Chapter 15

In their search, Jace abruptly halted his running when he heard someone yell. He turned to his colleagues, who appeared taken aback by his sudden stop. They stared at him, seemingly waiting for his next move. They hadn't heard the scream he had just heard. Jace considered the possibility that he might have imagined it, but he couldn't dismiss it so easily. If it was Itzy's scream he had heard, and he ignored it only for something terrible to happen to her, the weight of his conscience would consume him, and he would forever blame himself for the outcome.

"What's wrong, Jace?" Linus asked, concerned.

"Didn't any of you hear those screams?" Jace asked, scanning his surroundings.

Ryker shrugged. "I didn't hear anything. Why? Did you hear something?"

"Yeah," Jace replied, placing his hands on his hips.

"Do you have any idea where the scream came from?" Laszlo inquired.

Jace shook his head and said, "No, but I'm certain I heard someone scream."
