Cezi and Cedric immediately came to help, they held Lou down, while Iris tried to get Rei's spirit out of his body.

This was why, Rei was called as spirit and why had this ritual where he needed sacrifice, just like Decratic, he didn't have real body. The only thing that was left of them after five centuries was only their spirit.
