48: Alone at Last
Anyra
I stand on the balcony attached to the large room situated on the compound's northern side. The balcony overlooks a small pond surrounded by trees and low hills. The sun barely glimmers over the horizon, casting the land in a pink haze.
The breeze picks up, prickling my skin and sending my hair flying behind me.
Logan walks up and gathers my hair in his hands. He takes a long whiff of it, inhaling the smell deeply.
Its freshly washed aroma floats in the breeze, and I smile.
We have both finally gotten the baths we so badly needed, Logan more so than I. He hadn’t bathed the entire time he was my father’s captive. He was a bit more than rank by the time he got in the tub.
My problem had been the blood. I was covered in it, most of it my father’s, some of it mine. I was relieved to get the muck off me, to feel the blissful release of clean skin.
Somehow, the bath felt like more than just cleaning my body, but my spirit too.
