The cavalry

The next moment, the Starspawn dashed back. The Flame Snake swooshed through the air where his head was not a second ago.

Cael lost his balance and fell to the ground, only to spring back again. This time, when he rose on his feet, he was surrounded by five spectral spearmen—just like Ginevra.

'Those slow things… They are still under the order to protect us. I hope they will do their job well and give us some more time!' Cael thought. Then he raised his eyes at the Starspawn.

For a moment, the creature glanced between Cael and Ginevra, as if reassessing the situation—or picking a target. Cael used the momentary breather to consider his options.

The Starspawn was so quick that he could attack them before they finished reading a single spell. But Ginevra was proficient enough with her Flame and Frost Arrows to not need words to use them. She still needed some time.

This meant Cael had to focus and give it to her. He opened his mouth.
