engulfing my body, waking me up abruptly. When I opened my eyes, I realized I was standing in the flower bed outside the dormitory.

The sky was lit by a pale moon, and the mist was hovering over the flower bed. In the center, a cedar tree was swaying in the breeze, entangled with a dark mass that was making a creaking sound. As I approached to take a closer look, I couldn't help but recoil in shock, my scalp tingling. The dark mass turned out to be a spotted worm as thick as a bowl, spitting out a long tongue at me, seemingly wanting to swallow me whole.
