Favorite's Advancement

Venus felt that everyone was waiting her performance, the king didn't show any expression even when his favorite performed. She smirked, and started her grand entrance with an acrobatic flip. People gushed, the king bolted from his chair when he saw her made several moves like a gymnast.

Men stared at her with interest especially on her flawless legs. The king growled loudly, people vowed while the headmistress forcibly removed her from her spot. The king glared at her and all she could do was groan. They didn't like her performance, she concluded.

They brought her to the tower, Lilet was waiting for her there. The headmistress explained that the tower will be her place to live from now on. It was twice huge than her previous suite. "The king will summon you, Your Highness" she bowed and left.

"Tell me about this new suite," she asked Lilet. "Well, according to my visionary expanse when I checked it, this is not a suite this is one of the towers for the king's primary wives. It has ten bedrooms, a main dining hall, receiving room, hobby room, one main bath house, one private bath house and huge closet full of your gowns, shoes and jewelries sent by your father."

Venus sighed as if she was uninterested. When she first came here, she was amazed of the vast wealth of her family and this unadulterated world but now it bores her. "The king must be too generous to give this kind of residence," she commented dryly. "Not as generous as the favorite. He gave the east tower to her, near his palace. The tower has the best amenities."

"Oh," she simply said, as if she didn't care, which she really is. She didn't mind if the king was the most handsome creature she'd ever seen, she wasn't shallow. She believes that having a strong personality was her optimum standard when selecting a boyfriend before. For now, her impression and the word best describes the king was "boring."

"And about the staff, you have ten workers in the kitchen, including the chef, twenty housemaids, and thirty security personnel from the king," Lilet continued. "Gather them now, I want to talk to them as you assess them," she ordered.

"I already assessed them and I will tell you who's the spy and who works for the wicked witch and who's for the king. A hundred staffs were gathered in front of her. All were anxious, some were shaking even the guards were nervous. She was not surprised by their reaction, the northerners like her were known for their savage ways. Many tales described them as people who eats their enemies and she will use it to her advantage.

She divided the staff into two, those who paid to spy on her and those who was there for simply making a living. She fired those loyalty not to her and retained only half of them. Well, she can send her robot cleaners directly from her spacecraft if she needed them.

She enjoys the food here, especially the meat, which is juicy and fresh. "I am not harsh, but I expect loyalty from all of you. We, the northerners, are easy to please and generous to the men and women who work for us, but if you betray us, we will devour you in raw form. If one of you tries to harm us by giving us food poisoning or something similar. I assure you that I will be aware of it. I have a device that can detect poisonous substances in food, and the punishment will be severe. Lilet will supervise you, and any orders she gives you should be treated as if they came from me."

"She enjoys steak and prefers it rare," Lilet said to the chef. Lilet explained to the man, who frowned because he didn't understand what she has said that she was referring to the meat how she likes it cooked.

Her father arrived, and she expected him to be upset because she had embarrassed him, but instead he was pleased. "Are you not embarrassed by what I did in the great hall? " she inquired.

"Of course not my daughter, you were fantastic there. Your performance was outstanding, and everyone was impressed."

"However, I enraged the king. He was upset with my performance," she said dryly.

"He was upset not because he didn't like your performance, but for other reasons. I can assure you that I've known him since he was a baby. I heard you fired half your servants," he said.

"Yes, some of them are spies from our enemy in the south and from the king. Can you stay a little longer?" she requested. "I can't, the border and our castle require me," he explained. "I'll miss you, father," she said, almost crying.

"Now, now... you're a wonderful daughter to me. You brought me back to life, my daughter. I want you to experience life here as well. The north is harsh and unsuitable for you." he was referring to the harsh weather conditions, and frequent attack of enemies.

"My daughter, you are creating your own destiny here. Fate brought you to me because you were intended to be my daughter. Something dark is coming to this land, and it is your destiny to save us all, including the king. I have faith in your judgment, my daughter," he said.

Venus wrapped her arms around her father. He is not her biological father, but he is her father in every sense other than blood. She shook her head to erase the despicable memories from her past.

The headmaster cut them off because the king had summoned his father. She expected the king not to summon her because he was spending the night with his favorite, but she was still disappointed. She is still not ready for intimacy with a man. So, perhaps she'll enjoy her stay here.

The king never visited or summoned Venus. Their first and their last encounter was during the wedding ceremony, and she was enjoying her freedom and spending her time looking for the silver book.
