CHAPTER 59

Tristan shifted on their bed before abruptly opening his eyes and turned to see Malia just waking up.

The both of them went downstairs and with every step they took, they could feel the air shifting with tension.

They finally came down and a look at the person there made them sigh in relief.

"Grandma, don't scare us like that." Tristan said with a sigh as he went forward and hugged Satomi.

Malia on the other hand was less than pleased with how their morning was ruined by Satomi's dramatic entrance. "Did you really have to do that? It's a Sunday for crying out loud." She whined and made her way to the kitchen to brew tea.

She wasn't a touchy feely kind of person, well the same with Tristan but she didn't go out of her way to hug anyone. Not even Allison, less her grandmother figure and Alpha.

"Still as crass as ever, aren't you little one? I see Tristan has been too accommodating of your… less than pleasing character." Satomi lightly said and sat on the dining chair and waited for the tea Malia was brewing.

Tristan only had a small embarrassed smile on his face which Satomi easily noticed, the sight of it warming her heart at the changes the boy was already undergoing.

Malia scoffed as she heard what Satomi said about her. "As if he could. Those are the reasons he loves me after all."

The focus of their banter could do nothing but just sip his tea in silence as the two of them exchanged backs and forth.

"So why are you here this early, grandma? Without any notice to boot." Tristan cut into their conversation as he brought back the reason for Satomi's unannounced visit into focus.

Satomi nodded at his words and placed her cup on top of the serviette before focusing her attention on the two of them, mostly Tristan whose changes she easily recognized.

"You've changed. Both of you. Tell me what happened." Her serious tone told them that she wouldn't entertain any lies, not that they could tell one and get away with it in her presence.

"Well for starters, we killed an Alpha." Malia instantly dropped the highlight of all their recent activities.

"…"

"…"

Tristan looked at her with a deadpan while Satomi looked at her with slight surprise which didn't go unnoticed by Tristan.

"You knew?"

Satomi sighed and shook her head slowly. "I knew you wouldn't have left the Alpha alone due to Tristan's tunneled vision when he smells blood but I never expected that you would have had a hand in Peter's death."

"You knew?" The both of them shouted in shock which prompted a laugh out of Satomi but she waved off their concerns.

"No, I didn't. At least not until yesterday." She brought her hands together and looked at the both of them but this time they could both feel her concern towards them and the silent reprimand she was holding off on.

Being the one most attuned to feeling emotions, Tristan's head fell low in regret as he realized just how much Satomi must have been worried for the both of them.

Seeing how they both reacted, Malia reached her hand towards Malia and drew her close before turning to Tristan and addressing him. "I tracked the bloodlust you all were emitting into the forest but by the time I got there only the remains of your fight were left imprinted on the empty scene. What clued me in were your scents and blood that was scattered around the whole place. By the time I finally managed to track the Alpha down amidst the trail of dead bodies he left, I found myself back in the Hale house with Derek in the middle of dead Hunters."

She looked at the both of them and gauged their reactions before continuing. "He killed Kate Argent, Gerard's daughter." Seeing how little they reacted, she let out a sigh, already aware that they knew of what had transpired and she was just glad that they decided to refrain from participating.

"So it was Derek who told you about Peter being the Alpha?" Tristan asked.

"Yes, he did." She simply said before picking up her cup and taking another drink from it after which she just continued staring at the content as she swirled the cup in her hand. "And you drank Peter's blood, didn't you Tristan?"

Tristan let out a tired sigh and slacked his shoulders in favor of reclining deeper into the chair. "I guess there's a reason you never allowed me to drink your blood, huh?"

Satomi looked at both of them and warmth bloomed in her heart. They were together the first time she met them years ago and they were still as close, more close even, than they were when she first knew them.

Each of their past was shrouded in secrets but she had long stopped caring about their origin. All that mattered to her was that they were her precious children.

"I had my doubts but it wasn't only for that sole reason."

She looked at the two of them and asked, "What do you know about Vampires?"

°°°°°°°

[Allison Argent POV]

All it took to turn her life for the worst was only a week. A short week where she not only survived the attack of an Alpha at the start and had to learn about the other side of the world, but also lost her aunt at the end of it in a vendetta feud that she had no idea of.

She had cried her eyes out to the point that she fainted after her father had told her of the news. The only thing her father had told her was that it was the Alpha that had done it.

The house that she had once thought of as her safe haven became a cage that restricted her movement to the point that she couldn't even grieved properly with the influx of Hunters that came and went every passing day.

It also didn't matter to her when her father had informed her that her grandfather was coming for the burial that was going to be held in a few weeks after the school formal.

That was the only saving grace she had. She was happy that she could still attend school without her parents fussing much about the Alpha being out there.

Everything seemed to have calmed down after that night, as if both her family and the Alpha had a tacit agreement that no other hunt should be held. Well her father did go out on many occasions but the result was always the same. No single animal attacks, or even the sighting of a wild one, was reported in Beacon Hills after the night Kate died.

"I'm leaving." Allison said in a low tone, not caring if anyone heard her and got in her car before driving to school.

It took her a few minutes to get to Beacon Hills High where she once again had to be subjected to the looks and stare of pity she got from a handful of the student populace.

She walked absent-mindedly through the halls, not answering to any of the calls of her name by her classmates.

She didn't know where she was going, only leaving her legs to tread through any familiar steps and bring her to a destination of solace.

-!!

Her deep murky thoughts were broken when she suddenly felt a strong grip on her arms and before she could react she was pulled into an empty classroom only to find a pair of arms tightly wrapped around her body.

Just by the scent she could already tell who it was – Malia.

This simple action of her best friend put the first genuine smile on her face ever since Kate died. As far as she could remember, Malia hated hugs or any expressive show of sentiment and now here she was being wrapped in one of the warmest hugs she's ever been subjected to.

She felt Malia move a little and the next second she felt another hand holding her and that was the moment everything came out.

She cried in their arms without stopping, complaining and cursing and pouring out all the grievances her heart couldn't fully pour out when she was at home.

Malia and Tristan only said one word, "We're sorry," and just stood there, silently comforting her until she cried all the remaining tears she had kept deep inside.

For whatever reasons they lied, at this moment none of that mattered. No Argents, no Hunters, no Alpha or betas or any secluded supernatural community – all that remained in this moment was a heartbroken girl being comforted in the arms of two people she dearly loved who were not her family. In fact they were very far from it.

"Thank you." She said in a tiny voice after she stopped crying but still held them close so as not to lose the abundance of warmth she was receiving, even Tristan's always cold body felt very warm at this moment.

"Don't worry, princess. Take all the time you want. Tristan and I are not going anywhere anytime soon unless you want us to." Malia said softly.

"Mhm, don't leave. I want to stay like this for a while." Allison said and snuggled deeper into their embrace.

"Take all the time you want." Her smile couldn't help but grow a tad bit bigger as she heard Tristan's words.
